I have been coming to gravity for a few years now and I've always had a wonderful experience. Yesterday I got a cut and color from Rose and wow! It was better than I had planned. I showed her a couple of pictures of what I was thinking and she took them and ran! I went from apx elbow length brown hair to shoulder length red and I love it! She explained everything she was doing and why and it made the anxiety ridden process of chopping my hair off much more relaxing. I have been coming here since they opened. I had followed one of the owners, Kara, from another salon. Best service ever! When I enter the salon, I'm greated by the front desk person(s). They have coat check and it's on the honor system. Many of times I wanted to leave my peacoat and take the leather jacket... but I'm too honest. The waiting area has a nice selection of magazines. Good for catching up on celebrity tabloids, travel, exotic luxuries, newest hair styles all the while drinking a cold beverage ;) They have a tv set on E! channel, which is good to catch a few minutes of Kardashians or some other reality tv show. And if you're not into tv or the magazines, they have a fish tank with this abnormally large brown fish. I usually get a cut by Kara so she prefers the wash first where "others" cut, wash, and finishes the cut. After the waiting area, you're brought over to the wash station. The washers are easy to talk to. Very friendly bunch. They shampoo first then give you a scalp massage with conditioner. One of the reasons why I come here instead of Hair Cuttery. And then you're excorted to the stylists station. After the cut, you can get rinsed, put some product in your hair and styled and ready for meeting up with friends without having to go home and shower. Fantastic group of people. Have stayed a couple of times after to hang out. Things to note: Reservations only. But you might be lucky as a walk-in. Call ahead first. Bring the entire family: they service kids, women and men. They accept credit cards but cash tips only. So don't forget to tip washers and stylists. read more

Where to begin...The esthetic and ambiance of this salon are in balance. There really is a buzz to this place. It felt right from the moment I walked in. The waiting area might throw you off at first. It's located toward the back in this layout. There is a nice TV, plenty of magazine too. You are in the center of activity sitting there, as customers and stylists alike cruise by on a continuous basis. Angela Perfetto (aptly named) was recommended to me. I like to find a stylist who takes my relationship with her seriously. Make no mistake, it is a relationship. A good stylist makes you look good. A great stylist makes you feel great too! Angela is great! I went for a new style and needed a little camo applied to my hair. I like my gray, but a little color now and then mixes it up. Angela had to deal with me as a new client, who wanted a new style, and needed color that wouldn't look like a 3rd coat of gloss black marker. She nailed it. The prices are reasonable here. The caliber of talent is unsurpassed. The ambiance is worth the visit. Lastly, ALL the stylists look hotter in person that their web site profiles. And, in real life, their personalities are way cool. I made my next appointment before I left the premises. These people rock. read more

I was in town visiting my sister & she recommended I try out Gravity to get my color touched up. I had a truly great experience with the entire staff of this salon. Everyone I encountered was friendly, welcoming, and accommodating. I had a last-minute conference call that was unfortunately going to cut short my appointment. Michelle G. made sure my color & cut were finished in time, then let me leave the salon (without stopping to pay) to take care of my phone call. We put my hair in a clip and arranged for me to come back 45 minutes later to complete my style & blowout. Not only did she do a great job on my color & cut, she was exceptionally kind and went above & beyond to meet my individual needs that day. I also got a goody bag full of hair product samples and some coupons for my next visit., all for the same price I pay at a medium-level chain salon back home. While there, I also saw a male stylist giving a haircut to a small child (2-3 yrs old) sitting in his dad's lap in the chair next to mine. This stylist was so kind, gentle, and patient with his tiny client, it really warmed my heart. It also made me feel like Michelle and Sam (who did my shampoo) and the awesome receptionist were not the exception, but the norm. I strongly believe in rewarding this level of service, so I hope you'll give Michelle and the rest of the Gravity staff a try. I had 2:30PM appointment today and they called me at 2:11PM and asked, where I was - I said it is at 2:30Pm - I quickly got there at 2:20PM and they said no one can see you. I showed them my calendar on my phone said 2:30PM. Gravity, maybe you should call with confirmation phone call or send email out with the time of appointment, so there is no confusion. The receptionist was snooty and did not solve the problem. I went elsewhere and got a tremendous haircut. Gravity lost a potential customer and is now getting bad press. Come back to earth Gravity - solve the miscommunication problem next time instead of creating a problem. read more

I found Gravity a few months ago, and I am so happy that I did. Now, I am a guy, so I can't speak to hair coloring, or any treatments beyond your traditional cut and styling, but everything I have experienced there has been great. First off, their service is great. From the moment you walk in, you notice that everyone who works there is friendly and personable. Each time I come in, they hang up my jacket, I am offered a drink (I don't know if they offer alcohol, because I always ask for water), and then show me to the waiting area, or they wash my hair. In terms of the quality, my friends and family noticed and were impressed with my new hair style. It looks great, and I was happy with my hair as soon as my stylist was finished. In regard to the price, they do not have the same prices as a national chain, but they are more reasonable than most hair salons that I have been to. Their overall value is excellent. I have been going to Gravity for about 6 months now (maybe longer) and I am so glad I found it! The salon is clean and the staff is welcoming. Evenings are usually very busy there (which in my opinion is a good indication of the great work that they do) so if you prefer it a little quieter you may want to go earlier in the day. I usually make my next appointment right after my haircut because they fill up quickly, but the one or two times I had to schedule last minute they have really been as helpful as they could be. Since they are always so busy I am sure all of the stylists are great, but I am especially thankful for Katie A., who I believe is a gift to earth from the hair gods. I have fine hair and all I've ever wanted is some volume and body. After years of going to many different stylists and salons throughout the city asking for layers that would give my limp hair more life, I had accepted the fact that my hair would always be flat and fine. After moving to the 'burbs, I stumbled upon this salon and they were able to fit me in pretty quickly. I explained to Katie the same thing I had explained to every other stylist - I want some layers that would give me body. After looking at my hair, she told me she was going to do a certain kind of cut that sounded so different from any other cut I'd had before. She explained what she was going to do and how it was different from the layers I currently had. I appreciated her taking the time to talk to me about my hair. I decided to switch from another salon and give Gravity a try after hearing great things. It was a great experience from the start - setting up the appointment over the phone they were attentive and cordial. Same held true when I got there; I think three people asked me if they could get me a beverage. My hair is very straight and can be difficult to handle, but Kara tackled it and delivered like a true Pro. I adore Gravity! Not only is it an oasis of calm and tastefulness on busy Butler Ave in Ambler, it is staffed with the friendliest people on earth!! My one son gets his unruly hair by Brian who is so friendly and great with him when he was younger and now that he is a young teenager. My older son gets his hair cut by Katelyn who is so sweet. Both boys always get amazing haircuts. Joe, owner and head stylist, cuts my hair and I couldn't be happier!!! My husband has heard us rave about Gravity so much that he is thinking of leaving his life long Italian barber who will soon retire and get his hair cut here too! I recently went to visit Gravity Hair Salon in Ambler, PA. The staff is very friendly and accommodating (they have coffee & tea for customers). One of the stylists, Tara, colored my hair to a brilliant brown with caramel highlights. It turned out great! With her knowledge of hair color and products, Tara was able to tell me what products to use (Pureology) to maintain my new haircolor and how to blow dry my hair to not burn it and keep it manageable with less fuss! I was excited to try this salon for the first time so I made an appointment, however when I showed up, I was told that I had been scheduled with a lead stylist, therefore the price was significantly higher than what I had been expecting. No one had mentioned this when I was making the appointment. Total, the time spent with me was about 30-45 minutes, I felt like there wasn't really any attention paid to detail and was really disappointed in the overall professionalism. I guess I was hoping for a better experience as a new client... not planning on returning to this salon. read more

I guess they were having a bad day when I walked in. I was interested in a cut, but wanted to check out the place and stylists first. The stylist I met was nice, but then she introduced me to the head guy who totally blew me off. It made me so uncomfortable, I decided that this wasn't the place for me . it felt as if i didn't meet his snobby criteria. (I was very casually dressed, so maybe I didn't look hip or rich enough). This place is BOMB! I live overseas and have never been able to find a place in America that can do my hair the way I like it until I found Gravity today. I have really dark hair that I dye blonde, I'm really particular about it but after my appointment today it looks perfect!!! There are no awkward lines, its blended into my roots, and theres no orange! Steph is so nice and she really listened to me about what I wanted. I cant believe how good it turned out. I have tried so many other salons in the area but this is the only one I would recommend. The actual salon is really relaxing to be in as well, there's a lot of light and I had a very enjoyable overall experience. I even got some complimentary tea. Today was my first visit to Gravity in Ambler. It was wonderful. I was greeted warmly and directed to a waiting area. My new stylist Michelle introduced herself seconds later and discussed options for my hair style. After a great wash I was seated for my cut. Michelle is adorable but more importantly she is an accomplished beautician. She achieved everything I requested. I will be returning in 6 weeks for color and cut. Came here to get color correction done after I (foolishly) got a cut and color while away on vacation. My root color was way too dark and didn't look natural. Lu corrected my root color, matching it to my natural shade perfectly, and making sure it blended well. It's a little pricy side, but definitely worth the color correction and cut. read more

They always leave his chair looking good and feeling happy about the service. I know a friend who had some highlights done at Shear Supreme, and she had to go to Gravity Salon to have them fixed. She didn't feel at all comfortable going back to Shear Supreme. Her hair literally had stripes in it that looked terrible. Gravity made her look "normal" once again. read more

I recently moved to the area and decided to give the salon a try after reading the positive reviews--Lu was my stylist for my cut and color. I didn't find Lu to be very personable, but perhaps she was having a bad day, who knows... I had just wanted color and a cut, but unbeknownst to me she ended up doing highlights as well--so it was more expensive and caused (the normal) damage to my hair that highlighting does, which I was trying to avoid. She also--and I don't know about you, but this annoys the crap out of me--asked me to fold and hand her tin foil during the color. Of course I didn't say no (she has the fate of my hair in her hands!), but um, no. I want to relax when I'm getting my hair done, maybe read a magazine, etc, what I don't want to do is spend my time helping you with your job, that's why I'm paying you! I also didn't like the cut, there were some choppy pieces that didn't sit properly. Perhaps the other stylists are great, perhaps she was just having an off day, and eh, hair grows back, so it's not the end of the world, but I wouldn't go back either. read more

I recently relocated to the area from California. After reading the reviews I booked appointments for me and my children. I got color (blonde, which needed a little correction to tame the warm tones), and my children 10, 10 and 8 all got cuts. I could not be more thrilled to find such an amazing place filled with talent! Joe did my color, and I walked out more than pleased with the results. He took a lot of time with me, and really wanted to be sure that I ended up with what I wanted. He was spot on! My children all got amazing cuts, my youngest daughter with a short bob, my eldest daughter with a nice sharp long hair cut and my son with something that suited his style! I will definitely be back! The staff are very nice and the stylists are fine, but the prices for color and cut are very high. I have medium length hair and only required a color touch up and trim which cost me close to $285. It is not that I don't think the colorists and stylists are unskilled--it's just the price was a bit much for the service. I was there for 2.5 hours which would mean I paid $80+/hour. read more

I think the staff is friendly and accommodating. The cuts and color on the other hand, not so much. Over the course of a few years, most recently a few months ago, I went to three different stylists. The first time I went I had my hair cut and colored by one of the owners. It was ok. Color was fine but the cut was uninspiring. The second time I went was about 2 years later and it was after a bad experience where my hair had been colored red. I wanted the stylist to get the red out and get as close to blonde as possible. Unfortunately, I got orange. Red can be tricky -- I get that -- but she probably could have done better. Her haircut was good ... she was very precise and really took her time. Last time I went -- two months ago -- I went to a third stylist who did a good color but a bad haircut. This stylist was really overbooked and just did not take her time with clients. It felt like an assembly line and instead of a head, you had a dollar sign in its place. It was all about getting the clients in and out of the chair as quickly as possible. She also pushed products really hard. This salon really has its fan base, but I think you can do much, much better. Prices are probably more reasonable than Center City, but I don't think you have the same talent. Would like to give my business to Ambler since I live in the local community, but $200+ for a haircut and a color I could probably get at the Hair Cuttery is just not worth it. read more

Love my haircut!! I tried their Plymouth Meeting location and got AMANDA. She is AMAZING! I was there for my hair cut and soon as I stepped, I just loved the vibe there, everyone was SO friendly and greeted me with such great pleasure. Amanda then took me in for my hair cut and was so friendly, sweet and just very lively AND she gave me GREAT tips on my hair type and most importantly I had the BEST hair cut in years (Btw, I am VERY picky with my hair cuts and styling). She understands hair textures and know how to work with it, as my hair is dark black, thick and non-manageable frizzy and I did not want to take a lot of length off but still wanted a lot of layers with bounce (picky right?!!). I started going to Gravity Salon back in December because a friend highly recommended it to my sister who had awesome experiences and then highly recommended it to me. I've had horrible haircuts every now and then up until that point and have always dreaded my next hair appointment, but I was really excited for my first Gravity experience. I've seen Angela a few times and she does an awesome job on my hair. She's encouraged me to go from my boring center part to parting it on the side, giving me a more stylish look, which I've used ever since. She also flat irons my hair (it's thick and naturally curly/wavy) and it stays super straight for a couple of days until I wash it again. The salon itself is really clean and modern and the staff is super nice. I love the head massage that comes with the wash. They offer tea/coffee/water as well. Although I've only been to Angela, I've seen the other stylists in action and wouldn't hesitate to have any of them cut my hair, too. read more

Today was my first time at Gravity. All the employees are super friendly, I was greeted right away and offered a beverage. They were really busy but I didn't have to wait long. My stylist was Billi-Jo and she was so amazing. Friendly and pleasant, she listened to what I wanted and really made me feel like her priority even though the place was busy. I brought in pictures to show her what I wanted. She hit it dead on the mark if not more so. She really took her time to make sure the cut was perfect. Overall I'm extremely happy, best hair cut I've ever receieved! And pricing was extremely reasonable. I will definitely return here for my future haircuts. read more

I recently made my first appointment with Gravity at the Ambler location. I was lucky enough to be scheduled with Kyme who couldn't do enough to make sure i was pleased with my color. She was very attentive and patient and she really listened to me before doing a wonderful job to achieve the right look. The salon is located in downtown Ambler directly across from a municipal parking lot. The only mistake I made was not bringing enough quarters for the meter so I found myself watching the clock to avoid getting ticketed. Everything else there was wonderful including the hot beverage they offered me upon arrival. All the people there are extremely friendly and personable. They even provide a chair and blow dryer if you prefer to dry and style your own hair. I don't think I have ever been in a friendlier or more down to earth salon. I can't believe that this place has always been right around the corner but I am thankful to have found it now. I will definitely be going back. read more
