If great restaurants were graded on atmosphere and service alone, Crescent City Grill would be sitting near the top of the class. The staff is attentive without hovering, professional without feeling scripted, and they genuinely make you feel welcome. The ambience hits that sweet spot -- energetic but still comfortable, making it an easy place to settle in and enjoy your meal. Now let's talk about the real headline act: the cheese grits. Absolutely out of this world. Creamy, rich, perfectly seasoned and the pepper Jack cheese added a wonderful touch-- they weren't a side dish, they were the star of the show. If they sold those by the gallon, I'd consider questionable life decisions. I ordered the shrimp po'boy. The shrimp themselves? Fantastic. Fresh, fried just right, and piled generously. The toppings and that homemade remoulade (or whatever magic sauce they're whipping up back there) were bright and flavorful. The only hiccup: the bread. The ends were toasted with the intensity of a NASA heat shield. I needed jaw strength training to get through the first few bites. Once you navigated past that crunchy barricade though, it was smooth sailing. I finished with the deep dish apple pie à la mode. I'm not sure if it was made in-house, outsourced, or assembled by a dessert engineer in a lab somewhere -- but I don't really care. It worked. Warm apples, flaky crust, walnuts, brown sugar, and cold ice cream melting into the whole situation... excellent flavor combo. Bonus points for a strong bourbon selection at prices that don't require a small loan application. That alone will get me back in the door. Four stars because of the bread battle, but I'd absolutely come back -- especially for those grits and a good pour of bourbon.

Food was delicious, always consistently great during both visits here. Service is great as well, we had a large party and they managed it well. Vibes are great, we were in a back private room, so we were tucked away from the rest of the restaurant.

This is probably the all around best restaurant in the Hattiesburg, MS area. I've eaten here many times over the years but it had been awhile since my last visit. Crescent City Grill had undergone quite a renovation since my last visit (they still had half the building as a Mexican restaurant the last time I had visited years ago) and the bathrooms design had changed substantially. They now have some quite heavy doors with substantial metal handles in the bathroom and somehow the door managed to swing back rapidly and smashed right into my forehead with the tip of the very large and tall metal handle. I thought I might have cracked my skull I was hit so hard and I was bleeding quite profusely for a long while (speaking as an old rugby player that has been cracked in the head really hard many times). I thought I had finally got the blood stopped but when I went back to my seat in the restaurant the waitress informed me I had started bleeding again. So while I've always enjoyed the food and environment here I'm not a fan of these new to me massive doors with huge metal handles that are head level being put into such a tight space as where the bathrooms are located. Overall good food with skull cracking bathroom doors... Four stars for the food and service negative stars for the skull cracking!

We went here last week on a road trip for our vacation. This is a beautiful restaurant, the foyer area with the host desk reminds me of an old hotel. The food was exquisite. We had the smoked duck spring rolls, the corn and crab bisque, the Caesar salad, the crawfish étouffée, and the blackened catch of the day which was monkfish I believe. Everything was delicious and that corn and crab bisque was amazing as were the duck rolls. Our server was Weston and he did a very good job of taking care of us. I highly recommend this place.

Nice cajun restaurant in Hattiesburg . We entered through the bar area outside and it was beautiful! They had an outdoor movie area, a big bar, lots of seating, and fire pits. Inside was huge with 3 more bars and lota of festive Christmas decor. We looked up the menu before and went specifically for Cajun food and fot the grilled oysters. But when we got there the waiter told us they did not have any oysters (I do not know for how long). The server was very nice and did a great job making recommendations and describing the fish of the day. We asked for a gluten free menu for my husband which they provided which was nice. We started with the Crab Wontons which were tasty. They had a creamy filling and were crunchy with a sweet chili sauce for dipping. I thought the presentation was lacking and they would have been nice with a garnish or something like a slaw but overall they tasted good. We also got a bowl of the "signature" corn and crab chowder. I was hoping for more cajun flavor and definitely more crab , maybe even some crab on top, but it was more of a basic potato corn chowder with a hint of seafood and no spice. My kids loved it though. Next time I would try the gumbo. The rest of our meal arrived pretty fast and the server was good with refills and clearing plates up until then. I got the Chicken Cobb salad as recommended by the server. I asked for no tomato and dressing on the side. It arrived mixed up, not with the ingredients in rows like some salads so it was hard to tell what was on it and it looked messy. But when I started eating I found that it was covered in chopped tomatoes and was completely missing the avocado. I told our server I would just pick out the tomatoes and he did go get me a side of avocado. Obviously a kitchen mistake and pretty frustrating to have 2 things wrong with one dish. My daughter got the shrimp poboy and fried green tomatoes and loved it especiallythe remoulade sauce! We got a slice of pumpkin cheesecake to go and it was pretty tasty too. Service was great until we got out food and then our server disappeared. It was around 8 and we were thr only ones left in the room so it felt.like he was cleaning and forgot about us. We all need refills and the check but had to wait about 20 minutes. Other than that wait the server was great but I think at the end of the night that happens often and makes customers feel ignored. Overall, I think we will definitely be back. I know restaurants constantly update their menu but I was really hoping for a oyster poboy or debris poboy as pictured online but neither were on the menu. I will cross my fingers that they have grilled oysters next time b/c that would have made our meal so much better.

Solo dinner on a work trip This place is neat! What fun spot to hit with some friends, sit on the bar side or the way cool patio. Nice menu choices I had the corn and crab bisque and crawfish etouffee. The soup should have been warmer but tasted nice First time trying an etouffee, it was very tasty sauce over rice. I wished for more sauce and less rice. Loved it Server was friendly and helpful. Go and sit the bar or patio. What a great ambiance

    Fried Green Tomatoes

The Fried green tomatoes needed salt & flavor. Didn't care for the tomato-based sauce on the tomatoes. The catfish plaquemine was very flavorful, however it was too spicy for my taste buds. If you like spicy, this dish is a must try!! Lastly, the shrimp and grits were tasty, but very soupy & oily. YUCK!! I would not recommend this dish. The blackened catfish I added to dish was quite oily too, won't order it again. We ordered the Mardi Gras King cake bread pudding for dessert, WHAT A TREAT!!! The best tasting bread pudding I've ever eaten!! If you like bread pudding, this one is a MUST TRY!! You won't be disappointed. I love the decor & the ambiance of the restaurant & the bar is a nice place to kickback. Next time I'm in the area, I may try something different. Hopefully, the next dish will be better.

    Fried Green Tomatoes

Since our first visit in 1994, a meal in Hattiesburg at any Robert St. John restaurant never disappoints, but today was extra special at our number #1 Cresent City! While we continue to miss the blackened shrimp pie, blackened shrimp poboy, and the BBQ shrimp, the sloppy roast beef poboy is a standard order for the family leader. Now, I vary my order upon our 6-month visit when traveling through town as long as a shrimp is involved. Today, it was the shrimp poboy and fried green tomatoes, but something was different. I may have heard angels singing on the first bite into that fresh, warm bread. What in the world? The manager verified it's a bun made fresh daily by the local bakery. What? How did we miss a new Robert St. John storefront, and how far away is it. Needless to say, when we found out the bakery also supplied the homemade chocolate cake, we had dessert, too! Two very pleasant experiences on Hardy Street and one more Robert St. John cookbook later, our travel plans continued, but where shall we stop on the way back through Hattiesburg? Odds are....another round at our beloved Crescent! Hands down the best lunch or dinner spot in the state of Mississippi that we continue to recommend to our friends.

The lighting is a bit dim for our old eyes but otherwise it has the feel of a pub. We loved that. Our server was very nice and helpful. We ordered the bacon cheddar fries. The fries are like a cottage fries that are then cut into strips. Perfect fry on them. The bacon could have been crispier but great flavor and a good ranch. I had the KPauls pasta. We all enjoyed it. Pasta cooked perfectly al dente. If you love a saucy pasta this isn't for you. It is nice and creamy but not swimming in it. Big plump shrimp that tasted great. Also has chunks of chicken breast and sliced sausage. Uncle Jim got the red beans and rice. Great flavor but barely warm. The catfish is a thicker cut and battered in a coarsely ground corn meal. Aunt Robin had the shrimp and grits. Those were the star of the show. So creamy and incredible flavor. Very generous amount of nice sized shrimp. Mike had the Keg Stand burger. He requested the sauce on the side. It's definitely a unique flavor. Nice soft bun. The meat was grossly over cooked but would have been tasty had it not been so dry. The onion rings that came with the burger were soggy. Overall, enjoyed it. We know what to get next time. Shrimp and grits and KPauls pasta!!
