Brodo salad bowl with smoked salmon
    Katie A.

Great lunch spot! We stopped by for a quick lunch and were blown away by the flavor in their food! I had the Brodo Salad Bowl with smoked salmon. My husband had the smoked salmon Niçoise salad. We also had their soup flight which came in the cutest little mugs. We had a brownie and a pecan treat for dessert. We loved it so much we went back a couple of days later - I got the same salad (craving it) and my husband had one of their sandwich specials of the day and it was AMAZING!! All the other specials were sold out! If they were half as good as the one we had I totally understand! We did the brownie again for dessert - they are so good!!! They have the texture almost of a floor less chocolate cake. The atmosphere was so inviting and there were always people coming in. Great restaurant and the staff was so friendly and nice and knew the menu well! Definitely recommend. We will be back!

I don't know what the story behind the name Brodo is, but I wouldn't be surprised if it had to do with the camaraderie of the bros in the kitchen. I don't usually comment on inter-staff interactions at restaurants, but I was very pleasantly surprised at the familiarity between all the guys working between the front of house and kitchen. Everyone kept checking in on each other and joking around, and I thought that created a really nice environment. Now for the food - the soup trio/flight is a great choice, especially for those of us who are indecisive and really would like to have one of everything on the menu. I tried the tomato Parmesan soup with a basil sauce, beef chuck and chorizo chili, and a baked potato soup with bacon and scallions. All three were incredible; special shout-out to the last one, which was a feature of the day. I've never had a creamy baked potato soup (which sounds heavy) be so light and delicious. Got a side of cornbread, which was the perfect balance of sweet and savory as well! Prices were also decent, my meal came to about $11. Cafe feel, you order at the front, and all the tables and chairs are wooden/dark concrete, which gives a rustic comfort vibe. I will definitely be back here if I'm ever in Penticton again!

Cubano sandwich and tomato soup! Delicious but also $17 and I was still hungry after.

I have very mixed reviews about this restaurant. Some of my thoughts are that this is amazing and other things I really hope they can improve on in the future. Let's start out with the food. I love the food and the concept that it is made with high-quality ingredients, the soup recipes and sandwiches are innovative and healthy, and above all it is extremely flavorful. That being said the portions are very small and the prices are very high. I feel like that should be adjusted a little bit. A sandwich that was smaller than a 6 inch Subway sandwich was $9.50 before tax, and an extremely small cup of soup was around $4.50 before tax. That being said my whole meal came to about $16.50 and I was still hungry afterwards. All of the workers there in the chef included was all very friendly and greeted me warmly. One of the workers walked around asking how the food was which was nice! The way the service works is you basically go up to the counter order your food, and then they call your number and you pick up the food when it's ready done. That being said there is a tip option I'm not sure what I'm tipping for if I'm the one getting my food. I also mentioned to the cashier that this is my first time here and he recommended me some of the most popular dishes which I got, and they were very good! That being said when I got my food and I sat down I was a little confused as to where to get cutlery as the cashier did not direct me as where to get cutlery or napkins myself, even though I said this is my first time. At the end of my visit I also saw that there was a big water jug and cups where customers can help them selves, though again it was a little tucked away and I didn't know about this until after. It would've been nice to have the cashier giving me my food direct me as to where I can get these things or what I should do as a new customer. In summary, the food was very good but way too expensive, and this is basically just a glorified fast food restaurant. For the price I feel that they should at least be delivering it to your table kind of like at the bench market. I definitely think that they have potential to have a more professional feel to the restaurant, and I do hope they make some adjustments! Without these small service adjustments you might as well just go to subway.

Brodo Kitchen is truly one-of-a-kind! They are professional and their experience is evident in the taste and presentation of their dishes. As wedding industry experts, we are very choosy with who we refer to our couples as vendors and Brodo Kitchen is high on our recommended vendors list. The chef takes so much care in his work, it is very refreshing to see; the food is just AMAZING!

Some of the best soup I've ever had! Great lunch shop! Soup and salad delight! We had a trio of soups, pasta salad special, grilled cheese with ham, cornbread, and more. So darn good. I wished I'd been able to God back during our stay in Penticton, but I'll be back in our trip this May. If you're in town you have to try Chef Paul's food!

    The perfect lunch!

I was in Penticton for a hockey tournament and stumbled upon this place after looking at yelp. Had an amazing meatball sub, tortilla soup, and smoke salmon potato salad. Over-the-top loved it could not recommend more highly. Some young folks trying real hard and doing a great job!

The best artisan soup and sandwiches you'll find in town. The tuna / chorizo sandwich is amazing, but so are all the other ones.

She offered to blend it, which was a great solution. I waited, and then when the soup came, she simply said, "It's been taken care of." For anyone who has ever been through cancer or cared for someone who is going through it or a serious illness, you know that feeling of utterly loneliness and overwhelm. Like nobody understands what you are going through, and you just have to keep yourself under control or you will lose it. Well, this act of kindness did me in. I broke down in tears, Crystal, the counter lady -- the human form of kindness and love -- took me outside. She told me that cancer sucks, but it would get better. Well, Crystal, it has gotten better. The soup was amazing, but more importantly that small act of kindness gave me the strength to keep going that day. I will never forget that gesture. I didn't get the chance to go back, which I will always regret. Keep doing what you are doing folks. You do more than make awesome food. Your soup and sandwiches nourish souls as well as bodies.

Reading the other reviews, I see I'm not alone in stopping here en route to Penticton (it's a good mid-point for a break). There's a small parking strip on the side of the building. I love supporting smaller shops and cafes, and this particular one is indigenous-owned so it seems extra special! Love the motto, too: "Don't panic..We have bannock!". Cute! The cafe is small but clean, with Indigenous artwork on the walls. Of course we ordered bannock! I ordered a maple one, and my kid ordered a berry one (might've been the Saskatoon berry, I forget). I'll be honest, they were absolutely delicious, and fresh, and fluffy and sweet and glazed, but mine absolutely did NOT have much of a maple taste - like, AT ALL. It was like the glaze on a Krispy Kreme glazed donut. Delicious, yes, and sugary, but not maple-y. My kid's berry one was very subtle in its berry flavor. Again, excellent, but not knock-out berry-y. To me, these treats were similar to donuts without the holes. More like fluffy fritters. Delicious, but not as unique as I thought they'd be. As for the coffees....my maple latte, again, sadly, did not taste at ALL maple-y. But it was an excellent coffee: very smooth and flavorful. You could tell the beans were excellent. There just was no maple taste. But my kid had a berry latte (again, I forget what kind), but this drink was EXCELLENT and it totally DID have a distinct berry flavor to it, and it was wonderful! (We both tried both bannocks and both lattes, and we both agreed on this review). We didn't try the sandwiches but they looked quite good. They also had some cute Kekuli Cafe merch for sale.

However, the food and service didn't justify the visit. Note, I'm a vegetarian and look at food from the creativity and care put into the offerings. The menu is confusing - Italian Pizza, South Asian Butter Chicken and pakoras, and a Hawaiian Poke Bowl. What type of food does the chef specialize in? The share plate of Tater Tots was actually good. The salad is pre-packaged, and for $22 they won't make you a fresh salad minus the onions. I spent the first 10 minutes of my meal picking out the bits I don't eat. The chef's idea of vegetarian food is to replace protein with tofu. Nothing in the slightest is built around a vegetarian flavour profile. My wife described the tofu poke bowl as "healthy." The food was fine, and some were even good. It just had dull flavours and appeared prepackaged. Hard to justify the expense. Service was up and down. We started strong but fell down after we got our food. The server even tried to pull my plate from under me "Are you done yet" with a hand pulling on my plate while I was still working on the share plates. Awkward and a little yucky. I couldn't get a refill of water and had to flag down another server to help. Ooof. Value for money, I would look elsewhere. Though, you can't beat the view.

The night we stumbled on this place was a night they had ribs on for their special. I have been all over the place to have good BBQ. These ribs blew them all away. The sauce they make there is what other sauces only dream they could be. It is the PLATINUM standard for BBQ sauce. Team, please, please make some and send it to me. I am having withdrawals! My wife who does not care much ribs kept stealing mine! Needless to say we BOTH enjoyed them. but the pleasure train did not stop there, oh no, we were on a ride and it had just started. The veggies, (carrots and broccoli) along with garlic mashed potatoes (i'm certain they were made by angels) had my wife and I savoring each and every tasty bite. We ordered two of their TO DIE FOR mocktails, honestly they were so good my mouth is still tasting that sweet nectar. And based on how good those were, I am certain any of them you order will the 110% out of this world. We also had the stuffed mushrooms from the Tapas menu along with a tomato red pepper blend soup (soup of the day, made fresh) that had us both mouth-gasiming! No joke, this review is not over. We ended up being able to meet the owner who is just the most authentic person we have met in a long time. Very true to herself and on point with every detail in her establishment, we were over the moon when she brought us a dessert for our anniversary. This caramel, chocolate covered mousse was a true wonder to taste. Literally cry worthy (well honestly all of their food is), we shed actual tears through this first meal because of how happy it made us feel. Dinner 5 stars nothing less and anyone who would do less than 5 stars needs help rethinking their life's choices. It was so good we came back for breakfast... speaking of.. Breakfast!! This place is known for its charcuterie Tapas aaaaaaand sandwiches!! We split the breakfast sandwich that was an astonishing combination of the most delectable bread, eggs, meat and yes, greens we have EVER tasted. ULTRA devine!! We also had a couple pastries. The turnover was flakey, perfectly sweet (but not too sweet) exact right amount of filling and still very fresh. (fresh we will get to, its a thing for me to write about so hold on you need to know more) The pudding dessert we had (yes we had it at breakfast, judge me) was nothing short of pure dopamine hit to the mouth. Our bodies were tingling with the immense sensation of this breakfast. Did I mention my wife had a London fog with breakfast? No, hold on, this drink was way more than we bargained for. I am not sure where this place learns to make drinks but I can tell you the skill these ladies have here is simply unparalleled! On our day of departure we went back and had lunch (mainly because I LOVE a good reouben) and theirs again, blew us away! We also had their soup of the day which was a potato bacon if I remember correctly. I had to remember my manners and not grab the bowl and guzzle it down. We topped this delectable course off with a few of their macrons. Let me tell you, if you don't try them you are wasting your time. Stunning, blissful, (so good we bought more to take home) and oh, oh my heavens the best way to cap off this place. Ok, so the food is 100% 5 stars no question but that is not all this place does for you. The thought and care that went into the ambiance and atmosphere of this place it SO on point and on theme with "queen" it had us finding something new we liked each time we went in. It's more than that though, the food is freaky fresh.
