I have taken my toddler son twice to this location. The first time we asked the hairstylist to keep his hair long and ONLY trim. Unfortunately he left the salon with much much shorter hair. I didn't complain at that time because I assumed that maybe I just didn't explain it right. This second time, a blonde lady with curly hair pony tail cut his hair. I was so livid that I didn't even get her name. My husband clearly explained what we wanted, and then again, he had a VERY short hair cut. It was so upsetting to see that she did not bother to follow the specific instructions we wanted for my son. She instead chose to get scissor happy and do her own thing. It's frustrating that we pay for the professionals to do their job yet the simple task of following what we ask can't be done. Dear Great Clips Management, you need to work on the training level of your people unless you don't care about truly serving the public! I will never return to this establishment after my last haircut in September, which was performed by a new person I was told. After going back twice to get it fixed, and the last two stylists stating that they had done a lot of haircuts, they didn't. The last person I saw (all female) told me to just let it grow out! I've been to Great Clips at this location numerous times and this was the worst haircut I've ever experienced there. I don't usually have this issue. It wasn't anything different than what I usually get there. I even asked the girl if she's done this haircut before. I showed her several photos of what I wanted. The last women who cut my hair there several months ago was able to achieve what I wanted. She assured me that she's used to this cut. It's just a basic reverse bob. Moderately stacked in back. I showed her how short I wanted it at the nape of my neck, as well as the sides. Since I wear glasses and am told to take them off, I have no idea how short she's cutting. Anyway, when she was done, I have to say I was a bit shocked at the shape and how short it was. I had specifically stated that I wanted the sides cut BELOW my jawline and to BE that length when it's dry. Well, that didn't happen. After it dried and was styled a bit, it barely skims my jawline. The back is even worse! Way too short and blunt along the bottom. I don't see the "stacked" layered look that I usually get when I have them cut my hair in this style. I should have suspected something when I noticed how long it was taking her to make that first cut in back. And when she finally did, it was just different than what other stylists have done. Can't explain it. I should have thought twice about letting her continue and asked for someone else to finish the cut. I realize that my hair will grow back eventually. All I'm saying is that she needs to get some more instruction on how to cut this particular hairdo. I wish I had waited and gone to the woman there who had a similar cut, herself. At least she would have some knowledge of what I wanted. I'm going to think twice about going to Great Clips again. It might just be time for me to dish out more money and find someone who can achieve the look I want. read more

We took our two teenage boys to get haircuts for "back to school". One of the stylists refused to cut our 13 yr. old's hair because she said he had lice. While he does have dry scalp and dandruff, he certainly did not have lice. Clearly she didn't know what to look for or where to check for infection. We ended up going to Super Cuts across the street and the stylist there went through his hair with a fine tooth comb and assured us that they were wrong. This is the second time this has happened at this establishment - and is very embarrassing when the place is filled with patrons. Needless to say, we won't be going back. IN RESPONSE TO RAYS COMMENT BELOW: I have no issue with your policy or that of the State Board. In fact I appreciate that as a customer. My issue is with your stylists capability in determining what is lice or an infection. Clearly they need better training in this area, as in our case, they've been wrong not once, but twice now with regards to our son. RAY - the franchisee has worked to correct this issue. He just washed his hair last night and didn't wash the Shampoo out all the way. I explained and asked if she could cut without that. she refused to cut his hair because of "build up" in his hair. Devon is a great stylist, and although my hair is uncomplicated, she takes her time to ensure that I'm satisfied. The haircuts she gives are always done well, and there is always relaxed, pleasant conversation that never feels forced. This is really important to me. I would rather let the conversation happen naturally than have somebody breathing down my neck with questions and comments about my mother, where I go to school, ect... Thanks Devon, you have quickly become my go-to-girl for haircuts in the Santa Cruz area. She also cuts my girlfriend's hair and she is really happy as well. Please don't do me like my last stylist and go on and move away! Store: facilities are clean and they have a WIDE variety of products that are consistently on sale. One time I went to a Great Clips location in San Jose although the customer service was DEPLORABLE. It's a shame that Capitola Mall hasn't been renovated in such a long time; if it was, maybe the Capitola Great Clips and all the other stores for that matter would get some much needed business. Michelle was great! She didn't hassle me about my over-fried hair and made sure my bangs were as thick and long as I wanted. She checked out my hair and asked what kind of cut I wanted before washing, which I thought was great since my hair can be deceiving when wet. I got here right after they opened and apparently with good timing, as three people came in right after. I would have given 5 stars but the other chick was not friendly and kind of rude to a person on the phone. I waited weeks to write this review to see if I would still be upset and unfortunately, I am. Although the staff was very nice and they gave my son a balloon afterward, my sons hair was absolutely butchered. I showed the stylist a picture of my son's first haircut that we had gotten previously a couple months before. And I expressed how I really liked it longer in the front. Within the first snip she had already gone incredibly short. I figured there was no turning back so I let her continue. She cut 3 separate lengths in the back that did not blend at all. Instead of working with his curly hair she snipped it shorter on top so now his hair stands up all over in the back. I left almost in tears. And paid 15 dollars to be incredibly disappointed. Will definitely not be returning here again. There's a barber shop in los gatos that charges 10$ and does an amazing job for little boys hair and they do it in even less time read more

So today around 9:30 we came in to get our sons hair done for our daughter's birthday party, the wait time was less than 5 minutes and the customer service was great however, we left unsatisfied because our son had some bald spots and I was too annoyed to speak up as I should have. So we went somewhere else to get it fixed. I left and went onto Yelp and made a review about how unhappy I was, shortly after the manager of Great Clips (Lisa) private messaged me and apologized and told me if I wanted to come back in so she could check it out and fix it I could. She was very professional and friendly and apologized for what had happened even though it wasn't her fault. Then shortly after that the franchisee (Ray) messaged me and apologized and informed me I should come back to Lisa for future hair cuts because she's great with children and good at what she does. I wish I could give 0 stars. I took my 8 year old daughter for a haircut around 1pm Monday. As they were about to take her to a chair for get cut a person walked in who apparently "checked in online" and so the woman told my 8 year old she had to sit down and continue waiting and they were going to provide service to a person who walked in after we had already been patiently waiting. Then a man finished up with his customer and instead of saying I'll be with you in a few minutes, walked away into the back room for about 7 minutes. He then very abruptly called my daughter back for her cut. He then had the nerve to complain that my daughters hair was crispy(she swims every day). This was the primary reason we were getting a cut... To have short hair that would be more manageable for her. After some dirty looks and more complaining he cut her hair. I still tipped him over 20% because he must be miserable in his own life if he treats an 8 YEAR OLD GIRL so rudely. Next time I'll just wait 2+ hours for supercuts. There's a reason that a similar establishment one block away has crazy wait times and great clips does not. Don't take your precious children here!! read more
