From the initial call ("We don't work with your insurance", when in fact they accept both of my dental insurances) to cancelling my appointment when I asked about the cost of "a full set of 18 X-rays", this was such an unfortunate situation. Overall such a pleasure! Staff is beyond amazing and my teeth are super clean, so I'd say 10/10!!

1) April 2nd. 2024, I had an emergency appointment for a broken tooth, the doctor spent less than a minute evaluating me. He looked at the x-rays of all the teeth on the lower right side of my mouth. Gave me a referral for a root canal. Had a root canal perform on tooth #26 , but the broken tooth was tooth #28! The sole purpose of the emergency appointment was for the broken tooth. Went back and got another referral for tooth #28, which by this time had gotten infected and abscessed!! 2) According to my Cigna Dental Insurance I was overcharged $440 for a crown, tooth 14. 3) According to my Cigna Dental Insurance I was overcharged $700 for a deep cleaning procedure, after being told my insurance doesn't cover it. However, they did bill my insurance for over $500. So they got money from me and the insurance company. Note: I was told that they are a corporate office and not a franchise, not true. My Insurance company said they would contact the office about the overcharges. read more

Went for a cleaning which I specifically made an appointment for and at the front desk told them it was all I wanted. They took X-rays and said they recommended a deep cleaning which I already had gotten 3 years ago. After an hour of probing and me expecting a cleaning. When I asked when the hygienist would do my cleaning they said it wasn't needed since they were booking me for a deep cleaning. I was caught completely off guard. I haven't had a cavity in 15 years and already had a deep cleaning done recently. I canceled the appointment for a deep cleaning and told them I was upset since I told them I clearly went for a cleaning and was specific about it. They gave me an attitude and did not care about my complaint. They just bill the xrays and hope to make money on anyone with a deep cleaning. This used to be a good office, but no more. I scheduled a cleaning & took time off from work to go. When they called my insurance they claimed I am not covered & I "need to get that fixed". When I called my insurance they told me I AM covered. Thus they did as I suspected and ignored the number I gave them to call and instead called whatever generic number they had on file that was not associated with my insurance. Do not come here. I am very unhappy with the standard of care at this practice. Overall I have great dental health and went here because it was one of the only options that my insurance would cover for my routine cleaning. The hygienist was very kind, though I was taken aback when she diagnosed me with gum disease (mind you, I've never even had so much as a cavity) and said I would need a root scalar cleaning, special mouthwash that would stain my teeth, and to return in 3 months for a follow up and additional cleaning to take care of the stains from the mouthwash. I also thought it was strange that I was never seen by a dentist (only hygienist). I should have listened to my gut but instead I let them do the extra cleaning. Of course insurance only covered the routine cleaning and about half of the other services so I still owed $250 out of pocket. Feeling frustrated, I did some online research and in reading the other Yelp reviews noticed this happened to others as well, so I decided to get a second opinion. This dentist (small but reputable private practice, not corporate) looked at my x-rays, which he said were completely fine, and that I did not have evidence of gum disease. (And naturally, getting my x-rays from Great Expressions was like pulling teeth - pun intended.) I have a hunch Great Expressions is squeezing money out of nervous clients with perfectly fine oral health, scaring them with incorrect diagnoses and convincing them they'll need extra work, then of course they'll have to come back for follow ups etc. which will cost even more. I will be filing a complaint with my insurance company and the BBB. read more

Very friendly and courteous staff. But is seems like every new patient needs a deep cleaning that will run you an extra $400. Then of course you will need some other things fixed that they will find wrong or need fixing. Get a second opinion before you let them do anything to your teeth. While i'm sure some of it is beneficial. Not all of may be necessary. read more

On the first visit (and only visit) they only took x-rays and refused to clean my teeth as they wanted me to come back for a "deep cleaning." I don't have time for this nonsense and neither do you. I cannot say enough good things about the team at Great Expressions in Orange, CT! 30+ years of dentist visits and have never had such a top notch, consistent experience in every way. I've never waited more than two mins before being taken back to the exam chair. They always have your x-rays up on the screen before you even enter the room. The hygienists are always extremely personable, while also careful to explain each step of the process as they go. The doctor is the same - very thorough and friendly. I once called with a question and the dentist himself got on the phone to answer it! This level of detail and service is unmatched, and much appreciated. read more

Background: I've been going to Great Expressions Dental Since moving to Orange nearly 5 years ago. Early on the experience might have been a little sparse, but today they're on their way from great to awesome! My previous Dental Hygienist (DH) Kristen Greene was fantastic. She identified some perio issues early on, took them very seriously, we applied a plan and got results. Incredible Dental Hygienist: About 12 months ago I met Henry, the new DH and though sad to see Kristen go, he was outstanding from the start. Very well informed, diligent, thorough and consistent each time. On my most recent visit he pointed out the improvement seen after I made an electric toothbrush part of my routine and he's always very pleasant. It's like going to see an old friend that is incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about dental hygiene. His cleanings are the best and to date I have no perio issue except for a few spots we're watching. Great Dentist: On my last visit I was disappointed to hear Dr. Tesis (sp?) had moved onto another practice closer to home. He'd been empathetic and detailed in past visits and it's always a little worrisome to initiate another doctor/patient relationship. But by the time my appointment with Dr. Mike was over all anxieties were washed away and I'd had a thorough and well-informed assessment on my teeth, a lot of which was new information about the positioning of my teeth and the problems that might ensue if not addressed. Best Dental Visit Ever: We had a detailed conversation about next steps, the front office helped me understand the financial plan and I'm on my way to better oral health by way of practicing informed oral hygiene with the incredible Great Expressions Dental Team of Orange by my side. read more

I logged into my old Yelp account just to write a review for these folks. I am very pleased with my how my entire visit went (two appointments, general cleaning and for fillings). From the beginning, any questions or concerns I had were addressed. Cleaning and procedures for fillings were done with care - my comfort throughout the process was clearly a priority. I don't really know anyone who likes dental work but if you're in need of a new dentist, this is the place with the best staff. And, they're going to have a shiny new office pretty soon! read more

I went to this dentist office in 2020 several times. The staff, including the Dr.Ryan Rengifo were amazing! He was very knowledgeable and kind during my procedures. Kim, the front desk person could use some work! I had cleaning performed and signed a paper containing all charges and what I was responsible for. Later, I got a HUGE bill. She told me I could call her to discuss this bill, but at the time they were allegedly changing systems. I gave her 3 weeks and called the office. Her response was I should call my HR at work and ask them about my plan!!! I thought this was rude. Not to mention she couldn't explain whether they received payment or not. My dental plan verified they did pay and were able to give me a "quote" for what I was responsible for. Needless to say, there were ALOT of over-charges. And I continue to this day receiving bills, for which I HAVE ALREADY made payment for months ago. When I call the office to dispute this, they don't pick up the phone. God only knows how often they update their billing system. I am so upset, as a Nurse myself I think they need to be more patient centered and flexible. Their website mentions payment plans, OOP payments if you have no insurance and discounts etc....so why wasn't I offered this if it was better than using my insurance?! Do not use this dentist. I just reported them to the Better Business Bureau after a year's worth of debating the balance of services which they demanded I receive and the insurance did not cover. I just wanted my teeth cleaned. Horrible. read more

This business attempts to sell services not required. At my scheduled appointment for a cleaning the new Hygienist checked my gums and stated I had Gingivitis and needed Perio Scaling and Root Planing as well as four treatments of minocyline arestin for a total price of $1,380.00 discounted to $924.00. Not having insurance, I declined the service and left without even having the scheduled cleaning or seeing a Doctor on site. Concerned, I made an appointment with another Dentist. I was examined and my suspicions were confirmed. The new Dentist also questioned the need and type of cap that was installed by the Great Expressions Dentist the previous year. Evidently the type of cap installed in the location is not customary and I could be facing problems in the future. To sum up: A Hygienist without Doctor oversight is selling services not needed and is a cause of much anxiety and concern. read more

This office is horrible. The place looks so old, never been renovated,Everytime I go there , there's always a new dentist so I have to explain to them the same situation with my teeth over and over to new dentist each time. It's annoying!! Also, office manager Kim , I had an question on my bill and I called but everytime I called she's out or busy on the phone. So I literally surprised Kim and showed up and got pissed at her about bill disregarding patients were waiting in the lobby. Hygienist who cleaned my teeth, she was giving false perio readings on me like 7mm and up. I've never heard that in my mouth before. And that I needed deep cleanings which cost more money.
