A family-built winery born from a search for community, connection, and a better life for their kids? Honestly... that's kind of beautiful. But what really stayed with me was learning more about the Pleasant Valley Wine Trail collective itself -- 14 wineries genuinely supporting one another while also giving back through scholarship and agricultural education efforts benefiting the local community. THAT is what makes Paso different. The people here still feel connected instead of competitive, and the wineries still feel wonderfully human. And frankly... any winery confident enough to call itself Graveyard Vineyards already deserves points for personality alone. Let me set the scene for you. I have over 12 wine clubs. I have attended a lot of winery dinners. I consider myself something of a connoisseur of the genre. And I am here to tell you that Graveyard Winery just raised the bar so high that everyone else is going to need a ladder. We've been wine club members at Graveyard Vineyards for a while now, so when they announced their German-themed dinner with a portion of proceeds benefiting a local animal shelter during Wine for Paws weekend, we were in. Immediately. No hesitation. Mother Nature had other plans and moved the whole affair indoors, but honestly? A crackling fireplace, warm lighting, and a room full of wine lovers? We were not mad about it. Not even a little. Before dinner, they welcomed us with a tasting and passed hors d'oeuvres that absolutely should have come with a warning label. There was this cheesy bread situation that was dangerously good -- but then came the apple bite with cheese and bacon. I don't know who conjured that up, but it needs to be on a permanent menu somewhere immediately. We were already won over before we even sat down. And then we sat down. And there it was -- a massive, gorgeous sourdough loaf on a wooden cutting board with a big knife, just waiting. My husband did what any reasonable man in that situation would do and started cutting bread for everyone around us. What followed can only be described as a genuine breaking-of-the-bread moment. Strangers became family. It was oddly moving for a sourdough loaf. The chef came out to walk us through the meal, which is always a sign you're in good hands. The appetizer was a smoked trout on rye that was elegant and punchy all at once. Then came the main event -- a pork loin so tender and perfectly executed that I'm pretty sure angels were involved. Nestled on beautiful red potatoes alongside the freshest spring peas I have ever eaten in my life. I'm talking peas that tasted like they were picked that morning. It was stunning. Dessert was a rhubarb and apple pastry -- the filling was absolutely divine and I ate every last bit of it. The pastry itself was slightly on the firmer side for my taste, but when the filling is that good, you forgive everything. The wine was incredible. The food was incredible. And the people we ended up sitting with? Also incredible. That's a rare trifecta. Paso Robles has thousands of wineries. And many are excellent. It is very hard to find the special ones. My husband and I are fortunate enough to go up to this area from our home in San Diego a couple times a year. We ask friends, we research trends, we search online in order to find hidden gems. And Graveyard Vineyards was one of those. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It's a lovely location...[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The wines were excellent and they have live music on Saturday and Sunday. This particular evening they were serving full service buffet style creamed corn, roasted potatoes, coleslaw, hot honey chicken and pork with rolls. Hot honey chicken was moist with a little kick. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The tasting area is a long straight shot down the length of the facility.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The old rustic charm will draw you in to choose some extra goodies.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Double doors open up to the patio area with sporadic concrete landings among the dirt pathways.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The pond is that Dawson's creek you wanna paddle out onto.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]There's a cute sitting area to take it all in and sip slowly.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] It is all dirt road heading up. Plenty of parking space on the grounds. Did a few tastings of Syrah's and chose the 2021 scream for our bottle. The Psycho is also a good choice or the perfect pour tribute wine. Service was hospitable and efficient. They definitely know how to throw a party and take good care of their guests. read more

We brought some Bay Area friends for a tasting here. [[HIGHLIGHT]]They have a beautiful little pond in front of the Tasting Room. Very calm, quiet and beautiful area to taste wine.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We had a really fun wine attendant, Allen who answered all of our questions. When we were ready to leave, both myself and my friend joined their Wine Club. Very reasonable prices for these excellent wines. I am looking forward to bringing more out of town guests here. read more

Stopped here on Sunday at 4:15 pm (they close at 5). And yes there is a cemetery at the entrance. They were really nice and we got to do a tasting outside overlooking their beautiful pond. Tasting fee was $15 (waived with purchase of 2 bottles). They have cute friemdly dogs roaming around. Bottle prices were reasonable and staff was friendly. They didn't kick us out right at 5 which we also appreciated very attentive on coming out to pour when the glasses were empty. read more

A friend recommended this one. I thought it was an odd name for a winery, but it is literally behind and up the hill from the pleasant valley cemetery near Paso Robles. Decent wines, pleasant staff, and lots cute graveyard themed stuff in the tasting room. We especially liked the gruner veltliner which is a varietal you just don't find everywhere. read more

I know that many businesses put something catchy in their About The Business section of the Yelp listing, but the first words of the Graveyard description couldn't be more accurate: Graveyard Vineyards "Come as strangers leave as friends". We were overwhelmed by Paula's hospitality, engaging conversation and inviting personality. WOW! To top it off their wines were very good and they had my favorite wine of 2019. We visited Graveyard twice, once on December 30th and then again on December 31st. We let Paula know that our favorite varietal was Zinfandel and she told us that if we came back on the 31st they'd have a bottle of their Mortal Zin (which is phenomenal BTW) open for us to taste. They were down to having three cases left, so I didn't really expect them to open a bottle for tasting. My wife and I agreed on our favorite wine which was the SCREAM!!! 2017 Paso Robles Blend which I found nicely complex yet smooth and very drinkable. Second for me was the Psycho 2017 Paso Robles Petite Sirah followed closely by the 2017 Syrah and the Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon which came in tied for third. I can't remember feeling more welcome at a winery and Paula did a great job directing is towards wines that appealed to us. Our visit on the 30th was our first to this winery but I will gladly return to Graveyard in the future. To top off the experience we saw an amazing sunset over their pond as our last sunset of 2019. read more

This is a winery that you would like to come back and revisit. We got to try one of their new wines just released that day so it was pretty cool. A little out of the way compared to other wineries in the Paso Robles area, it is definitely worth the drive. Located up the hill from an actual graveyard, it is quite a pretty setting for such a darkly named place. The property itself is very picturesque, including a fishing pond on the premises. It is a smaller place which is exactly how I like it. It allows for a more personable experience and at no point did I feel rushed. Frank served us our wine tastings. They are $10.00 a piece and I believe we tried 7 wines, including a really nice chocolate infused desert wine called "Deliverance" . The tasting fee is waived if you decide to purchase a bottle of wine (buy two bottles, get two fees waived) Frank also ordered many recommendations of other wineries, several of which I had not heard of before. It was a good experience overall. I will say that some of the novelty items are a bit high in price, but the wines seem to be on point. This a fantastic vineyard. Tucked past a graveyard (hence the clever name) we came here over the holiday weekend for a tasting since my sister's boyfriend is a member. DELIVERANCE. This winery is about 15 mins away from Vines RV resort. We had to make reservations for wine tasting(due to covid) but luckily we were able to get a reservation on a Saturday afternoon at 330pm. The surrounding area is beautiful, there is a very large willow tree, a lake and even a small dock you can walk and take pictures on. It was about 113 degrees outside and we decided to sit outside in a shaded table next to an AC unit, which actually worked out great. Viviana was our host and she provided us with lots of education about their wines and grapes and she made our experience an overall great one. I came home with nine bottles of wine! I prefer whites, so we went with the 2019 Chardonnay (stainless steel) , Spanish castle queen, Cold Roses Gerwurstraminer and one bottle of the Ascender Sparkling wine. Visited on a Saturday morning at 11, enjoyed the beautiful view of the lake from a table under the wisteria vines, tasted several of their wines then enjoyed a bottle with a small picnic we brought. Friendly, unpretentious service with very reasonably priced good wines. While there is a graveyard at the base of the road that leads to the winery, there is nothing creepy or spooky about the location or winery. Very family friendly as well as dog friendly.
