I went in to get a haircut, and thought that it would be a pretty simple, quick cut. I told the woman working here that I wanted roughly 1/2 inch taken off, she asked if I wanted my hair to flow over my ears, or if I wanted it shorter. I told her that I want it over the ears. I showed her a picture of how I usually style it (with the hair falling over the ears). She said ok. She then proceeded to disregard everything I told her, taking about 2 inches off, and cutting my hair so that it doesn't fall over my ears. Why even ask what I want if you're just going to cut it however you like? I won't be going back. read more

So i went there today and I asked them to cut it all off and I had some beard hair I wanted them to cut but the barber made me keep my mask on while cutting my hair and so any hair that fell from my head landed in my mask which is not the most covering so now my mouth is full of hair. It gets worse, they finish and when i feel my head they didn't even cut it all off, and they didn't blowdry my back to get the hair off. WORST HAIRCUT EVER I went in to add layers and get a trim. The lady that was cutting my hair was complaining about her other clients of the day which I thought was extremely rude. Since she sprayed down my hair with water and I didn't get a blow dry, i couldn't tell how bad the haircut was then. I went home and straightened it and realized it was an abomination of a hair cut. It was so choppy that i could pin point where on layer started and where it ended. I went back in the next day, and the stylist who was there was shocked at how bad it was. She told me that there wasn't much she could do with my hair since the other stylist had already taken off so much length. She tried to blend the layers, but since the initial cut was already so short there wasn't much she could do. I gave the initial girl a good tip and I wish I hadn't. Not worth the cheap price, run far away from this place! read more

I loved Alex. I've been going to great clips for a while and thought they've always done a great job, this was the first time that I've ever had an experience that truly prompted me to write a review. Alex was friendly and sweet and the customer service was incredible. He didn't cut me off when I was explaining what I wanted, and did everything I asked for without an attitude of resentment (which I've gotten at other shops) He knew exactly what I wanted, and on top of that, offered suggestions of what he thought would make my hair even better (which I agreed to and loved). And he was the chillest guy to talk to. I highly recommend. Will absolutely be back, specifically for his service. read more

This was my first time at this great clips location. From the moment I walked in, even though it was busy and there were only two stylists there. They were incredibly welcoming and friendly. I was a little nervous at first because the only two stylists were guys and I've always had my hair cut by women. Alex was my stylist. He asked me what I was looking for and when I told them I wanted one to 1 1/2 inches off the back he was really careful to make sure that I understood what 1 1/2 looked like. Then I got a shampoo. WOW! He gave a fantastic scalp massage. My haircut was pretty much perfect. I love it. From start to finish Alex was very personable and professional. Normally, I don't care who cuts my hair... But from now on I will be going back to Alex at the great clips in downtown San Marcos! read more

My old barber moved out of town so I had to find a new one and decided to come here. They got me in a chair within 5 minutes of walking in and out the door in 20. I was really apprehensive about trying a new barbershop (especially a chain) but Alex took time to listen to what I wanted done and executed perfectly. On November 1, 2021 I went to the Great Clips University Plaza hair salon in San Marcos, TX. The stylist did not listen to how I wanted my hair cut and I ended up with all my hair cut almost bald. The stylist was very apologetic and later called to assure me that he talked with the owner and my future haircuts would be free until my hair was back to its original style. So today I went back one month later for my first "free" haircut. The stylist said she would need permission from the on-duty manager Chasity. Chasity never once came out of the office to talk with me. Instead, she had the stylist go back and forth several times to the back office. Then Chasity called the owner John Moore and then Chasity told me that I could only have 1 haircut for free period. No discussion. I asked why is that different than what I was told at the time of the bad haircut. She then put the owner John Moore on speakerphone, and he was so arrogant and wouldn't allow me to speak, he kept cutting me off and would not allow me to explain my side of the story, telling me that he is the owner and I need to listen to him because he in control of what happens now. I have never in my life been treated so rudely and disrespectfully. Please don't patronage the University or Springtown Great Clips location. John Moore owns both. read more

This is THE WORST place you could ever possibly get your hair cut. The staff asks NO questions and they also have little to NO experience. The lady who did my hair after she completely botched the job the manager came over and "checked" it for her, correcting everything she did then proceeding to say "it'll take a couple haircuts but you'll get it" IF YOU WANT TO BE SOMEBODYS TEST DUMMY COME HERE TO GET A HAIRCUT. I went there for my typical hair cut and the stylist Ishmael REFUSED to do even the simplest things. I asked for him to do a scissor cut. Guess what the first thing he used was? Clippers. I asked him to not touch the front of my hair. Guess what he immediately followed with? Trying to cut it down. I ask him to cut the top short. He refuses and tells me he can't or won't do it. Then we argue for a solid 3 minutes and he said he would do it finally. Then he cuts next to nothing off the top. Basically I went in their without getting a hair cut at all because I was so furious with trying to reason with him, a shitty hair stylist at a great clips, that I just left. I would recommend the sports clips or super cuts or literally anywhere else in town over them. They used to be good with good stylists but all of the good ones left, and understandably so. After asking for only 2 inches to be trimmed from my hair I came home with 5 and a half inches gone. I asked for a long bob and left with a style that doesn't even pass my chin. Johnny, the stylist, didn't seem to be paying attention to what he was doing. He continually talked with the other customers and took his eyes off of my hair AS he was trimming (chopping). This is the only place I go get my hair cut, and only from one of the guys who works there. Tyler is the best there is in San Marcos, 100% you will be comfortable and beyond happy with your hair when you leave. I've been getting my haircut by him for over a year now at different locations in San Marcos & New Braunfels. Tell him what you want, show him a picture, or do like I do sometimes and just tell him to do whatever he wants- it'll always turn out great. The other stylists are all nice, but there is always someone (or 3-4 other people) there that are requesting him. Sign in online to save time. Bring your ID for a couple bucks off. Haircuts are like 10.99 with a TxState ID. It's a steal for a great haircut. It's never awkward sitting in the chair. You can pay $40 for a basic men's cut somewhere else in town, basically you're paying for a fancy chair and "upscale atmosphere" and a mediocre haircut. Do yourself a favor and have Tyler cut your hair. You won't be disappointed. read more
