I know better than to order ribs in a non bbq restaurant. Despite being a good size these were so over cooked it had to use my pocket knife to cut them. The cole slaw had no flavor. The corn muffin was probably made yesterday. They do not have table service so you order your meal at the counter. After I stood in line to place my order I did not realize I needed to order my drink also. The gentleman that took my order did not ask if I wanted a drink with my meal. So I just got water from the water cooler they had on a table. Their beer may be good but since they do not have a bartender and is wasn't offered one I cannot comment on it. You are also expected to bus your own table after you finish. If I am going out for dinner I do not want to feel like I am eating at a food truck. read more

Dan will provide you the service to make sure you get the right craft beer and food. If you are a craft beer lover you must come here. My boyfriend and I planned on going to a winery but ended up at this awesome brewery. My boyfriend used to work at The Party Source a couple of years ago and remembered selling the Coconut Porter from Great Crescent Brewery in cans and had nothing but great things to say about it. He had a good feeling that I would love it. It is located in old Historic Aurora. When you step in you will love the feel of this place. Nostalgic, cozy and laid back. It's nice to see local artist artwork hanging on the walls. The bar is very unique as well, old antique bar shrunk and beer taps are made out of old recycle metal parts. The bartender was very friendly and explained how each beer was brewed. Useful information and a great way to get to know their product. They do not have flights for tasting but do half pours (pricing depending on what types of beers you get). We tried: -Blueberry Blonde Ale -Blood Orange Blonde Ale -Coconut Porter -Espresso Bourbon Barrel Stout -Pantheon IPA -Harmonie Bier Dark Lager All were great! The Blueberry Blonde Ale was very refreshing and smooth. You can definitely taste the blueberries (great aroma). Blood Orange Blond Ale- Very true to its name. You can taste the oranges and zest in the beer. Coconut Porter had a great nutty, coffee, chocolate and coconut flavor (my favorite). And last the Espresso Bourbon Barrel Stout- what a beauty. You can smell the chard and taste the coffee, chocolate, and hints of cherry/vanilla. It was hard to choose my favorites. They do have growlers to go. We bought a howler for $2.00. Wow!!! What an amazing brewery! The cool steampunk meets old west atmosphere is different than any brewery we have ever been, and the owner's calm and collected attitude made us feel at ease immediately upon walking through the door. The food was a mouthgasm of tender, delicious meats smoked/cooked in house. The beer was great! The mixes they have is a different take on traditional beers, and they are mouth watering. Do yourself a favor and try the espresso stout. This place is an hour away from our house and we will be returning and telling all our friends. The Great Crescent brewery, from all I've read, has a deep rooted history in the town of Aurora. A staple of a bygone era that has transformed itself into a modern day eatery and place to grab a cold pint. Even though I do not drink beer it seemed like a nice place to grab a quick bite with their advertised smoked meats and comfort food served up fresh. For each of their sandwiches they let you choose which protein you'd like it prepared with (pulled pork, Turkey, or smoked burger) I suggest the pulled pork as it was juicy and delicious. The bartender was extremely friendly and helpful you order at the bar and pick up your food right next to it. They have a couple sauces to choose from (the jalapeño mustard is MY JAM!) not to spicy not too sweet it was excellent. However, I could not help but notice that majority of the dishes/sides they serve seemed to be prepared via microwave. The audible "ding" which could be heard right next to the door to the kitchen could be heard constantly during our time here. While I do not mind reheated food, it was this little detail that sort of threw things off for me and not in a great way when your expecting homemade food. However, they do bake their own pretzel and Italian buns and those were excellent but I wished they were toasted or grilled before serving. I would come here again for the friendly service and the fact that they're a local, small business but would like to see some small improvements in the food dept. read more

This was our second time to this establishment and we brought some friends along. Everyone enjoyed the beer, food, and ambiance. The old building where this is located is fantastic. Reminds me of an old hardware store. We are going to make a point of getting back here more often. Flavored crackers are the best but very limited so get there early! They are only open on Friday and Saturday - so, plan accordingly!!!!! The craft beer is awesome! Triple berry in a to go pint for tonight!!! Tried out the new Sunday hours today for dinner. Thus place is the best!!!!! I ordered two dinners plus sides. I rolled out with two growlers of home brew. I'm updating my review and giving them the extra star this time. My family along with two other families stopped in for dinner and drinks after a day of apple picking. I was the only one that had been there in the past so everyone was excited to try something new. There was 16 of us (9 were children!). We were lucky that the dinner crowd had not arrived yet and we were able to occupy two large tables. It took all of us a minute to make our minds up on what to eat but once we did the food came flying out. I am really impressed with how quickly the food was prepared. The food options are limited to sandwiches but there are a lot of them to choose from. And everyone loved their food. I'd gladly make it a point to eat here again any time I am in the area. The most important thing to know is that GCB is only open on Fridays and Saturdays. Last Friday just so happen to be my lucky day. We were driving from Versailles to Aurora in hopes to reconnect with T-Mobile cell service and grab lunch, and we found both, on top of an amazing bourbon barrel stout. Thanks to my fellow Yelpers... otherwise, I would've never found this place. We sat at the bar and asked a few questions while we ate and drank. It's a family run business. The son is who was tending the bar, also does the marketing and such. He was an amazing host and was extremely knowledgeable about the building and history of it and the area. The dad is a the genius brewer that cranked out one of the best bourbon barrel beers that I've ever tasted. The mom is the chef and stayed behind the scene. I ordered the salad and added pulled chicken... excellent! I'm picky when it comes to ranch and their rendition was great. My husband who is a tough one to please, raved about his pulled chicken sandwich and the homemade sauces that came on the side (if you ask). He also raved about the Cosmic IPA. This is a true hidden gem! My husband took me to Perfect North last weekend, and we went to this lovely brewery afterwards for some drinks and dinner. We enjoyed sampling a few of the beers to see which one(s) we wanted to order. I really loved the espresso stout and the lager! For dinner, I ordered the smothered burger. I loved the blend of flavors! Plus, it's offered on a pretzel bun which is a must-try! The cornbread muffin was phenomenal and I would highly recommend! Everything was just delicious! This place is fantastic! We went for the pints and pencils event. There was an art show with paintings, sculpture, jewelry and poetry. There were tons of people there drawing and painting a subject dressed as a pirate. The owners Dan & Lani are the nicest people you will ever meet. Dan invited us in, told us what was going on and offered us any beer tastings we wanted. They were all really good. Our favorite was Dopple Bock, a German brew. Online I saw that they make their own soda. Wow! Lime, cream soda and root beer. So I asked Lani about them and she was eager to let me try them. Then she suggested the lime soda with the cherry ale, oh wow, so good. We tried the Cuban and the brisket sandwich with a side of dad's beans and cornbread. I thought it'd be baked beans, but was pleasantly surprised with the best soup beans ever. I gotta know what's in them. Got the pulled pork for take out and it's even better than the Cuban which is pressed pulled pork. They make all their own bread, sauces, sides, meat, beer and soda. If you love the bread or the dressing, you can just buy the recipe already combined in a baggie with instructions on how to put it together. If you're cold, want a sweatshirt or just want a new shirt period, they have those too. You can also buy jewelry or art too. I love this place!!! I will definitely visit Dan & Lani again. The beer is great and worth the money! The food and staff, however, are awful. If you insist on trying the beer, get it to go. The staff is pompous and rude. Our server acted like he hated life and all of the customers. This was amusing at first but got old fast. All of the smoked meat was extremely dry. Portions are small. Price of food is much too expensive. My wife said the cupcakes are very good but also small and overpriced. Our whole table agreed that the owners should stick to beer and find another solution for food. At first the brewery seems charming but if you observe the family for any length of time you will be overcome with struggling business/no 401k vibes. I can't say enough good things about The Great Crescent Brewery. We recently had our wedding reception here and it was amazing. We wanted something different, eclectic, and intimate. The building is historic and easy to locate. There is plenty of parking. The inside has a neat decor and vibe. Sort of vintage, industrial. We hardly needed to do any decorations except some strings of lights on the posts. The owners are super sweet and helpful, two of the nicest people we've ever met! They just made everything so easy. Honestly, the one thing I didn't worry about with the whole wedding planning was the reception. I just knew they would take care of everything, and they did! They make all their own foods including sauces and homemade bread. We've been here several times for dinner and the food is always good. For our reception, we had them serve smoked chicken and sliced rib eye roast, salad, and a potatoe bar. It was delicious! So many compliments on the food! I really love the pretzel rolls, they are a must have. Of course we also had their craft beer which is worth the trip alone. The guests got to try a nice variety. We had room for a small dance floor, plenty of tables and chairs for the guests, and our wedding cake looked beautiful displayed on the grand piano. The beat way to wrap up a day of snowboarding is definitely by drinking to ease the aches and pains. So I'm glad I found Great Crescent Brewery which was a few miles from the slopes. The menu here is all sandwiches but still lots of variety. Portuguese sausages, brisket, smoked hamburgers, pulled pork and the list goes on. Sadly there are no fries so I opted for sweet potato casserole with my brisket on a bun. The sweet potato casserole is just mashed sweet potatoes because there are no nuts, brown sugar, marshmallows etc. it was still yummy though so I'd recommend. The brisket was served on my choice of a pretzel bun which was soft and definitely locally made fresh. The brisket was tender but lacked flavor and was super fatty. I don't think they used a good enough rub on the brisket. The bbq sauce was really good so I covered my sandwich in it to get my taste buds going. I had the BEST experience here! I think it was pretty obvious that we were from out-of-town and we were greeted by the owner Dan behind the bar. He was super welcoming and informed us we could sample the beers before placing an order and where to order the food at. I tried a few different beers before falling in love with the Cherry Ale. They keep the pint glasses in the fridge so not only is your beer cold but so it the glass. The environment of this building is so cool. It seemed very historic and had a lot of character to it. You could tell that everyone seemed like a regular there but we were welcome with open arms. We ordered the Pulled Pork Sandwich and the Beef Brisket Sandwich. The food was delicious and came out quickly. They had several different types of barbeque sauce to choose from. Most importantly about this establishment, I cannot say enough about how kind and informative the owner Dan was. I will be back for more brews if I ever pass this way again. I apologize for the length of this review ahead of time. If you are looking for a fancy place this is not it. However, if you are looking for a place with caring owners who make their food and drinks from scratch with as many locally sourced ingredients as possible you need to try this place. This is the kind of thing you see on Diners Drive ins and Dives. First of all the building: it is a historical building and is not in the best of shape. Don't let the former 2 star review throw you. When the reviewer said it's in a seedy part of town I'm not sure exactly where he was looking. This is Aurora Indiana. It really doesn't have seedy parts. They call it a tap room not a restaurant and that is exactly what it is. It is one large room with tables set around and a bar with taps at one end. You walk straight up to the bar place your order and then sit down and wait for them to bring it to you. While you are at the bar I highly suggest you talk to the guy taking your order. 99% of the time It is going to be the owner. He is extremely knowledgeable about their beers their food and pretty much anything else you would want to know about the place. Here is something that blew me away. I wasn't sure which beer to try so he gave me a free sample of each and let me decide the one I like the most. Try that at your local restaurant or bar. Ask them if you can get a sample of every beer they serve before making a decision. Like the reviewer who gave 2 stars I wasn't real fond of a couple of the beers. That's because people have different tastes. I found three that I love. Giving this place a 2 star because your taste is different than other people is really kind of silly. But I digress. The beers are all made in-house. The soft drinks are made in house. The barbecue is smoked in house. The sides are made in house. The dressings are made in-house. The sauces are made in house. They make their Portuguese sausage in house. All using as many locally sourced ingredients as they can. You can't go to a chain restaurant or someone who is buying things out of a bag and heating them up and get this kind of quality. Like I said it isn't fancy. You will get a bag of potato chips as your included side with any sandwich. I have tried the Cuban sandwich and the pulled pork. Both are very high quality meat with a great smoke ring and smoky flavor. Even without the sauce they were very good. They have four sauces that are also good. Strangely enough my favorite was mustard with cut up jalapenos and some spices. I'm not even a big fan of mustard but it was really good. I have also tried the beans and my son love the corn bread muffins. While we're on the subject of the beans I don't know how they make these but I really need to find a recipe. I will probably ask on my next trip. I don't know how to describe them exactly. They have the appearance of bean soup basically but when you eat them they have a combination of that taste with baked beans somehow. You can taste both the sweet smokey bacon flavour but also the Great Northern bean soup flavor. I have no idea how this works but it does. I really don't see how you come in here not enjoy it unless you're expecting a 5 star dining experience. This is good honest food and drinks made very fresh at reasonable prices. The only drawback is they're only open 9 a_m to 2 p_m monday to thursday and 9 to 9 friday and saturday. If you like friendly places that serves very high quality food cares enough to make all of their drinks in house and has owners who truly appreciate you coming and do everything they can to accommodate you while you were there, I'm not sure how you could possibly not like this place. The only warning I would give is a very small one and that is that their lime soda is very very sweet. but some people like that so that is certainly not a complaint. that is a personal taste issue just letting you know. Headed to my favorite neighborhood steak and bourbon Saturday night celebration but the bar was packed so I decided to give Great Crescent a try. I have tried some of their retail beer selections in the past and was not overly impressed but Hey what do I have to lose, at least give a fresh pour and new experience a try. Located in an old historic building it has a great rustic vibe with plenty of room and seating. I walked in and there was a crowd but not crowded so as I always do bellied up to the bar and I waited. There were only 2 gentlemen working tonight??? and one was seated at the cash register. It seemed like there was a long line to cash out and the guy behind the bar was pouring beers and I was a GHOST. After a while I figured out that the people cashing out were actually ordering their libation and food when the guy behind the bar asked me if I needed any thing...........well.....DUH!!! I started to move my lips and the Bar Tender?? pointed to the seated cashier and said "you order there." I'm sitting at a bar, the Bar Tender?? directs me to stand up, walk 7 steps to place my order, which I did, I was asked my name and what I wanted and he said "OK, Bar Tender?? will take care of you" So I take those same 7 steps in reverse back to my warm seat (I was going to say stool but...) and just like magic I finally had a Beer, it was a tame IPA not near the style I like (strong as hell and tastes like you're licking the ass end of a skunk). So I finish my IPA and guess what I have to do....take those 7 steps and go stand in line (yep it seems there is always a line) to order another beer. I asked for the Porter and the cashier puts it in his register and I mosey on back to my warm stool (sorry, I just had to say it :) The Porter is waiting and I must admit the beer beat me back to my stool (juvenile giggle). The Porter was the highlight of this visit. I did not try any of the food and now it's time to leave so (yep you guessed it) I stand and take those 12 steps (the line is 9 people deep, hence the 5 extra steps) to now cash out. I'm so worn out just going back and forth for a couple of beers I head on home hoping Third & Main has room for me next week. This was an excellent choice for lunch. Great atmosphere and the fresh food was delicious! My sister got the smoked pulled pork and said it didn't even need any sauce- it was that good. I got the turkey Rueben burger with the pretzel bun (def get the pretzel bun!!). It was AMAZING!! We both got side salads which was shredded lettuce with baby carrots and grape tomatoes, which isn't much. But add the homemade salad dressing and it's a great salad. We didn't partake in the beers but did have a glass of wine each. The Holtkamp rosé was an accidental exact pour. I'd highly recommend this place. read more

Now soak it in the stout and mush it together and drink it. Ok, the texture sounds bad. But they had special for Derby weekend a Derby Pie Bourbon Barrel Stout. BEST. BEER. I'VE. EVER. HAD. I didn't even know I was drinking beer. I could have drank it all day but it's really a beer that you should just have one glass of and savor it like a dessert. We parked behind the building and loved that they have their hops growing out back. That just shows how home-grown everything is. The inside of this place is amazing. It's in a very old building, possibly an old factory or stable in Aurora, IN. At the bottom of the hill. If you go outside and look straight you just see up a huge hill with beautiful old homes lining it and a cute mansion at the top of it. The owner, Dan, and his wife Lani were there. Dan served us our drinks and took our orders. We were the only ones there so he also took time to get to know us. He explained how he made each beer and what his plans are for the future. He explained that the only thing he didn't make there were the chips and the pretzel bread. But everything else from the regular house bread buns to the condiments to the Canadian Bacon are all house-made. Because of that, I couldn't resist but getting the Canadian Bacon & Provolone melt. I topped it with some sweet habanero mustard and it was out of this world. I also tried the Blonde Ale which was very smooth and crisp and paired nicely with a sandwich. You can go on their website or facebook page to see what he's making each week. But you will be impressed with whatever is there. You will feel welcome, like you're a personal guest. Note, this is NOT a food review. We did not eat here, just had beers. I love supporting local businesses so after a long time of Great Crescent being the only brewery from Cincinnati to Lexington that I have not visited, I finally made the trip. It was dark and rainy outside so I didn't get the best view of the place but it looks like it was in a pretty run down part of town and not very nice on the outside. Once inside, the place was really nice and quaint. It reminded me of what may have at one time been a general store with goods racks and counter having been replaced by tables and a bar. There was a section of locally made art on the far side from the door and a selection of games and food goods on the near side. Very nice. Now to the important part, the beer. We sampled everything that was available which was a blonde ale, a cherry porter, a cherry stout and a something-or-other IPA. The blonde was tolerable and the rest were flat out disgusting. I did get probably the coolest can I've ever seen before though which had artwork on it made especially for the Cincinnati Comic-con. I know Great Crescent can do a good beer as the Coconut Porter I've had before I remember as being pretty good. Perhaps it would've been worth the trip had we been hungry and wanted to eat but as it stands, I see no reason to ever come back here. The place is quaint and old-timey but early on a Saturday night it was empty and the beer was bad. So bad that if I could, I would've given it zero stars. Walking into a brewery that you have never been to before can be daunting. There's a moment when you have to look over the beers and decide what you want to try and you hope to do so without bothering the staff to much. The last brewery I went to before this one was mount Carmel and the staff there made you feel like you were imposing big time. Not here at great crescent. The owner (or one of them?) greeted us and told us about every beer and gave us free samples of each. The beer was great but I was even more impressed with the service. It was like he was having fun telling us about his business, it's history and his beers. I could have talked to that guy all day. The food: I had the pulled pork nachos and the wife had the chicken bacon sandwich on a pretzel bun. The pulled pork had a awesome smoked flavor. Hard to explain but it was great. The wife's sandwich was amazing as well and that pretzel bun was amazing. We bought a glass before we left and our tab was very small compared to most breweries. I would love to see expanded hours. I was lucky enough to enjoy this place with complete strangers visiting from Texas. The food was incredible (brisket with provolone, cornbread and dads beans). The beer was some of the best I have ever had (cherry ale and Orbitz IPA)! A much needed night to relax and unwind.
