Justin and Johanne were amazing. Took great care of us and answered all of our questions. I asked for palomino sauce and they were able to make it happen. Food was amazing and would absolutely eat here again. I am very cautious about eating at Italian restaurants being Italian myself. Only issues is the artwork is pretty got awful; not cohesive at all and very odd music for a "fancier" restaurant. I would've expected Italian opera or something similar. If they got rid of the monopoly artwork and put tracia Italian music on its a 20/10! read more

First time in Toronto & a friend recommended Grappa. We were all beyond impressed with the service and the food. The appetizers were big enough to share and get full and the pasta was the cherry on top. One of my favorite things about Grappa is the amazing art by Amer $M all over the dining room! For the first time in 2 years, having been vaccinated, my friend and I went to Grappa a favourite of many years. We were very surprised that we were not asked our vaccine status, altho I had the relevant papers out to show. The waiter greeting us was not at all interested in our vaccine status and guided us to the table, Since essentially no other patrons were in the restaurant and since we were seated by a big open window we decided to stay. The food was excellent as always (albeit expensive-no surprise) and we left soon after 2 other small groups came in. We will not be returning as we felt that there was inadequate surveillance leaving us with a sense of vulnerability. The message is that the restaurant is not interested in protecting its patrons so we are not able to return with that knowledge. read more

Had dinner here tonight just cause we were in the area and didn't know where to eat since we live in DT Toronto. What a great surprise. Perfect Italian food. Super nice place. Homey but not casual, fancy but not fake.... Great wine list and simple Italian menu with the best u can think of. Had the caprese salad to start, the mozzarella was so fresh and tasty. Very disappointed! Let's start from walking in. Made reservations for 8pm, and was greeted by who may have been the manager. Another couple walks in about 5 mins AFTER us asking if tables were available, said "manager" walks up, kisses them on the cheek and seats them at a table as we remained standing there. Should have been my first clue. The appetizer funghi salad was outstanding ...and it went downhill from there. Ordered the veal scaloppini and mushroom risotto, when it arrived, the visual appeal on plating the food was worse than the taste. It looked like blobs of food (pic attached). Not something I would expect in a fine dining restaurant. Risotto was extremely undercooked (crunchy). The veal had gravy on it (terrible) when the menu said "jus", not sure they knew the difference. The vegetables undercooked. Bad all around. No one came to check in on the table, ask us how the meal was going, refill our water/drinks. Did I mention there is probably only about 25 tables In the whole place. Terrible service. When the server FINALLY came to the table (20'mins later and after we were done eating) we mentioned the rice issue and she offered "to have them cook the rice for longer". I said "I didn't think they could do that" (again, this is 20 mins after we finished eating), her response "it's risotto, yes you can". I kindly declined. SMH. No manager came over, didn't offer a dessert/coffee, didn't fix the bill. Nothing. The place has a sense of arrogance and was not worth it at all! Decor was nothing spectacular and the lights in the entrance kept dimming in/out, which must of been annoying for those seated in that area. Parking is a challenge. He was really good on the phone, but when he saw us he was extremely dismissive and distance. What could it be???? I will never go to that restaurant or support their business . I have been to both this and the original Grappa maybe a half dozen times over the years and found it usually decent and occasionally very good. This was by far our worst experience. The Resto was packed which could have (although it should not have) lead to the staff being a particularly unhappy group. It is hard for me to understand how someone in sales can't smile at least once or twice? But they succeeded. And what's up with not listening to the customer when they make an entree selection? While she sold me hard on the Osso Bucco and went along with it, not a peep was heard when she later cleared my half finished plate. Other soup and salad apps where disappointing as well. Hmm..others seem to been happy with the New Grappa but I have to say it is going to be difficult to return. read more

This restaurant is a great place to enjoy a delicious Italian meal and a night out dinning. One of the most extensive wine lists that I've ever seen with something for everyone. The food is creatively presented, fresh, and delicious. Be prepared to stay awhile, and relax. If the blueberry creme brule is on the dessert menu, don't pass it up. The owner is working the Front Of House, and is very engaged and involved with customers ensuring they are enjoying their experience. Pricey, but well worth it. read more

I've been to Grappa on a few occasions (haven't visited this new location yet), and had to share their greatness with yelp. Honestly Italian restaurants generally don't impress me- most pastas are just mediocre and it's always the same old schtick. However the first time I dined here, they won me over. The service is always great and charming, the atmosphere is cozy, and the food is always top notch. I always get their mushroom & truffle linguine and I've got to say I wish I could recreate this at home to save me some money. It's perfect, has the right amount of earthyness, just enough acidity, and the hearty mushrooms make it a filling meal. All in all, this is one of the only Italian restaurants I'll frequent and I cant recommend them enough. read more

This is my second time here and the food has always been great. We're here for my cousins first communion celebration. With that said the menu was already picked out. We had tomato with goat cheese, Caesar salad, grilled calamari, cold cuts and chicken with mash. All the dishes served were full of flavour. The right amount of dressing for the salad, calamari grilled well and not rubbery, mash was great. The chicken could've used more flavour but still wasn't bad. How about to receive life threats over a bad review! I went to Grappa one time in November 2022. The food was terrible. Very greasy and salty. I ordered gluten free meal, but got poisoned with gluten and was sick for the evening, night and the next morning. The restaurant was noisy with awful music played through multiple speakers which were hanging over every table. The decor was plain, just white walls with cartoon art. The wine list by the glass was limited to the cheapest choices priced like expensive wines $18 for a half glass. Seafood linguini wasn't fresh and my gluten free pasta was undercooked and broken into small pieces swimming in very heavy greasy sauce. I don't know if it was really gluten free, because I got sick either from the wheat or bad seafood, or perhaps both. My friend had the same experience and didn't even finish the meal. Both meals were terrible. I wrote many reviews in my life - good and bad, but never had been harassed by the restaurant stuff like Grappa . I received multiple insulting phone calls and text messages, some of them from Susan Wickware phone. I assume she is the manager or the waiter. She refused to tell. I even received a late night phone call from one of the employee with threats to my life because of my bad review. I spend over $200 for the terrible food that made me sick later and received THREATS to my LIFE from the staff of Grappa restaurants. They have no manager, no ethics, just bunch of criminals threatening and insulting their customers after taking the money. The worst dining experience. read more

I've been here a handful of times, mainly with my significant other's family or just the two of us. We are a mixed family of Italian, Chinese and British, just so you know regarding the racist experience that some may have had. The service has almost always been excellent, but this restaurant tends to hold large parties - when that happens, they are generally understaffed both FOH and BOH. I've visited during a large event, and my food had come out an hour later after being sat - we spoke to the manager about the lack of service as we know that is not the case when they aren't incredibly busy. He apologized and offered to waive our bill, but we insisted to pay for our appetizers. He packed our entrees and said it was on the house to have a midnight snack. It was nice of him and he did not have to do that. The food here is excellent, the price you pay, the portion and quality you get is your money's worth. read more

Four of us went to Grappa Ristorante near Queensway and Royal York Rd. on a weeknight. I had been hunting for a great higher-end Italian restaurant since the early 2000s, ever since i'd fallen in love with the seafood at Presto on Broadway in New York City's Upper West Side (not Pasta Presto), and since Presto had closed. I tried high-end Italian places in Los Angeles and Toronto, but Grappa is the first one that met my expectations. We ordered the Penne Puttanesca with tiger shrimp. The night's special was trout, and I ordered the Salmon Canadese, a pan-seared salmon with maple-mustard dijon cream. The penne was fine, but very unremarkable -- the tiger shrimp taste firm and fresh, but lack any sense of special flavour that might distinguish it from, say, homemade tiger-shrimp pasta. It was the fish dishes that made an impression. The people in my party had a taste of one another's dishes and I found the trout good but not great, but the two ladies who had actually ordered the trout said it was top-notch. The salmon that I had was, for me, the best entree. It is the first fish dish I've had at a restaurant that matched up to Presto's "Salmon Chef Style", with a complex sauce that complements the taste of the fish without overwhelming it, and the texture of the fish is impeccable -- it melts in your mouth, practically, but still retains its shape on your fork and on the plate. After the main dish we had desserts, a crème brûlée that was delicious. After 10-plus years of searching, this was the Italian fish dish that I had been looking for, so for that salmon dish alone, I would be returning to Grappa. Service was very nice, with a spunky young lady with an East Coast accent who was charming but not rehearsed. She recited the complicated specials of the night from memory and knew the menu very well, and her service was fast and efficient while making the atmosphere welcoming but not generic. She just seemed real and appealing. Extra points to the establishment for not sanding down their employees' personal quirks. I am very picky when it comes to service, in terms of speed, courtesy as well as authenticity, and this was one of the rare places that surpassed my expectations. If I had criticisms of the restaurant, it's that it's a bit dark inside, the dining areas feel like they are below street level and have a slight "basement" feel, and the outside of the restaurant makes it look not too much like, well, a restaurant. I would think that with a more open, brighter front, this restaurant would attract more customers, which it deserves. read more

We booked this restaurant for my daughter's confirmation. What a mistake!!!! Unfortunately, I should have expected what we received in the way of service the evening of that event. The owner (David) had avoided my repeated attempts to meet with him and book a party for 20+ people, imagine that! After several attempts to reach him by phone and in person failed, we finally met with the chef Ravi, who was very nice to deal with. We booked based on our meeting with him. A set menu and price was agreed upon. Upon our arrival our interaction with the owner David, was confrontational from the start. We asked for one of the tables to be rearranged to accommodate one of our guests who had a toddler for a baby seat, and he said that the tables were to remain as they were; he scowled something about he was turning other customers away that evening; his concern was with those who were turned away, not the 20+ clients who were present. Servants were downright crappy and rude; one servant was actually tossing cutlery down onto the tables and saying 'Bene, Bene' indiscriminately. To who and for what purpose, not sure; one of our guests was Vegan, and in the planning of the menu this was discussed, during the dinner the guest's dietary requirements were not acknowledged and we needed to make it a point with the servers that this was previously discussed and was to be accommodated. When dinner was over we asked for the cake to be cut; (cake was purchased from a Bakery paid for separately; cream puffs which were on the cake and should have been served were not; perhaps they were to bothersome to cut around and were either removed and discarded or kept to be eaten by their staff!! Coffee which was to be included did not arrive with the cake (common sense you would think). Once I noticed this and approached the waiter to have him inquire with the guests, he looked at me like as if I was asking for his right arm. The coffee for one of my guests showed up 10 minutes after they had left (the coffee was not worth waiting for anyway); my wife's coffee cup had coffee grounds around the bottom of it. Those of us who (were privileged-HA HA to have) received it were turned off and did not finish their coffees. To top it off the gratuity was miscalculated by $40.00 over the amount it should have been and to add further insult our request to speak to Master David at the end of the night was ignored; this is by far the worst experience. We had had previous celebrations at other restaurants in the area (Posticino, Prego and Luci) where we were made to feel like valuable clients; in future we will be sticking to these establishments. Avoid this place- and Danny, you seriously need to up your interpersonal skills because they stink; I don't know what keeps you afloat; there are many other good options out there -you are not the only game in town, so stop acting like it. If you don't, your non returning clients will let you know that. Remarkably bad!! Avoid it like the plague. read more

I'm sure the busy night played a part in our horrible dining experience but we had reservations and were sat in a decent amount of time along with a party of four and another party of two. We sat down and waited for water or bread or a hello but it didn't come until 30 minutes later. In that 30 minutes both parties we were sat with had their drinks delivered bread and their orders taken. The waiter finally approached and asked if we wanted drinks and as me and my girlfriend are it wine drinkers we opted for water and said we were ready to order. I had called the day reservations started for winterlic. and the owner took my information for the reservation and had told me evrything would be ready and set up right when the party arrived that night. well the party arrived and the reservation had been canceled because i was supposubly supposed to call a few days before to confirm. I had never been more upset seeing as it was my birthday and I was expecting 18 people to come along in after me and realize that we have no table. The owner was very rude in explaing to me the situation and how the reservation had been canceled with no authority from the actual person who made the reservation. needless to say my party was not ad upset as me and had tried to come to an agreement trying to still have a table sometime in the night. The manager decided to go above and beyond being disrespectful to the rest of my party and me (the birthday girl) until we decided to leave. You will have to make a reservation and probably confirm it everyday to make sure you still have a table and they dont cancel it. UNPROFESSIONAL AND VERY DISRESPECTFUL. Then my husband asked for a glass of light white wine, but was brought a red instead? My husband tried to get the waiter's attention about 3 times before he eventually gave up. After a few bites of my meal, I started to feel incredibly nauseous, so we had to leave. (They were kind enough however, to give us a creme brûlée on the house for the mistake). First time at Grappa - live in the area and I have to say, we had an amazing experience. I love pasta with seafood and this had to be one of the best. So fresh, light and delicious. The veal on the bone was incredible. Wine list is fantastic - Super Tuscan a great buy. Waiter and Manager made us feel very welcomed. It was my birthday! we could have the table by the coat cupboard and have people walk by us all night!!! No customer service! go down the street the the other place!!! We did had a really nice dinner and we had no reservation but we were treated with very good customer service. I have just returned from an evening at Grappa. Presentation is good, dishes mediocre The Cesar salad was good, gnocci same but sea bass dish had too much risotto Bread and dip was nothing. Warned it was spicy but it was tasteless.. We would have returned again thinking to try other menu choices except one of the servers killed that notion. We had 2 servers. One young man, efficient the other one named Elliott (or similar) nicknamed (Tony) was high on something, jerking body, disputing the menu special the other server had told us about, jumping from behind when we were in conversation causing us to jerk in our seats then speaking in a loud manner but disregarding what we requested to order.. I had a dessert ordered, my dinner partner wanted to order one as well, he was disinterested but it finally sunk in that dessert was wanted. The icing on the cake came with the bill. The machine wasn't working so you had to walk to the front of the restaurant. When processing the bill, the jerk watch the amount being filled in for the tip, THE TIP WAS NOT ONLY GENEROUS BUT MUCH MORE THAN REQUIRED.. This goof jumped back and yelled to the other server, she only left xxx dollars so there is not enough for me to split with you. Needless to say...we will not be returning and if we did...it would be requested that that server not come near the table. I gave the rating a 3 for the food,,,and ZERO FOR CUSTOMER SERVICE.
