It's a cute place with a huge menu. It's not great for groups because they won't split the check. Otherwise, everyone enjoyed the food and the beer. The waiter was fabulous!
Sassafras was a pleasant surprise. As a vegan, I was happy to find a vegan burger on the menu, and it was actually really good. What impressed me even more was how large and creative the overall menu was, with plenty of interesting options for non-vegans as well. The atmosphere is charming, with an inviting, whimsical decor The service was excellent throughout our visit. Friendly, attentive, and welcoming. Between the unique ambiance, thoughtful menu, and great service, Sassafras is definitely worth a visit.
We had wanted to stop by Sassafras for a while, and we finally had the opportunity to do so. It was really good and very reasonably priced. Here is what we liked: - Massive menu with lots of choices, including two pages of specials - We didn't drink that night, but we liked that there were a lot of beers on tap - My wife and I split both the Grinder sandwich and the Cheese Curd Burger. We liked that you get to pick a side with each sandwich/burger...the blue cheese slaw was excellent, and the homemade potato chips were the bomb too. My burger was a little overcooked, but we enjoyed both our meals. Our daughter had the Praline Bacon Burger, which she really enjoyed. - Vibe inside is a little funky...I wouldn't describe it as cozy, but it was fine. - Service was very good. Bottom line: We would go back to Sassafras for sure next time we're in the area!
Today this was a quick stop between appointments for me and my dad. The restaurant had soft music playing and the noise from the other tables was low. Our server was friendly and helpful with my allergies and our time restrictions. My dad and I settled on ordering the nachos with chicken and no peppers or onions (I'm allergic). The nachos came out quickly, hot, and plentiful. The beans and the chicken on the nachos were seasoned beautifully. My dad said the salsas served with the nachos were a very spicy and caution them to be used in moderation. Sassafras is always delicious and welcoming. I can't wait for my next meal at Sassafras.

We ordered food to go because we wanted to go have a beer at Shoe Tree Brewing. It took a bit to get an order in, but we worked with Collin's and he was super helpful! In fact, I was expecting a call to go get my food from Shoe Tree but he was kind enough to deliver it! Was a nice guy! Thank you, Collin's. The food was pretty good! Shrimp tacos hit the spot and we ordered deep fried cheesy grits, which were so good! I would order those again if I went to Shoe Tree, but I do want to try other food.
This was my very first time at Sassafras. Just don't go to Carson City that often. You'd think it was really far away ... it's not! Anway, Nancy V and I went for our monthly luncheon. She's been there before. Very impressed with the food. I had a Lamb Burger on which they added this tzatiki style slaw which made the burger even more special. Then it came with a side and I order the Thai slaw (I like cabbage). I also enjoyed Lavender Lemonade. But it was way too much to eat, so I'll have the slaw today for lunch at home. Nancy loved her Sand Dab Fishwich with which she ordered their homemade French Fries. And yes you can really tell a frozen potato from fresh. They were wonderful. But again, too much to eat. Their serving sizes are generous. Easy to share a lunch. On our next visit we plan to share an appetizer and a salad. I say next, because there is so much on this eclectic menu that I want to try. They do have a full bar. Use your GPS to find this location. It's kinda of in a Business area, near the local Pool. But it's worth looking for.

Lately we have been timing our travels through Carson City so that we can have dinner at Sassafras. What an AMAZING restaurant. The variety of entrees, beers and ciders on tap etc... is great. There is so much on the menu that I actually want to try. This last trip we decided on two of the specials. One was a bone in pork chop with an apple and blue cheese compote served with a fancy potatoes au gratin. The other was a New York steak served over French fries with a blue cheese fondue. Both were delicious! For a starter we always choose the eviled eggs. We were too full this last time to have dessert. On a previous trip I had an ahi sandwich which I ordered with the home made potato chips. They were great. You owe it to yourself to try this place out.

This place reminds me of a German/ Bavarian place. Heavy woods, dark drapes and a diverse amount of decoration. The menu is vast. In addition several specials were offered. Our waitress Michelle, was well versed in each offering. We chose the bologna burger. A huge chub of bologna served on a bun. Also the polenta with low country gravy. The servings were huge and delicious. This place is a must try.
Dropped in on a Saturday night and was sat quickly. They offer a wide variety of options, great place for groups. I opted for the burger with a side of fries. Burger was HUGE, ranch was killer! Large parking lot.

The salmon had perfect seasoning and cooked perfectly. My husband had salmon tacos with rice and beans. Idk what's in that rice but it's the best rice I've ever had and I've had a lot of rice.

It's been crazy busy, and my partner and I have dined at Sassafras definitely within the last 5 months, and we have generally stuck with our normal Okonomiyaki order. My last visit to Sassafras was with a group of friends at the end of July. One friend ordered the amazingly tasty Shrimp Louie Salad, a couple others ordered Caesar Salads, and I had the Okonomiyaki . All the food was fresh and amazingly delicious. And the friends that tried my Oki all loved it and will be ordering it on their next visit. Service was super friendly and the restaurant couldn't be cuter or more welcoming. We'll definitely be back soon. read more

Yelped for a good starred place to eat that was near us. I found this gem w/ a quick focused search. It hit the spot! SO HAPPY WE STOPPED IN HERE! Place had a lot of character. One side was the bar-- where you entered from. The right side had tables. I ordered the Sand Dab Fish Sandwich and my husband had the Sand Dab Lemon Caper. WOW. Super recommend if you're on the fence or haven't found a helpful review. Don't leave Carson City without trying this place. Thank me later. (Follow me for the best recommendations!!) read more

Leaned on Yelp for a lunch recommendation and Sassafras popped to the top. Funky decor plus a nice looking menu. We chose Evil eggs for an app. Deviled eggs plus jicama and shrimp topping. Then a salad that was large and fresh. Then perfectly savory black bean soup. Then fish and chips. We just couldn't stop ordering. Our server just laughed. She checked back just when we needed something. We really enjoyed each item except the fish and chips. Very small pieces of fish and too much batter. It was crispy and flavorful but the fish was in short supply for my taste. The blue cheese coleslaw is genius. So incredibly delicious I want more. We will definitely visit Sassafras next time we visit Carson City. There are many great options on the menu that we want to try. Give them a taste as soon as possible. read more
This isca solid 4. The atmosphere is eclectic and toned down. Our server Erin was pleasant and knowledgeable about the menu. I had the Asian Vegi Bowl with brown rice and was a solid, until I added the sriracha. That took it to a 5 and I polished it off. My wife had the Thi Chicken Salad that was to spicie for her. I have already done two different reviews on this establishment. But we recently visited again last weekend and felt I needed to update it because Sassafras is just such an amazing place to eat. Not only is it vibrant when you walk in. But the staff is so friendly and accommodating, and the waitress that we always seem to have always remembers what we like. She always remembers that I'm trying to work my way through the menu LOL, and often suggests things to try. Well, this particular visit she suggested I try something that one of the cooks had come up with. They were chicken tacos. I cannot honestly remember what flavors were in them, but it was kind of like a fusion type meal. It wasn't a traditional Mexican style taco, but it was chicken with Mexican style cheese and if you look at the picture that I post you can see it was so well put together. It was served with black beans and rice. It was absolutely an amazing meal and I highly suggest. You try it when you go in there. Sassafras has such a great vibe that I can't recommend it high enough for people to go visit. My wife and I have become regulars and plan to keep coming here as long as they keep serving up great food in this great service cause I can't speak enough about it . Overwhelmed by the great variety of items on the menu (including the specials!) but settled on the cheese curd burger. An outstanding burger - juicy & flavorful, with a nice layer of griddled cheese. Opted for the bleu cheese slaw for my side, which was a very generous serving redolent with plenty of bleu bite. A great lunch in an interesting space! read more

We had a large group visit today on a Tuesday at lunch and h had to post more pics of all the interesting dishes ! I want in love with my chicken tacos special because they were too blackened (maybe less blackening and more salsa and skip the peanuts?), but I tried others dishes and they were yummy! read more

How I've lived in Northern Nevada for 15 years and never knew about this place is beyond me! I freaking love it! Tucked in an inconspicuous location I stumbled upon this little gem on accident: I was heading to the hot springs. Bonus: it's two blocks from my work!! Upon entering I was greeted by Adam, who was very pleasant and all around cheery. Lulu was my server, very nice and knowledgeable. She helped me decided on what I was going to have and she did not disappoint! I came in during lunch and it was pretty quiet, with sounds from the 80s playing in the background. The place has a Rocky Horror Picture Show vibe to it. Eccentric.... Very much to my liking. I had the Smoked turkey sandwich with homemade potato chips. OMG! So freaking delicious!!! And the chips....i absolutely loved them. The portions were big! The lavender lemonade was okay. A little too syrupy for my taste. All in all I loved this place. I can see me going often. In fact, I had to go the next day for dinner! Popped in with a friend after soaking in the hot springs and decided to have the Fish n, Chips. It was fantastic, light and crunchy! All their sauces and condiments are homemade (except mayo and mustard). I loved their ketchup! The meal came with coleslaw but I was a little thrown off by the blue cheese in it. I love me some blue cheese but it just didn't seem right in coleslaw. It was eclectic, that's for sure . Again the portions were huge. I was pretty impressed with how crisp the fish was as it was gluten free. I ordered a Coke and was happy to get it in a bottle. My friend got the Pulled Pork sandwich. Place has an ok vibe. Staff was attentive. Now let's get to the taste buds. I ordered the VooDoo Blackened Chicken Caesar Salad. The chicken was extremely dry and the dressing was runny and didn't even come close to resembling Caesar. My family (13 of us) ate here over the weekend for a birthday party and the waiter (Kevin) was great. He was attentive, funny, and helpful with questions on the menu. There are a lot of different options on the menu from the vegetarian to the meat eater. My kids shared the stir fry with tofu and loved the sauce on it and I had the falafel salad. I think next time I'll try the blackened salmon because my aunt and grandmother both really enjoyed it and it looked delicious. The portions were quite big also, nice to have some left overs. There was an extra charge to cut the cake for us but Kevin told us about that prior and we were fine paying that. Glad to have tried a new place and really enjoyed ourselves! You can sit at the bar, high tables, booths, and lower tables. read more

I've been visiting Carson City, Nevada for almost 20 years now and never new about this place until now. The customer service is the best. The atmosphere, ambiance, and decorations are unique. The food although a little pricy, it's incredible. Huge portions and incredibly tasty. I went here for lunch this last Friday and ordered the Blue Chicken Salad and a diet soda. The salad came in a monster bowl, and it was delicious! Plenty of free refills on the soda. If you happen to be visiting Carson City, you have to visit this place. read more
Mathias was our server, he shared the delicious sounding specials before we made our choices. We come here for the bologna sandwich and the steak salad but today we tried new stuff. The energy of this place is why we love it most. It's so welcoming and lively , the decor is bright fun and festive. The sandwiches were served hot delicious and packed with great ingredients. The torta had the juiciest carnitas with a yummy tomatillo salsa. The mc rib sandwich was also piled high. This place is a Carson "must try" the people here are rad and the food ECLECTIC love , love , love!! read more
