Five stars, no question! This place is a hidden gem. The prices are great, the portions are HUGE, and the food is absolutely delicious. My coworker loved her meal so much she saved half of it for dinner -- that tells you everything you need to know about both the quality and the quantity! The entire wait staff is friendly and helpful, but a special shoutout to our server Katelynn -- she is amazing! She even checked on us personally because she knew the kitchen had taken a while. That kind of genuine care is what keeps customers coming back. One thing to know going in: this is not a quick lunch spot. The kitchen runs a little slow, even when it's not crowded -- so come when you have time to sit, relax, and enjoy. Think of it as a leisurely dining experience rather than a fast lunch. Totally worth it. I will absolutely be back!

We tried Midtowner for breakfast and one word to describe the experience is YUM! Their menu has a good variety, basic breakfast items but cooked at best. My favorite dish out of all we tried was their pancake! Cooked perfectly, fluffy, and it warmed my heart (I love a good pancake!) The chicken fried steak was also a good dish to order if you're wanting a hearty breakfast. Service was friendly and quick, ambiance is clean. Loved all the memorabilia displayed related to southern miss - this is a definitely on my list to go back to.

Stopped for breakfast. They have a diverse menu, including a section for those who want something that is low fat, high and protein. My waitress was amazing. Friendly and professional. I opted for an egg white turkey omelette with fruit cup. It was delicious Very nice not to simply get a bowl of cantaloupe or melon; but rather, assorted berries and pineapple. Coffee cup never got below 1/2 a cup. Very welcoming vibe. Another Yelper said it felt like a community diner. I can see that but it's more. Airy and bright, with a small town feel. So many pictures on the walls - I love that. As a single diner, I was given the opportunity to sit anywhere rather than being relegated to the counter. That is always nice. I've already recommended The Midtowner to 3 locals.

We came here on a Sunday morning around 10am. There is plenty of parking so you don't have to worry about that. The restaurant was packed but a few tables had just left so we were seated immediately in the front corner. I ordered the hardy breakfast, which consisted of eggs, hash browns, 2 sausage patties, and 2 pancakes. The pancakes were the star of the meal. They must add sugar to the pancake batter because you don't need syrup on those pancakes. They were delicious. The eggs were stone cold. Like ice. I'm not sure how long that plate was sitting in the window before it was brought to the table, but I probably should've asked for fresh eggs but instead I just didn't eat them. The sausage patties retained heat better and were pretty good. The hash browns were fine as well. This meal did the job. My partner had the Midtowner which consisted of country fried steak, over easy eggs, and a hash brown. I tried the country fried steak and it was good so I would recommend that.

This was our first time here. The atmosphere was lively and full of nostalgic pictures. Someone was even there giving an interview with the local news channel. Nick was our server and he took great care of us. We ordered the number one (classic breakfast) and it was delicious! The bacon was so good we ordered more on the side. The eggs were fluffy and the biscuit was good by itself. We will definitely be back!

The food was amazing! I showed up a few minutes to 11 am and thoroughly enjoyed a chicken fried steak with gravy, two fried eggs and hash browns. I am never disappointed with menu options. Sitting at the restaurant bar area it's first come, first serve in case you are in a hurry. The place brings you back in time and is a very nice quaint place.

This place always delivers. Well, I don't know if they deliver as we always eat in. It was a Thursday morning about 730am so it was pretty empty - no wait to be seated and the food came out very quickly. Coffee is very good here, it's a local and they brew it well here. Our server, James, did a great job taking orders and keeping our coffees topped off. Everyone's food was very good. I work hard to stay in shape and keep my cholesterol at a healthy level but damn if the siren song of this place doesn't pull me in every time I'm in Hattiesburg.

So nice to dine with Nick today at Midtowner! You can tell this is an upscale brunch/lunch type establishment. Thanks for your service. We are a party of 5, traveling from Louisiana. Everybody hungry! And, the menu is amazing. Bae got a vegetable plate with greens, Mac and cheese, black eyed peas and fried okra. He says Mac and cheese is trash. Mommy and Dee shared breakfast. They got pancakes, grits, ham, sausage and eggs. Ma raved about the pancakes. Dee raved about the ham. Jen got the hamburger steak, squash and Lima beans with a cat head biscuit. Jen raved about the biscuit. I got the club sandwich with fries. Fries were terrible. But, When I say, that club sandwich, DELICIOUS! And, Nick recommended the honey mustard! This stuff here is Good! Yall already know, when Im happy and passing thru Hattiesburg, Mississippi, I shall return.

My first return visit was quite pleasant and I was very surprisingly pleased as their shrimp gumbo actually tasted like gumbo which often isn't the case once you get outside of Louisiana. I also sampled their burger with a side of onion rings which was decent but the burger was more of a thin patty fast food style burger while I prefer the NOLA style thick beef patty. I made another visit to try out their poboy so I again got the shrimp gumbo along with a shrimp poboy. This visit was not as pleasant as the first as the shrimp gumbo just seemed off while the poboy was alright but the bread seemed a bit less than fresh. In NOLA poboy bread is good for one day and goes stale so then it is used to make bread pudding. The big poboy bread bakeries in NOLA have started to ship out their bread to other places and somehow have found a way to keep it fresh longer but it still just seems you can't get that same fresh poboy bread experience anywhere outside of NOLA. The ambiance of Gold Post is till 1970's fantastic with nothing being changed from the way I remember it as a kid so that is always nostalgic. The service at Gold Post is fast food style where you order at the counter but they do clean your table. Overall this is a decent joint and one of the few poboy spots in Hattiesburg, MS.

You can even get them "dressed" Nola style with your choice of gravy. Yum Yum Yum! The tiny bistro French fries here are Amazeballs, perfect marriage with NOLA po'Boys :)... AND, the red beans & rice are served traditional NOLA style with French bread. You can get a cup or a bowl, we got a bowl & took one home. The salads here are also worth the drive, they even have their own signature dressing. it's over 2 hours for us but when we need a NOLA fix with nostalgia, it's a Hail Mary to the "GoldPost." It's been a complete coin toss every time I've visited as to whether I'm going to have a wonderful or terrible time. On the good days, everything is as expected, service is prompt, the food is good, etc. etc. The steaks are quality, as are the burgers. On the bad days though, it's usually really bad. One notable example I feel I have to give: we arrived at 4:30, were seated immediately, but no one came by for 25 minutes, at which point we flagged down the first server we could find who informed us that "the server for your section isn't here yet" (then why seat us there?????) Then, when someone finally came by to take our order, they brought the wrong appetizer and a ribeye instead of the filet we ordered. The manager eventually stopped by to comp the steak, which is the only reason I'm giving 3 stars instead of 2. This is just one example of many times where either the food, service, or both have been lacking. Needless to say, don't bank on necessarily having a good time here unless you have some kind of good karma going on from helping an old lady across the street or something to boost your odds of a good experience.

They opened one in Florida and when we visited we were just not as impressed and decided we probably wouldn't go back unless it was the original one. While on vacation again, we noticed Vicious Biscuit on the map and decided to give it another try. I'm so glad we did because the food was spot on and delicious. I got the Vicious and my husband got the Flame Thrower. The biscuits are buttery, flaky, and flavorful. Both of ours came with a cheddar jalapeño biscuit and they were exactly as we had remembered when we visited the OG Vicious Biscuit. The chicken, the cowboy candy, and gravy on mine were perfect. The chicken, cowboy candy, and candied bacon on my husband's were equally excellent. Great job on making us wanting to visit again!
