After we completed our errands this afternoon we decided to stop in to The Nest for a round of drinks and appetizers before returning home. We had the pleasure of being served by the owner himself, who is an extremely friendly and polite gentleman. The vibe upon walking in immediately felt casual and welcoming. The owners passion for what he does shines when he speaks about the menu and about the restaurant. He was extremely attentive despite being short staffed this evening, and being it was our first time in he took the time to explain that the restaurant uses only locally sourced ingredients, and makes as much as they can from scratch in house. The drink menu is pretty expansive and is full of many craft cocktails that are not commonly found elsewhere. Being someone who loves a French 75 and a Tom Collins, I was happy to see both. You'll find many specialty flavors of margaritas, gin and tonics, and smoked cocktails all made with locally distilled spirits. Additionally, they have a nice selection of local beer, wine, and cider when available. As far as the food menu, there are few (if any!) other restaurants I can honestly say I would be willing to try every item on the menu, but this is one of them. There is a unique collection of dishes and options for everyone, with entree options varying from red meat, to seafood, to gluten free, to vegetarian. We opted for two of the appetizers, the baked Brie and nuts and the bison carpaccio. Both were exceptional and fresh tasting. The quality of the ingredients used is apparent. This place will have to be one of our go-to spots from now on. The service is enough to keep you coming back, but we are so looking forward to trying everything else the menu has to offer. Wife and I shared two sandwiches...their Bench Club and also a chicken panini. The club featured sliced turkey, crisp bacon, Canadian smoked cheddar, avocado, lettuce and tomato on grilled multi-grain bread. The panini was pressed and grilled, served with chicken breast, basil pesto mayo, melted cheese and a house-made apple chutney on ciabatta bread. Both were hearty, filling and delicious. Timing was right, service prompt and a solid meal before our next car adventure.

It wasn't heavy laden with salt or oil like restaurant which we appreciated. The poutines were not super heavy as I remembered poutine to be. I'm sure this is bc it's a healthier version and plant-based, which meant we could eat more and still feel good! This was the most perfect meal that didn't feel like a compromise in terms of healthy eating. I hope we can get back here for one more meal before we leave Penticton!

In other words, it's…read more the same brand, but it's teensy weensy and you aren't completely sure it'll get you to your destination. This Whole Foods is a health food store, not a gourmet store; it's smaller than the smallest Whole Foods in Vancouver, which means it's less than a quarter the size of a "real" Whole Foods. If you're looking for a few specialty items that you can't get anywhere else, you may be in luck. There's a huge selection of vitamins, a good assortment of gluten-free and other specialty health food-type ingredients, and a very large bulk food department. What you won't find are the goodies that make the full-size Whole Foods so tempting, and so dangerous. Very few preprepared foods, and no salad bar. A very modest selection of cheese and meats. A selection of baked goods commendable mainly for offering wheat-free options. A couple of aisles' worth of boxed and canned goods. And one more note: we accidentally bought milk that was 3 days past its expiration date. So do check the dates on all purchases before hitting checkout.
