I just got 30,000-mile maintenance and inspection (not a trivial service) on my 2021 Toyota Avalon Limited from the nearby Cottonwood Shores Grease Monkey. The good news is that the staff was very nice, friendly and easy to work with; there's a comfortable waiting area, and the work was completed when promised. My wife has used them for periodic oil changes with no problem, and I've used them for other work in the past, usually satisfied. The less good) news is that there was a bit of upsell pressure for optional $200+ fuel injector service (not a terrible thing; we're capitalists after all), and their overall prices were significantly higher than my alternative well-established repair shop 15 minutes away in Marble Falls. (I didn't know that at the time, and went to Grease Monkey for convenience.) The cost was still far less than what a Toyota dealer would have charged, and they upsell too! A couple of examples: The charge for changing the transmission fluid, including the fluid itself, was $512 (including tax). In Marble Falls the total would have been in the high $300s, including their most expensive fluid. Grease Monkey told me that my tires were badly worn and cupping, with a fairly fresh cut in one that exposed the steel belt. See photo they sent.) I don't recall hitting anything that would have cut a premium tire that badly, but it was an important safety inspection find. They strongly recommended (and I agree) replacing the front two for just under $440 per tire (same premium tire, installed, including tax), and recommended a road hazard guarantee for an additional 17%, which would have brought the total to about $500 per tire. (Every tire I've ever bought comes with a road hazard guarantee included, but theirs might have been a little more comprehensive.) I declined. The cost of exactly the same tire from the Marble Falls shop (installed, including tax) is just under $331 per tire (without the road hazard upsell). Interesting side note: There was a very cool unfinished 1941Chevy pickup hot rod in the storage yard, and I think I saw classic Chrysler Imperial tailfins sticking out farther down the row. read more

This establishment is what happens when private equity comes in and buys auto shops and standardizes the payment system. Had truck towed there for power steering failure, upon diagnosis they found a bad hose, was quoted at $800+ dollars. (Remind you that I paid $650 to replace the whole power steering pump a year prior at a different shop with a motocraft part) The extra money was for a "power steering flush and bleed". Had no choice, so after repairs I showed up and the hose was replaced, but the wheels still wouldn't turn all the way to the left and right, and system groaned. Power steering was drivable unlike before, but they suspected a bad pump. The negotiation to get the price down was painful, even though the hose was replaced, the system was still not fully effective, and I questioned the high price of the job. Walked out at $550 and still have to take it to another shop. This place cares more about making money to affect the bottom line than they do taking care of customers. Go take it to a reputable mom and pop shop. Now that my vehicle is drivable, I will source other options. Also, truck is still dripping power steering fluid, hopefully from a dirty job, and not an additional leak. read more

My husband and I went to grease monkey for the first time after my family said they always did right by them. We decided to give them a shot considering it was oil change, nothing else. They were friendly and we didn't even mind waiting over an hour and a half for a simple oil change. The problem is they decided to put striped screws back or 1 out of the 2. When I called to get the skid plate bolted back, they didn't deny or accept responsibility. The man who answered the phone said he would talk to the tech and call me back. I went up there the next day and he said he was waiting on a woman to order the screws. Again said he would call me, it's been well over a week and I've heard nothing. This is none of the most unprofessional auto shops. read more

I made an appointment for an oil change at Grease Monkey for 1:30 PM today. I showed up right on time. I checked in and gave the lady behind the counter my keys. After two hours I was finally told my oil change was complete. I would not have been happy if I had been a drop in. But having made an appointment I am the best I could possibly you have as one star on that point. I had received a postcard in the mail with a coupon saying and oil change for $24.99 - approximately $25. Check out their invoice attached. They charged me closer to $55 - more than double. (Now i must be completely candid and mention they told me i should use the oil recommended by the manufacturer. And they charged me for 6 quarts. I have changed the oil many times myself and never required more than 5 quarts. Again, when i questioned about this , "that is what it takes". Plus, they charged me $1.76 for shop supplies. Took my car in for an alignment, I was quoted 70ish to check and see if it needed parts or an alignment and another 200ish if it needed an alignment. After leaving my car and having the alignment done it turns out the alignment was done at O'Malley Tire & Automotive. O'Malley Tire only charges 160 for an alignment and nothing to check it out. Completely different answer than you gave to my google review. So it was 80ish for check out then 200ish for the alignment just as I said on google. You said no to that on google. So why did you decide to be honest on yelp? Being dishonest will cost you your business and you will deserve it. Because if your cheating on this your cheating on other if not all. This is not my first car nor my first alignment but my first time dealing with your shady business. On February 21st, an "engine overheating" message popped up on my car. I immediately took it in, to which y'all stated it was the fan motor failing intermittently. I paid you $3,000 to replace the radiator, the fan, the thermostat, and a coolant flush. Was told it would be done by February 23rd. March 1st, after ME having to message and call you guys consistently, it was finally done. I drive it 10 minutes down the road, from your shop, to which the message pops back up. March 4th, it is back in your shop. March 7th, I finally received an answer, stating I needed a whole new engine. To which, I was fed up with the lack of caring from Grease Monkey, and took into Elite Automotive who took excellent care of me, with a new engine, $3K less of what you were going to charge me. My car is back in yalls shop as of Thursday, May 23rd because the fan YOU replaced, is failing again. A week later, now Friday May 31st, still haven't received my car and am also having to ask you for any updates. Y'all are a scam and joke. read more

Grease Monkeys owner and service manager are crooks. They tried to tell me I needed a new engine 3 weeks after I took it in for a miss fire. 8 thousand dollars total. I had it towed to another shop and replaced plugs and wires and the miss fire was fixed. It cost less than 600$ parts and labor. DO NOT take your vehicles there. read more

I had taken my older Jeep there for some work. The whole issue was that I made an appointment for a Wednesday b/c of my work schedule that week could only afford me that time to get it there. When I called and check on it, they said that they couldn't see it until Friday. That was unacceptable. The "service manager" argued with me about the scheduled appointment time. I later found out that they did not have mechanics and they just moved everyone's appointment. When I asked to speak to the owner. The owner took this issue to a new level. I got an email stating that my Jeep had the wrong parts and they were incorrectly installed so it didn't matter anyway. To prove my point, I got the Jeep Dealer to send over the parts list and corrected the action that was taken, and show that it was installed correctly with the correct parts. I never heard back from them. There are too many other guys looking to help out. I won't be going back. read more

I got a message from Ken at Grease Monkey in Cottonwood Shores that he would give a good price for an oil change for being a first time customer there. He said I would also get my car vacuumed, tire pressure checked, fluids filled and something else. I went there for my appointment and waited in the waiting area and I was there for almost two hours, so I was thinking they were doing a good job. But when I was on the way home I noticed that my fluids had not been filled because I tried to use the windshield wipers to clean the windshield and there was no fluid in it. Then when I stopped I also noticed the car wasn't vacuumed. I called Grease Monkey and left a message and told them that four things weren't done when I was there. Kristal called me back and said I could come back in another day and get everything done that wasn't done when I was there. I don't live near Grease Monkey and it takes a lot of gas to go there and back. I went in again and was told that everything was completed. I just tried to use my washer wipers a few minutes ago and it's still empty and I noticed that they also didn't vacuum my car. I'm so upset because I don't know if they even changed the oil or did anything to my car. I will never go there again and I don't recommend this business. I don't trust them because I was lied to about everything and now it's costing me more money because I have to go to the auto parts store and buy some washer wiper fluid myself and have someone put it in my car. I also have to go to the car wash and vacuum my car and that also costs money. If there was a zero that's what I would rate them for putting me through so much trouble and time wasted. read more

I had a nightmare of a problem with transporting my van from Buchanan Dam to Kerrville, both towns of Texas, after $400 from a creep that offered his help, kept the money, forced me to go to Pflugerville with him, & dumped my little dog & me at a 7-11, in Pflugerville with $2 to my name. I later had the van towed to Alan's Wrench where it sat for 20 days due to lack of funds. When I talked to Ken, he was so sympathetic & thoughtful & he waived the storage fees. I brought my van to Alan's with a radiator leak . Told them it would dump a good amount of anti freeze was a intermittent issue . I also told them it was leaking we're line connected from transmission on radiator . Mechanic took it in the back said there wasn't a radiator leak was my power steering line ???? They scheduled it to be changed . For somewhere around $380.00 . The radiator started leaking I drove it there and showed owner . They took it in the back and pressure tested it . Something I would have assumed they did the first time . Now the radiator needed to be replaced cost around 900 . The power steering hose magically repaired itself is still on the van . The power steering line has no leak it's also a easy change 380$$ The guy in the back ether sucks or this is how they operate . I also have a back ground in equipment repair welding hydraulics etc .
