Me, my MIL, and 2 year old went at lunch and I had the cheesy chicken orzo, corn, creamed spinach, and Lima beans. The orzo reminded me of chicken spaghetti but with orzo instead, super yummy! This was my first time having creamed spinach and I'm glad I tried it. Lima beans are always a good option but theirs are cooked with bacon (the right way ;)) and are so good. Definitely a lunch crowd, mostly men who are on lunch break so they get the food out quick but sacrifice no quality while doing it! Their bread roll was homemade which I definitely appreciated, it was moist and fresh. I will most certainly make this a frequent stop! The chicken was good and I loved the tea. Next time, I'll try the roll. I was hoping the cornbread would be sweeter, after all we live in the South! Ok so outside of the friendly staff I'm not sure what to say about this place. The price I paid was like $9 so for the price I can complain. I feel like the macaroni may have been out of a box and then doctored up to taste better. I mean the food wasn't horrible but I have had better. The chicken was well cooked and crispy. This is a favorite lunch spot for my coworkers and me. The food is always great. The staff is always friendly.

My husband and I try to eat this at least once a week. You gotta get there earlier than noon so the best sides don't sell out. Other places in Hattiesburg try to do blue plate and miss the mark. These people know where the mark is at and hit it. Tuesdays and Fridays are where it's at for me. The Mac and cheese, sweet potatoes, beans (any type), and tomato pie are legit. I like to eat a piece of fried catfish for lunch and save a cold piece to eat later. The people behind the counter are a bonus. read more

This place has delicious homestyle southern cooking! I ate there on Friday with 4 friends and we enjoyed the fried catfish plates! I appreciate that they have so many sides to pick from. I opted for the lima beans and their broccoli salad. Both were great! The catfish was excellent and you get ample portions. (We all agreed a nap would have been nice.) Their rolls, cornbread and hush puppies are equally good, so it was hard to pick which one I wanted, but I opted for cornbread and it was yummy! They have great sweet tea, a table filled with condiments including tartar sauce for the catfish. The atmosphere was "country shabby chic" and very comfortable. I sort of felt like I was dining in someone's grandma's place! We plan to go back soon! All 5 of us enjoyed our meals and that is a great testament to the food! read more

I'm giving this cute and charming place two stars because I have indeed had better and the food is not very good, with the exception of dessert. The best side dish, a homemade tomato pie, seems to have been discontinued. All the mains I've tried, such as various chicken dishes, meat loaf, pork chops, taste like cafeteria food. The sides come out of a can so long as a can is available, and the rest are pretty insipid. Lest you think that I merely don't like southern-style food, know that I think such food can be delicious. But that requires lovely fresh ingredients prepared with love and heart, ingredients I found lacking here. In theory, this kind of restaurant could be great; in execution, it falls flat. read more

I live down the street from Gratefull Soul and finally made a point to come in. I got my lunch to go today, and the whole visit was great! The line was long but moved very quickly, and it took less than ten minutes to get my to go order. I had the cheesy chicken orzo, lima beans, mashed potato, and broccoli salad. My order came in a sealed plastic container that kept my food piping hot until I could get home. Everything was so well-seasoned, and the chicken orzo was moist. I could eat a pound of the broccoli salad- it has just the right oniony crunch. My only complaint is price- $11 for a basic meat and three is steep, and there are other joints close by that serve similar, or better, food for less. read more

Today I am a grateful soul for GrateFull Soul! We had the BEST meal at this local eatery on our way to New Orleans! It's a perfect stopping point for out of towners driving through Hattiesburg or locals looking for some home cooking like Grandma used to do! The owner is very personable and passionate about the food she makes - and you can tell with that first bite! The fried catfish was incredibly tasty with the perfect savory breading--even my family member who doesn't like fish was begging for bites after trying some of mine! They live up to their name! If you don't leave FULL it is your own fault. This is standard meat and three. They offer several meat options and sides each day. You go up to the counter to order and even when the line is long, it moves quickly. I love the atmosphere of the place as well - it's very homey. My favorite part of a meat and three, is the veggies, so I usually go with a veggie place. That is, unless I get there early enough to get one of their super popular tomato pies. SO good. I've tried several places throughout the years that were okay but nothing that could top that good delta taste until I tried this place. The food is so good..................... From the time I open the lid on the to go plate I couldn't stop eating. I even tried the hot tamale pie, :)......... This is my favorite now. The chicken was hot and fried so pretty. I'm a native of Hattiesburg and this place became my favorite spot. Nice location in Downtown Hattiesburg. My bad experience was in regards to their catering service. I wanted them to cater my rehearsal dinner for my wedding. I messaged them in December 2018 on Facebook about catering and they replied saying they would email their rates. I messaged twice and never received the email. I called twice and was told I would be followed up with after the " holiday season" because they were busy. Again we were never followed up with. My fiancé called as well and was never followed up with. I am happy to see a small business have success. I assume business is so good they don't see the need to follow up with catering request. I only ask don't offer services that you don't follow up on. Fortunately we were able to secure a reliable catering for our upcoming Dinner rehearsal in April. I will say that every one we communicated with was nice but there was no follow up or getting back with us. It was like we were having to chase them down and I guess they were too busy for us. I like this place a lot. Food seems freah, although they seem to have changed the recipe and ingredients for the cornbread. It used to be special and made with whole grain cornmeal. Now itis just ordinary, i can see why other reviewers think it is from a box. I like the hot lunches. Get here early, they do sell out. Tomato pie is the best. This is why I am marking it down and areas in which they can greatly improve: 1.) overpriced by several dollars. Come one, just lower it. I spend $11. For food and tea. Way too much for what it is. 2.) should have some sort of rewards or lower prices if you come every day for lunch. A customer loyalty plan or somehthing 3.) the amount of plastic being dumped is shameful, absolutely shameful, and there is no excuse for it. Just buy plates and wash them. 4.) NO air condition!!! Always crowded for lunch. Decent folks and good service. Fun atmosphere. The food is served hot and casual and always hits the spot. I do think the food could be diversified somewhat, it's mainly comfort food BUT always good. At this point, they've been around for awhile and it's always my go-to meal downtown.
