I really wasn't expecting much from a downtown Dubuque Ia Chinese food restaurant just down the street from the mansion bed and breakfast I was staying at but my original choice was not open on that day. The place looks run down and take out mostly because no one was eating in the place but orders were going out and phones were ringing, maybe a good sign. You know how much I love the combination plate when it comes to Chinese food so I called in and ordered the beef with broccoli dinner combo and my side choices were egg roll and pork fried rice which took 10 minutes. My only disappointment was no hot mustard like in Milwaukee because I like that on my egg roll with soy sauce. My combination dinner actually looked really good and better than I expected with a full size egg roll, thank you. The pork fried rice didn't look like much but it was flavorful and not cooked to mush but flavorful. The egg roll was not frozen with crispy fresh cabbage and also flavorful with a nice golden wrapper. The beef and broccoli was also flavorful with thick tender beef and broccoli that was not cooked to mush with some crunch left in it, dam everything cooked perfectly and no mushy food. WOW I'm impressed with this place because it puts lots of Chinese restaurants to shame because it was cooked perfectly, not skimping and flavorful so I would definitely have dinner here again. Ordered through GrubHub. Did not get notice that it was done, just that it had started. Got home, 20 minutes away and found no crab rangoons. Ordered Seven Stars around the Moon which was far from being over the moon. The "beef" did not taste or look like beef. For $14.99 it didn't come with anything but rice. No egg roll. Hot and sour soup had big great chunks of tofu. Noodles had nice Smokey flavor. I will not go back. read more

Was surprised, ordered the chicken in garlic sauce lunch special, and it was REALLY good, including the egg roll. Nice guy behind the counter too. This place is excellent. I don't care what anyone says, the flavors are on point- way better tasting than House of China and certainly Fuji. I always get the House Lo Mein special and some egg rolls and fried dumplings. Have also had the sweet and sour chicken before and it was great. Everything tastes fresh, egg rolls are always crispy, can't beat it for Chinese for me in Dubuque. Get some take out if you're craving Chinese, you won't be disappointed. read more

The place was freezing. We ordered to go, asked to make sure that there were silverware in the bag. There was not any silverware included. The sesame chicken wasn't as pictured. The photo on the menu shows broccoli, and there was none. It was also very overcooked. The peppered steak was okay. It has a thick sauce. The fried rice was very oily and lacking flavor. This place is filthy dirty, the seating area is weird, the counter has broken plastic covering it, with a TV blasting MSM right by the check out. The family that runs this place are a bit strange, but they crush their food. It is delicious, and I eat it all the time. When you call in an order it is always ready in 10 minutes. Quick home delivery and authentic Szechuan dishes, like Szechuan Wontons, which are dumplings in a spicy peanut sauce. In addition, the regular dumplings were great and the dumpling sauce was perfect. I thought the cold sesame noodles were a little too dry, but overall I enjoyed the meal. They make things authentically spicy, which I like, but I was surprised when spicy was actually spicy, which is an unusual experience for me in Iowa. I have been ordering food from here at least once a month, and i don't care what other negative reviews say I love new great dragon it has awesome cheap food with large quality's if you want lunch the next day. I have only had 1-3 bad experiences with this downtown great dragon over the coarse of 6 years, and one of the few times I came back, and they made a new fresh order! The only thing better than this place is the great dragon on dodge which is twice as good for some reason, but if you want cheap Chinese downtown this is the place I recommend for sure. read more

I'm confused on why there are two places with very similar names and same phone number. Prior reviews said they got their food in 10 minutes but that was definitely not my experience. The first time I called the communication was very difficult and the lady said it would be 45 minutes. It's a 4 minute drive from the restaurant. Then a guy called me back 10-15 minutes later and said it would be 25 minutes. As of right now, it's been an hour. The total price was about $32.00 for 1 order of crab Rangoon and 2 entrees- General's chicken and broccoli beef. The food was mediocre at best. This is my favorite Chinese spot in Dubuque. They have two locations one on 14th and the other next to target on dodge. Okay great dragon is my favorite for a couple of reasons, first it's reasonably priced. I usually get an entree and crabmeat rangoons to share with my girlfriend. It costs around $16 and we usually have left overs just from the one entree. They have a speedy delivery service which I don't use often but they are quick when I do. No matter how big my order is when ever I'm done ordering they always tell me "Okay, it be ready in ten minute." And it always is. My personal favorite dish is their orange chicken and I am much more of a shrimp fried rice kind of guy but their homemade orange sauce is to die for. I definitely suggest great dragon to anyone who wants fast affordable Chinese. read more
