Fantastic soup! This is very much so a local place. At times, they may be unexpectedly closed or a soup may run out. The decor is random and all over, service is very limited, and the selection is limited. But if you like real food, you must try this place, because this is a place where real people have a passion for real food and are sharing that passion through their little cafe. Check their Facebook page before you go for (usually) up-to-date information. And when you do get there, if it's available, try the spicy Moroccan tomato soup - you'll be surprised how filling a tomato soup can be! read more

Grateful Bread? I visited Grateful Bread today with a friend and was very sad to see that this "bread shop" sells no bread, which I think is odd. The soup was chunky and overly thick in comparision to other Moroccan tomato soups I've eaten. It was a little upsetting to my stomach as well and tasted a bit scalded. I eat spicy food often. The "upsetting" part was not due to the soup being spicy - uncertain as to why it made my stomach upset. The atmosphere is unique. It could be a really cool bakery. The hours are odd. I think they are open 4 days a week for four hours each day. The saddest part of my visit was hearing the owner bad mouth two other locally owned shops loud enough for customers to hear. Great soup, the morrocan tomato is served every day and, in my opinion, one of their best. The scones are great. The cookies are great. This place can be verrry busy during lunch, especially in the winter. The price for the food you get is outstanding. I often get a quart (not exactly sure if thats the right measurement) of the soup, which comes with two bread choices. It easily lasts me two meals and comes in under ten bucks. If you people at grateful bread are reading this, I've got a great idea for you. Starting tweeting (twitter) your soup specials every day. That would be awesome. This place is CASH only, which is kind of a pain but totally understandable and well worth the hassle of running by an ATM. I think they may take checks too, not sure. Be prepared for a big crowd if you go during a busy time (lunch mon-fri, in my experience). Also, be prepared for some bad-assed soup. read more

Stellar soups, and quality baked goods (yes, the scones are as light, buttery, flaky, and amazing as people say). If you go during lunch hours, the lines are long and often out the door... but definitely worth it. The funky decor is something to gaze at while you wait! A suggestion would be to offer a low sodium soup for those on restricted diets, and if they haven't made the brownies (with a bit of espresso/coffee flavor) lately -- please bring them back! No one has produced a better brownie in the area. If the gentleman at the counter isn't as lively as another reviewer expected, it could be due to Freakbeat being extremely busy when they're open. Stayed in Lincoln while on a road trip, found this place through Yelp. It was delicious! Soups were great, Mac and cheese was great and the scones were the best I've had. Can't believe it doesn't have a higher star rating on here. I appreciate a smaller menu since the quality is usually better. Definitely eat here if you are in town. So good. read more

Food is great. The owners however really needs to consider hiring help over the lunch hour. Impossible to go to if you have just an hour for lunch. There's always a long line as testimony to the yummy soups. If she had help it would be real service to their loyal following. Also, miss the fantastic bread they to serve. I love this place for all the different vegetarian treats they offer. In my day, there were a lot more places like that I remember, so I really appreciate this place. I wish they were open more often and kept regular hours though. Oh, and how can not love the name?! read more

Grateful Bread is my favorite place to eat on the face of the earth. I now live in Denver and this is the place I look forward to going when I am in town. Last time I came back to visit they were closed for summer vacation. I cried. I can't find good soup and cheese scones anywhere in Denver. Worth the wait and for me worth the drive. If I had to pick a last meal, it would be either the curried cauliflower soup or moroccan tomato with a cheese scone and a brownie from here. Love every soup and mac'n'cheese I have tried from here. Haven't tried the new extended menu (the creole hoppin john or whatever it is, etc), but I am willing to be that they are heaven on a plate or in a bowl. Love, Love this place! Delicious Soups, all of which you can try before you buy, just ask. So if you get a soup you don't enjoy you have only yourself to blame. I tried Grateful Bread for the first time today. I was a little lost today when I first ordered. Not knowing if I just needed to sit down or order from the counter. Obviously from the counter. The decor is funky and really liked it. The Moroccan Tomato Soup was amazing as suggested by a friend. I also tried the Chipotle Mac and Cheese. Both were filling and tasted great. Love this unique restaurant that serves amazing food! You gotta visit this place to get the full effect- nothing else quite like it in Lincoln. The decor is fun, the staff is friendly and their Moroccan soup is to die for... as is their rolls, ...and macaroni! Mac and cheese is my favorite food so it's no surprise that Grateful Bread is one of my favorite places to eat. They serve a variety of different types of mac and cheese that rotate everyday. My absolute favorite is the baby Bella mac and cheese. Omg it is sooo good. I mean, all their mac is good. They also serve soup and I'm a big fan of their Moroccan tomato. This place is a gem. Their cheese scones are also worth writing home about, oh and dont forget their cookies. I can't say enough good things about them. I love the decor in their restaurant, it's weird and crazy but super cool. The women's bathroom is also the same way. Many people complain the portions are too big, but that's too bad, I disagree. It's worth mentioning that they are cash only and that they often keep odd hours. They will close for a day or two randomly or for longer so it's a good idea to check their Facebook to see if they're open. I applaud them for doing what they want!
