Riley did a fabulous job on my daughter's hair! She's so happy with the cut and wants Riley to do her hair again. We made an appointment online and we were able to pick who we wanted and then paid a deposit. Once we arrived, checking in was easy and the ladies at the front were really nice. Before I could even sit down, Riley came around the corner and called Adelyn back. She really listened to Adelyn and tried to recreate what she wanted. Took my 5 & 6 year olds to get a haircut. One of my girls has super curly hair and the other is extremely straight. She did an amazing job with both! My girls curls are so alive and bouncy now. Since I have an upcoming work trip and my mother will be visiting, I figured now would be the best time to take care of a little self love. I was quite surprised Grassroots was able to get me in same day. Kylie was an absolute delight. Super friendly and perhaps the most methodical hair stylist I've ever encountered. She took her time with my hair and eyebrows, making sure both were to her liking and mine. The atmosphere was super chill. I want to start off by saying that the salon is really nice and upscale looking. I've had bad experiences in salons before, specifically with bleach/blonde coloring (seems like even professionals seem to struggle with getting the color right). This salon was recommended to my by a friend, so I decided to make an appointment w/ Amber. Sweet lady, and definitely makes you feel comfortable! My only issue with this salon is the OUTRAGEOUS price for what you get. I have short, shaggy hair and got a dimensional highlight that ended up costing around $121. I did give a tip which ended up coming to a total of $145. At other salons I've paid anywhere from $90 - $110 for FULL blonde color. So $121 for highlights seems a bit much. read more

Very professional salon--I was fortunate enough to have Jane working on my hair, and she salvaged my bleached-into-oblivion hair (that I did myself, yikes) into a much healthier look. I came in with roots longer than your last depressive episode and my hair just looked like garbage. I told Jane what I wanted and she went about it very methodically, with great attention to detail. She also recommended some great products to restore more life to my hair and remedy the damage. Will definitely be going back. My full service was pretty extensive: bleaching the roots, cutting off some dead ends, and dying it pink. I was there for nearly 5 hours, but I didn't mind because Jane was so careful and detail-oriented with my hair. Just know that if you're there for anything more than a cut that you should block out a decent stretch of time. However, I feel fairly confident in saying that you'll walk out with a great look. read more

I got my hair cut here for the first time yesterday by Laurynn and I'm SO HAPPY with what she did! My thick hair had grown out to one length, and without any awkward back-and-forth or showing multiple pictures to get what I wanted across, she clearly knew what it was that I was going for. She gave me beautiful face-framing and voluminous layers that matched exactly what I'd hoped for. She was also super fun to talk with during my cut and was extremely personable. It's unfortunate to say this because Tyler is a good friend of mine that I've gotten haircuts from for 4 years. I had a haircut appointment at 2pm and waited 54 minutes until I decided to leave. After leaving, I was contacted by the store owner and offered only 50% off for a future haircut. To me that is laughable after wasting an hour of my life, which is equivalent to a haircut service there. To avoid this problem the front desk ladies should have been more proactive communicating with me like they were with the other client waiting in the lobby, kind of interesting to me... Maybe a salon isn't the best place for a guy to get a haircut. My business will be taken elsewhere, and I hope no one experiences being a ghost like I did. I also hope this salon can take it as a lesson for future clients. read more

I called to schedule a color appointment with a specific stylist, but because she was busy the receptionist talked me into seeing another stylist. I'm not going to mention her name, but I was not impressed. She assured me left and right that she would lighten my hair no problem, despite my concerns. She looked at the picture I showed her and she even showed me one of her own. She hardly lightened my hair and when she asked what I thought, I told her "it's too dark, still". She didn't do anything to change it. She just said it looked good. I asked her if this was what she thought it would turn out to look like since it wasn't like the pic she showed me and she said yes. Yeah, right. I had also been reassured that she could blow dry my naturally curly hair well instead of me offering to do it myself at home, but then she went and messy-dried it and made it look weird. She said "oh, your hair does get frizzy!". Well, yeah...that's why I warned you. Also, she put a cape on me that smelled so gross. When I left, there were tiny man hairs all over my arms and shirt that I had to go home and change. Wash your capes every now and then! When I checked out I was in the process of asking about the military discount when she was running my card and she simply said "too late". Uh, no it's never too late to honor a discount your company offers. Overall, I'm frustrated with my experience and feel I wasted my 3 hours to get a poor result. Paid $150 for a hack job. I was emailing the manager whose response was "it could just be the way you parted it" and "we don't offer refunds because then everyone would be asking for them" which A no it's not the way I parted it because no matter where I part it, no haircut should be that choppy. And B if everyone is asking for refunds that says a lot more about your work than crappy people who want to cheat you out of money. I feel like I rightfully deserved a refund or at least a partial refund instead of coming in when there was nothing to do because I had already gotten my hair fixed somewhere else by the time they had gotten back to me. Also would just like to mention the hairstylist said "that's just too hard" when I asked to go from dark brown to a slightly less dark brown. read more

I've had my hair cut twice here by Jessica, who does a wonderful job listening to what I want and working wonders with my hair. She recently added some highlights and I love them. I've always loved Aveda salons, and I feel Grass Roots meets the level of quality I expect there. I also recently went for a mani/pedi with a friend and opted for the gel/shellac nails. The staff was very attentive and we really enjoyed our pampering. However, my nails started completely peeling off only a day or two later! I called Grass Roots to see what could be done, and they quickly scheduled a follow-up appointment with Melissa at no charge. Melissa worked a complete miracle and redid all of my nails. She paid special attention to anything that could have caused the problem, and I'm happy to say my manicure is still looking great almost a week later! read more

This review chould very easily have been a 1 star if not for the professionalism of management and one of their stylists. I'm not going to get into the bad parts of my experience, because they made it right. Let's just say, I was the girl bawling in the salon. I know. Classy. I will say that the first stylist did give me a decent platinum color, although she left the bleach on my head for an hour because she double booked. I asked for a manager or somebody else to talk to. The front desk manager came over and was really kind. She listened to my concerns and went to grab a master stylist. Sierra, the master stylist came over and I showed her the pictures of what I had wanted and after she finished up her current client, she got me in. With the hair she had left to work with, she gave me a beautiful cut. I really love it and love that they made a hard situation a little less traumatic. I'm positing the picture I'd sown the stylists and positing the cut/color I was given, to show how wonderful of a job she did. I've booked my next appointment with this salon. Communication is key. Please note: some stylists here double book. If you don't like this (I hate when stylists double book. I was at the salon for FOUR hours), you have to tell the front desk not to do this. read more

I love Aveda's Grass Root Salon at the Layton Hills Mall in Layton, UT. I try to see Sidnee as much as I can. My hair is naturally thick, and with a normal blunt cut, it tends to look like a thick mass, and have to thin it out, and layer it. I walked into Grass Roots w/the intent of trying out a Razor Cut w/choppy bangs, and boy was I impressed and overjoyed with the results. It's really tough for me to find a stylist that meets my needs (and pricepoint), but I found her at Grass Roots! Not only is my stylist amazing, the rest of the staff is as well. I love the aromatic smell of the place, the kind and helpful staff, the cup of tea and water they offer, and the relaxing decor!!! I love grassroots, and can't wait until they merge with their Skin Care Spa near my home! Yay! read more

Grassroots Salon & Spa is not honest in their dealings with customers. Prices on their website are not honored, much higher than advertised. I was charged $100 for a service that should have been $35. If you ask for a refund they will make you feel like they are doing you a favor. I was refunded only $21. I believe that if I'm going to fork over $75-$115 (not to mention tip) to get my hair cut and colored that I should be pretty happy when I leave. This is not always the case at this salon. I admit, I went there for like 3 years straight, mostly because of the lack of quality salons in Northern Utah but also because I liked my stylist. However, when I realized that I tried not to talk to her so that my hair wouldn't look spotty I figured it was time for me to go. I've also had my husband go there and when he had Jodi cut his hair it always looked great! But she left and ever since he always comes home with a waaay too short cut. We've given them many chances and I think we need to cut our ties and move on. Have had eyebrows waxed there (along with the hubby's) mine were waaay un-even and they burnt him by using too hot of wax. read more

Will never go here again! I had been to Grassroots in Layton a few times before and was always happy with the work that they did. I'm very simple when it comes to my haircuts, I have (had) very long hair so I'd get everything trimmed (length, layers, bangs). This particular time that I visited Grassroots I had made an appointment for 1230. I didn't wait long for my stylist and as she took me back to her chair she asked what I wanted done, I explained to her exactly what I wanted (my normal trim). She takes me to get my hair washed and after she puts the conditioner in I noticed that she walked away without saying anything and started cleaning another sink. A couple minutes later she tells me she had put a mask on my hair (unsure if she was going to try to charge me). So as she was about to cut my hair she asks me to stand up out of the chair (which I have never EVER been asked to do), no problem maybe that's just her style. She finishes and I sit down. She cuts a little bit more (doesn't touch my bangs) and then asks if there's anything else I want. So I kindly ask if she could trim my bangs. She does then proceeds to blow my hair out straight. Once she was done you could tell there was absolutely no layers to my hair anymore nor was there any shape, she literally cut straight across. So I asked for a little more layers and for her to lighten it up because my hair is very thick. She seemed annoyed at this point and asked me what time I came in. After she finishes this fix (not so much a fix) she walks to the front and a few minutes later comes back to tell me that they're going to charge me per hour because she did "multiple" haircuts. I clearly wasn't going to argue with her because not only did she not know how to professionally present herself but, she absolutely did not know how to cut hair. Did I mention that she cut off over 7 inches when I only asked for two?! This wouldn't have bothered me so much if I couldn't see that she literally cut a chunk of my hair straight across in the front. Instead of fixing, she kept cutting. So I walk up to the front and told the two ladies that I'm not paying for this cut. The woman at the front desk tells me I have to because I was there for so long and I had to AT LEAST pay for the initial cut. I reiterated that I was not paying a dime for this haircut because it looks terrible. So she grabs the phone to call her manager and a few minutes later comes back to tell me "you're good". The reason this salon is getting a one star is for their lack of professionalism and respect to their customers. There was no apology for my dissatisfaction nor was there an offer to fix my stylists mistakes. I would have paid for an initial had there been. And the fact that my stylist smirked after telling me I had to pay by the hour told me that she didn't care about my satisfaction as a customer(only her money). I unfortunately don't remember her name but if your stylist is anyone who dresses sloppy and has faded pink hair, run away! If you want a great local salon go to Salon Rox in Ogden. I decided to give this place a try as I was in need of a new stylist and love Aveda products. Setting an appointment was quick and easy. Upon arrival, I was impressed with the decor and ambiance of this salon. I was quickly checked in and offered a beverage. So far so good. My appointment was with a stylist named Kresta. She was very nice and personable with me, great with small talk. I decided to go with an ombre look, trying to jazz things up a bit. Unfortunately, things did not turn out as planned. I left looking like I had a low light added and that was about it. Not one person noticed a change, as a level 8/9 blonde going to a brown-blonde ombre this should be quite drastic. I called the salon after my appointment not wanting to embarrass the girl in a salon full of people. I was told they will not refund but will have the same stylist redo my color. Why in the heck would I want the same person to do my hair that messed it up the first time. I left it at that. Sadly, my search for a great stylist will continue. read more

My hair nightmare is over!! I came from all the way in south Jordan to go to Harmony! She is simply amazing. So knowledgeable, patient and thorough. I had a fancy well renown salon in draper leave me with a chemical haircut after I got a melt done and all my beautiful locks broke off. After spending thousands of dollars over the past year on sew in hair extensions that only ruined my hair more. Harmony got me hooked on the halo couture hair extensions. They do not damage your hair and you have no idea they are even on your head! You can take them out every night as well and are very low maintenance. Not to mention the finest quality human hair I have seen in an extension. Harmony is a color master and matched them perfectly with my hair. I will be going out of my way to come back to Layton to the friendly ladies at this salon!!! read more

Had a foot soak and we chit chatted about our silly boys, inquired about what I was looking at getting for the facial, talked about product, then I went into the room and changed and got under the sheets for the facial.
