The scenery shifted constantly as I moved through the park, and keeping a camera within reach at all times was not an exaggeration. Cadillac Mountain is the natural anchor of my visit. The drive to the summit is worth doing on its own, but I chose to hike the Gorge Trail leading up to it on foot. It was a serious undertaking that included real rock climbing sections and rewarded me with views that felt genuinely earned. I budgeted a full half day for the hike rather than driving. The summit itself has a gift shop, and the views from the top looked out in every direction with nothing obstructing them. A reservation for the Cadillac summit road costs a few dollars and needs to be booked online in advance, so I handled that before I arrived. The Beehive Trail is another strong option for hikers who want something with more exposure and elevation gain than a standard walk. I also built Sand Beach and Thunder Hole into my loop drive, and the carriage roads offered a different pace entirely, peaceful and scenic with no vehicle traffic to contend with, making them ideal for biking if I had access to wheels. Parking was a genuine challenge during peak season and on weekends in particular. Arriving early in the morning was the only reliable way to secure a spot at the popular stops without waiting an hour or more. A late fall visit would hit a sweet spot where crowds thin out considerably, the air is crisp, and the park takes on a quieter quality that peak season cannot offer. I made sure to buy my park pass at the visitor center and did my research on seasonal hours before I went, as services and shuttles wind down toward the end of October.

It has wonderful harbor views and is a short stroll to downtown shops and restaurants. We spent 3 glorious nights in the New Amsterdam Suite. The suite is quite simply huge with a fireplace in a large sitting room and separate bedroom (with a king size feather bed) plus a bathroom as large as an airplane hanger. The suite has two private porches and windows with spectacular views everywhere. While the structure is 140+ years old, it has modern and luxurious furnishings. The lounge is filled with jars of old-time candies. If you have a sweet tooth, this space is close to heaven on earth. As impressive as the inn is, it pales in comparison to the staff. They keep the inn spotless and running efficiently. Special shoutouts to Sara, Sam, and Hope. These ladies made our stay magical. Their attention to detail made it feel as if we were the only guests on the property. Our visit did have one negative and it was a BIG one. We had to leave!!!! Can't wait to come back for another visit.

This place came up and we called hesitatingly to see if they have vacancy on a saturday night and they did. The motel is ran by a sweet couple from their porch. They man (whose name i forgot) waited for us to check in around 11:30. Yes, the furniture was outdated and there was a weird stuffy smell in the room, but the service was pleasant, free basic bagel & coffee breakfast and cheap and easy last minute booking 15 miles from Acadia. Only down side the wireless is limited and only works from the porch of the office.

I noticed some other reviewers pointed out how terrible the hotel condition was -- the room itself didn't have a problem, it was clean and very cozy. Their main office looked like an antique shop, chaotic but in an organized fashion! If some reviewers wanted to have a crazy clean hotel room with modern decors in this area, they would have to pay at least double the rate this hotel offered. Nothing is perfect, and so this hotel has just the right balance between comfort and affordability. The owners are also trying their best to make improvements on the room every season. We should have touched base with the office beforehand and requested to be closer in proximity to each other, but we were informed that AI assigns the tents for the best, spread out experience. No worries, it's fairly well lit and you can bring your lights at night to walk around. Check in was simple. We were given a ton of information by everyone at the front desk. The tents are very large with electricity and hot water. The bathroom is very large with a double vanity. There are space heaters and blankets, t though it definitely was quite chilly our last night. There is a free breakfast, or you can pay for some upgraded items. If you're heading out early any day, you can grab items for the next day. All staff members were knowledgeable and friendly. We started lots of conversations and were directed many places we had not intended to go. We grabbed some dinner at their restaurant, and it was delicious! Everyone was satisfied! I have medication which has to be refrigerated, and we were provided with a dorm-size fridge at no extra expense. They came and set it up while we were at dinner. I never felt like my items were unsafe, even though there was no lock on the tents. We indulged in the hot tub one afternoon and took a polar plunge! There are a limited number of day packs to borrow, walking sticks, free firewood and fire starters, and just about anything you need. Our friend's luggage was delayed about 6 hours, and once it arrived at the desk, they carted it over to their tent for them. I really didn't know what to think when we booked this, but now that we are back home, and I am so grateful for this experience! Thank you!

We ordered the crab fritter appetizer and it was really good. I had the scallops and my husband had the boar shank and not were very good. For dessert we had the pistachio semifreddo and again it was also very good. It's a quaint little place with a great view and the food and drinks were top notch. I don't think you can go wrong with anything you order and we will be back when we are in bar harbor again.
