The staff at the welcome center was great but everything After that was a huge disappointment! I have already emailed corporate to ask for our money back!!! They were out of food, the activities had no supplies and they canceled activities that were scheduled, the attitude of the activities And food service was terrible! The guys cutting the grass left all the clippings in the little splash pad area and we couldn't use that either. we took our grands for a few days of fun but it turned into disappointment. 90% of the activities had a fee so beware they are not free ( like other parks). Don't waste your time or money like we did. It's not worth it! I'm not sure who's responsible for supplies or motivation of the workers but this place needs an overhaul of everything! We recently brought our RV to Great Escapes for a two-night stay and had a wonderful experience. The grounds were beautifully maintained, and it was clear that the new management has put a lot of effort into improving the property. Everything felt clean, well-kept, and welcoming. One of my favorite features was the food truck, which was open most of the day and conveniently located in front of the activities center. It made grabbing a meal or snack easy without having to leave the resort. Unfortunately, a storm rolled in during our stay, which caused some of the outdoor activities to pause. While the weather was out of everyone's control, I would have loved to see a few more complimentary indoor activities offered in the activity center during the downtime. Overall, we had a great trip, made wonderful memories with friends and family, and would absolutely visit again. We're looking forward to coming back! read more

I had a great time playing this weekend at #greatescapesrv In Perrin Tx. As a member of the #texasbarflies , I was proud to come and represent my friends and my band, at local area that I grew up in. The park is fantastic, and my son and I both loved it. Great amenities, and lots to do for any age child or adult. Jessica and Curtis from the staff were both very accommodating and friendly. Whether I'm playing or not, my son and I would love to come back here and enjoy the fun activities. He had a great time on the #wibbit, the bounce pad, and the splash pad, and the water gun shooting train. The campgrounds are very woodsy, with lots of shade, and the guests here are awesome! I would definitely love to come back here camp or play another show. . I can't say enough good things about this place and staff that runs it and the campers that I've interacted with while I'm here. . So much to do, and such a great environment to do it in. I want to thank all of those that came out and watched my live performance. I had a great show, and they were great audience. I always enjoy fan appreciation, and of course always enjoy a tip. But one little girl went out of her way to give me a glow stick flower that she had made. I can honestly say, that was one of the most heartfelt tips I've ever received. We had a family Reunion and we had accommodations we needed. The new general managers are doing a great job!

First of all, let me start by saying I never post bad reviews, but this was such a bad experience. I feel like it's important in this situation, especially because families travel to get there and the kids are completely let down when what's promised is not at all what they experience. It's always been such a special time for our family. We travel in our RVs with about 3-5 other families each year and bring our grands. They have always asked to come back year after year. Sadly enough, this year will be our last for the group. We were so disappointed at how run down it was. It was so bad that there was algae in the pools, the restrooms at the pools were disgusting, the trash cans were overflowing and never were emptied at night, at one point we had no water and then when the water came back on, we lost water pressure frequently to the point it was impossible to take showers in the evening or wash dishes. The water park pool was dangerous. The overflow PVC inserts that cover the long lateral overflow section, right where kids are playing and walking to the tables, was broken in one spot and it was an ER visit waiting to happen. I reported it 3 times over a 3 day period and still it was not getting addressed. Someone put a chair over it (seriously?) finally, at the end of day 3 I found an employee that walked through the water park and he replaced it. However, had I not flagged him down, I feel like it would have been ignored. I saw the same 4 employees from Thursday to Sunday. It's too large of a property with so much planned not to have staffing. When I reported that the bathrooms needed some attention, I was told that they didn't have any housekeeping staff. Really?!?!?! The adult pool had mustard algae and black algae all over the place. Who knows the last time it had been cleaned. The activities for each day were posted and the majority of them never took place. For the ones that took place, there was not enough staff to have the activity and the poor staff that was working had no idea what was even going on. At one point the teenage girl working asked my friend and I if we knew how to do tie die t-shirts. Our 8 & 9 year old grands were able to help themselves. They did not have any tie dye colors mixed up to prepare for the activity, so the kids had to wait an hour before the one teenage girl working could get some made up. There were too many kids not to have proper staffing. They advertised a movie in the park each night. It never took place. There was supposed to be a fun foam party and when another group of kids came in asking about it, the one teenage girl working in the Activity Center said "I guess I have to do that too!" It was clear that no one has kept up with maintenance of the property and training for the staff seemed non existent. The teenage kids working there were doing their best, but it was just too much. The dog park poop trash can had not been emptied the entire 4 days we were there. We pick up after our dogs. I realize that others don't always pick up, but it was so bad in the park that our German Shepherds wouldn't even roam the dog park. It was pretty disgusting. The large trash bins overflowed and by the end of 4 days, it was just absolutely ridiculous. If you are going to advertise that you have Putt-Putt. Last time I checked it requires you have golf balls. There were 2 at any given time and it wasn't because it was busy. It's so sad that I even had to write this. What a complete waste of such a beautiful property. read more

We have attended a family reunion here for several years. In the past year or 2, things have continued going downhill. It's sad, because there is potential for this to be a great place, like it used to be. I realize they're short-staffed, but when you're spending this much money, things should be in better shape. We rented the biggest cabin, so we spent a lot of money. We walked in and it stunk. It had not been cleaned good in a while. The floors were filthy; clearly had not been mopped in a while. The freezer was dirty. A bar stool had sticky stuff on it. There was an extensive cobweb in the corner above the couch. (The couch smelled bad). The shower walls had not been cleaned. There were dead insects and dirt on the walls. The dishes in the drawers and cabinets were dirty. My mother stayed in a smaller cabin and it smelled great and was very clean. I'm not sure why ours was not like that. There was also a horrible smell by the bbq pit. Smelled like rotting carcass. The king bed needs to be replaced. Very uncomfortable and sinks in badly. When my aunt tried to check in to her cabin, she wasn't allowed to; she was told housekeeping had not cleaned hers yet. She was told that the cabin we were in had to be cleaned first because we were checking in early. I'm not sure where that came from. We never told anyone we wanted to check in early. The big water feature was down because there was E. Coli. We didn't have water for quite a few hours. I understand leaks happen, but this was not the first time water had been down that weekend. Our family also rents a big meeting room. We had to clean it before we could use it. It smelled bad and was dirty. We also had to clean cabinets off in our cabin. The mini golf was in disrepair. It hasn't been taken care of. The green was rolling up on some of the holes. The clubs were disgusting and sticky; they clearly have never been cleaned. We (and our family) spent a lot of money to stay here. We definitely did not get our moneys' worth. We will not be coming back. read more

Just not what it used to be. Grass not mowed, said they didn't have a working mower. Had to sweep the dirt up in my room after I moved into my room also found dirty dishes in the cabinet. The large water feature they added was closed down, they just don't have much to offer and it's gotten this way since the new ownership took over. read more

Went here for Labor Day weekend with all the family and the kids were never bored . They have crafts , the blob , putt putt golf , swimming, and the obstacle course . My only complaint is the campsites are so close together that you have no sitting room outside. They originally put us in site 18 which you had to back between 2 trees which we did but then you couldn't let out your slides so they moved us towards the end I believe site 28 . It's expensive but worth the time there . read more

Update: We returned to Great Escapes and let me tell you they have it figured out! The staff was amazing, the facilities were even better, it was the best time. I've stayed here in a cabin during water war week and it was amazing. So many fun things for the kids to do. I loved that the cabin was dog friendly. The water park was so fun for the kids. One slide was broken but the kids didn't seem to mind at all, they have so many other fun water guns and stuff to occupy them all day. We got wibet bands for myself, my husband and both kids but my young daughter got nervous and changed her mind and they were able to refund both of ours without issue. We will definitely stay again. read more

Time to update my review. Best I can figure, we've been coming here about 15 years. Mitchell has grown like crazy. There are now 46 cabins, 112 RV spots, 4 swimming pools, miniature golf, a 9 hole golf course, fishing lake, baseball field, off leash dog park, remote control car race track, and the whole park is just gorgeous. Labor Day weekend, Elvis was in the house! Saturday, the egg toss was so much fun! Sunday afternoon was free dill pickle day! Pucker up! Sunday night, Elvis had all the ladies swooning, and all the men playing in his band! We really had a blast. Now, a few reviews talk about the rude owners. We have known Kevin and Doris since they bought the place. They are strict, but for a reason. This is a family oriented park, period. No trouble, no bull. If you think you are going to come here, drink too much, and get out of hand, your wrong. You WILL be escorted out of the park, and not invited back. Believe me, everyone appreciates this. Of course drinking is allowed, just keep it family friendly. Just an hours drive from DFW, you need to come check out this park. You'll have a great weekend, and you might see me and Glenda! read more

We have stayed there several times in past years. Its always been a great mom n pop type place to stay out in the country of north texas. in the last year it was bought out and has become great escapes rather than our old mitchell park. First time after the sale, we were a bit disappointed to find it was 49 $ a night Now, we call for a reservation and in addition to the 49 a night, it is an additional 9 $ per person in addition for activity charges. We are there to visit our grandchildren and will be busy with our own activities, but the extra charges are automatic. We have never paid that much per night in any upscale park, which this is not, and will be finding other accommodations. Sad to see this place run like this. It is a great country park read more

A lot of pros for the kids and unfortunately a few cons for the adults. Here over the holiday in our RV and family in one of the cabins. RV sites are VERY close together but few people here so that wasn't a problem on this trip. Lots for kids to do and see here, the grandkids had a blast. I can imagine how much fun they would have in the summer! If internet or cell service is important to you I would pick somewhere else. Cell service is nonexistent, which I anticipated since park is in the country. The internet was a disappointment. My work requires me to check email frequently even on holidays and it was a constant struggle. There were very few people here so I imagine when it's packed the internet service will be nonexistent as well. If internet isn't important then you will like it here. A "lock" fee for your site and $75 per day for a golf cart is excessive. Never had to pay a lock fee before to hold a site, especially when the park is almost empty. Money is really important to them here it seems like. I wish they would put some of it into upgrading their internet. The cabin was sufficient but not worth the high cost in my opinion. They rented the large one that sleeps 8 and it was tiny for 8 people. One had to sleep on a folding cot. They were stepping all over each other and it had one 20" tv for all of them. Beds are very crammed together and crowded. All of the cabins are metal buildings so even the 1 bar internet was eliminated in the cabin. They have eliminated the golf course to put in more sites so my husband was not happy about that. He had planned to play and was disappointed. That was really the only 'senior' game available. Lol Depending on your priorities, you will like it here or be frustrated here but the kids will love it! read more

Had our Family Reunion here this weekend and everyone was really happy with all of the accommodations. A few stayed in RV's but the majority stayed in the adorable and very clean cabins. We were a little unnerved about the snake warnings, but we're all from TX, so not a shocker. I wish the group building (Maple ???) had bigger refrigerators and ovens, but it was otherwise really nice and the AC worked great. My husband and I have stayed at many campgrounds. It is due to how our entire family was treated by the owners of Mitchell's RV park that I must write a review. The owners are the most disrespectful, unfair and dishonest people I have encountered. Motorhomes, Campers and camping is quite expensive and time consuming to prepare for. Families are seeking a special and unique experience with other family members and close friends. I feel they have lost site of why they are in business. We camped this past fall and as I walked my dogs the owner going full speed on his golf cart headed across two roads, several sites and straight for me. I had to run out of the road as fast as I could. He definitely let me know I am not safe there. I regret not reporting this incident. That was a mistake. We camped this winter and two guests joined the 4 of us that Friday. There were 6 of us total. They were staying overnight. Around 24 to 26 hours is what they stayed. They were charged for 2 days $40.00. Keep in mind our spot for our motorhome was only $42.00. One guest put a Yelp review that he felt the daily fee was to high. The owner called one of us and said if he did not take that Yelp down the couple he was visiting had to leave and the 2-guest had to leave. One of us went to the office and asked if there had been a misunderstanding and what can we do. Also said we would have him remove the Yelp and the owner said 'If the yelp isn't taken down yaw can all leave and you won't be invited back". We were like "wow" great holiday this has turned out to be. See I believe business owners need to read their yelps and consider how to meet the customers needs when possible. The guest did take down the yelp and we stayed however, not comfortable. The next incident involved 2 of us that got a price to rent a spot for 4 months at $375.00. Upon checking in they were asked for an extra $100.00 (surprise!) Near the end of the month the owners called asking for next months rent. They said rent for the next month is due. The tenant was told when they rented the spot from the get go that it was $375.00 for 4 months. Now at the end of the month they have reneged on their agreement. Now they want to change the price to 375 per month for a camper to sit empty most of the time. They do not use it maybe 2 weekends a month. They told the owner why in the world would I pay that much money to have my camper sit empty most of the time. We will use it a few weekends a month. They told him if he did not like he could of course "LEAVE". So what we took from it was they really did want us all to leave back when the first comment was made about the daily rate. No one in this group has ever done anything wrong at this campground. In addition there are No work out facilities, No Cable, spotty WiFi Intermittent phone service, Inconsistent pricing and website information, Power Failures, Water not working at times, Flooding of sites. Bring lots of towels and rugs. If you have pets' good luck. Pool maintenance such as chlorine levels could be improved upon during high usage hours, Dryers in the laundry room are worn out, Pets, we have two small dogs that are never off leash. This park had a large pit mix stray roaming the park our entire stay. We were told not to worry it won't bite us. A Jacuzzi, they do not have. On our first visit we asked if they would ever consider putting in a jacuzzi. I have rheumatoid arthritis. The owner snapped her head around and said very quickly "We have been doing this for 17 years and we know what we are doing". I left the office on that retort, Golfers ever want a wife to ride along-only if you pay the full fee for her to play golf! They were afraid she would steel "Golf". Nothing was gained by this behavior. If anything, that couple will never return nor will we nor our family or friends. They will not affect any future holidays there are so many beautiful campgrounds near us. Mitchells is not the only one. . read more

We have stayed here a lot we have family that stays quite frequently. They have never been the nicest people we just liked the location so we stayed several times. The last incident I called to reserve for a weekend they told me about a winter special there having never done this before they said. She told me 375 for 4 months you just have to pay for electric once a month I thought that's a pretty good deal we may come out once or twice a month so I did it when I checked he said ok that will be 475 I said she told me 375 he there is a 100 dollar deposit ok that's fine 475 so we took it and stayed that weekend of nov 9th and stayed for thanksgiving weekend with my wife's family they have a Rv also. So my daughter came out with her husband and stayed with us for the night they charged them 40 dollars which I thought was excessive but ok. I haven't been since then so I called to pay my electric bill on Thursday she said your electric is 16 dollars and you owe for the month 375. I said no I've already paid for the 4 month special she said no that's a month every month is 375 I said what that's not what you told me .I would have never done that it doesn't make sense .I've only stayed twice -sorry she said if you didn't understand. But you can come get your trailer and we will call it even. So very upset I went and picked up my camper no money back for anything- (Deposit)it cost me 475 to stay out here on 2 weekends. I will never stay there ever again and my extended family will not either. Side note I have heard them argue with patrons a lot about costs a fees. Really ridiculous I have spent a lot of money there there Wifi is terrible no phone service and you can hardly get any tv channels. Don't waste your money going to this Rv park. We have stayed a few times but I don't recommend staying if it rains most if the sites flood when it rains. They do nothing for drainage. The puddled water lasted 2 days after it stopped raining. They refuse to do anything to get cable tv even though you can not get any digital channels on your rv antenna. They provide a wire hook up to an antenna but you only get a few channels that fade in and out. There wifi is spotty and phone reception is limited. Our guest was charged $40.00 for an overnight stay in their parents rv. He posted that he thought that was excessive. Kevin called and said we had to pull down the review or leave. Doris said if he doesn't pull down the negative comment out there even though true ,we and our families would have to leave and will be banned from the park. They can not handle any constructive feedback. If we stay on Saturday with our rv we pay one day fee. But if we have a guest they have to pay for two days guest fee. When told that the charge too much they said then don't come back. They get $42.00 per day for a site. Eagles nest starts at $30.00 a night Rockin D rv park gets $35.00 a night Hidden lake gets $35.00 a night Their prices are higher than most to begin with. They show no compassion for customers it's a take it or leave it attitude. If you walk around the park watch out for Kevin in his golf cart. He speeds around and almost ran over my wife and 2 dogs. She had to run out of the way to keep from being hit. We can't go over 5 mph but it's ok for him. The park rules only apply to guests and they change the rules to suit themselves. Our last trip we ran across a stray dog living on the property. Kevin said he knew it but could not get rid of the dog. We had to worry about it attacking one of our dogs while being walked. I was afraid as it looked like a pit bull. I feel they did not do anything to resolve the problem. read more

This was a great find. Just happened to come across this park when doing some research. Yes, they are in the middle of nowhere, but that's part of the appeal. My Husband played golf on the 9 hole, 3 par course and was impressed. The pools and dog park are nice, but enjoyed just sitting outside enjoying the peace and quiet. Our family has camped here during all seasons and we enjoy it anytime!! This Thanksgiving was very wet and cold but with the help and generosity of the owners Kevin and Doris our family had a great time playing game, putting puzzles together, watching football, and having a great Thanksgiving feast. Another amazing thing was even though we had wifi we spent quality family time together without everyone on their phones. The building was very comfortable and accommodating with table and chairs and cooking facilities. read more
