I've been looking all over Santa Cruz county for an affordable haircut spot and I gotta say, Great Clips may just be up there in delivering a solid product. I worked with Lisa who was the absolute sweetest. She was charming and made sure the cut I got was what I wanted. I don't usually ask for much with my hair nowadays, but she made me feel comfortable and even recommended saving my measurements and needs in the Great Clips app so they can know for next time. My haircut was done within 15 minutes so just enough time to get it trimmed, inspected, and to give the seal of approval. Shop wise - it was very bright, clean, and played some good music as well. I've gotten my hair cut many times over the past 10-years, and all of them were good to excellent. And during that time I learned which employees did the best jobs, and I always selected those individuals. However, over the past year, I got 2 haircuts from this location that were poor to absolutely terrible. The terrible one, that I got about a year ago, did not meet any of the hair-cutting standards that Great Clips employees were taught. My hair length was cut at 2 1/2-inches on one side of my head, while the other side was only 3/4ths of an inch. The managers couldn't believe how badly it was cut when I came in to get it fixed. For my recent cut, I didn't recognize any of the employees in the shop (due to a large staff turn-over?) I asked for the only employee that I recognized to cut my hair. The cut looked good from the front and the rear. However, during the next morning when I ran my fingers through my hair, I found out that while the hair length was 2-inches long all around my head, the hair length on the crown of my hair abruptly jumped to 4-inches long. It looked as though the cutter had failed to complete the job to cut all the hair to the requested 2-inches. Rather than risk accepting a snide-sounding phone offer from someone at this Great Clips, I chose to have my wife even out my hair. I don't blame the Great Clips Corp. for the drop in quality in the haircuts given at this Capitola location. But, from now on, I will be getting my hair cuts from different Santa Cruz County locations. read more

This review is for Trisky, the wonderful stylist who cut my hair the way I asked her to. Also, she was fine with wearing a mask to protect me from a potential virus exposure. The stylist who was first going to trim my hair refused to wear a mask. That's certainly her prerogative, but it showed selfishness and an extreme lack of compassion. I'll return to Great Clips, but only when a stylist, such as Trisky, is available who'll simply wear a mask for ten minutes. This was very upsetting as he only has dandruff, which was confirmed by another salon that cut his hair without issue. We felt dismissed. I've been to this place several times but I really never cared much about the style of my hair. I went there because it was convenient and settled for whatever I got. My last visit was awful. My haircut took about five minutes and was apparently done. I left a 50% tip, but I realized after I got home, I had to ask a friend to trim my hair and get rid of the long clumps of hair that were randomly left behind all over. For some reason I stayed and paid the full price as it's still economical and got a very mediocre haircut where she pulled my hair in the clip several times, hit me in the eyes with hair as she went to cut another section it's still a bit uneven. I went to Great clips this morning to get my hair trimmed. I showed the woman how much to trim off which was maybe an inch now mind you my hair was down to my bottom. She started to come my hair and caused a big knot and proceeded to take her scissors and cut off about 41/2- 5 inches. I told her that she cut to mich off and she told me that it was ok and I told her no it wasn't. I am 64 and have never had such a horrible hair cut. strongly do not recommend ! Not a disabled adult friendly environment ! Took one of my Elderly Down syndrome Clients in for a standard hair cut . Stylist Mayra Alexis Hernández was very rude and agressive when checking out my client and asking for a tip . leaving tip is understandable but my client has free will and chose not to leave a tip. Also when we asked for the receipt she agressivly handed it towards us in anger . My Client picked up on her animosity and had an emotional breakdown while leaving the appointment. Came by with our 95 year old friend that had not had neither a shampoo nor cut in almost a year. Stylist (I wish that I asked her name) was extremely patient, as Marge move very very slowly. Everything got wet (even with a towel roll because Marge cannot arch her neck back in the shampoo sink), but the stylist was still patient. She could have done 2 customers in the time it took to do Marge, but she was patient and professional. Marge's hair looked great afterwards - and her spirit was lifted for days afterwards (particularly when she received various compliments). People complain about having to wait ........it's because the place is popular. The wait time is posted right up front for those who need to make decisions, so they should not berate the stylists for that element. Great Clips made Marge very very happy.....and I wanted everyone to be aware of that. read more

2 stylists worked on my daughter's long hair. She has long, medium-textured hair with a bit of wave (not very difficult to deal with). She asked for long layers and a few inches taken off. The first stylist was apparently brand-new: this person cut a large chunk of hair off of the back of her hair, then became flustered and left in tears. The second stylist did not fix the problem at all, and did not communicate to me what had happened. My daughter was traumatized and did not want anyone else touching her hair from Great Clips. I brought her 2 days later to another (trusted) establishment to have it fixed. I asked for a full refund from Great Clips and they gave it to me. I walked in here without an appointment and they attended us in less than 15 min. Lisa was absolutely amazing! She cut my 3 year old sons hair and was an angel with him! She knows how to speak to toddlers in a way that makes them feel safe and excited. Not only did she do a great cut for him but she was very calm and sweet with him, talking him through everything so he wasn't afraid. My son has been fearful of getting a haircut for so long from a previous experience and refused every time we went in to have it cut. This time he responded by getting in the chair when he met Lisa and sat still the whole time. He was so happy and proud of his hair afterwards! We will be returning again to visit her.
