Really difficult to schedule/reschedule an appointment once they made a mistake, way more time than a patient should spend on that!

Update: I've added proof that this is a real review because Dr. T has forgotten his own actions. This dentist is absolutely terrible. I got multiple fillings from him two years ago on the left side of my mouth and they are STILL sensitive. I learned my lesson early, switched to another dentist to do fillings on the right side and what do you know, the other dentist's work is just fine. Not only are my fillings by Dr. T terrible, he also took unusual breaks during the procedure, leaving me to sit there waiting with chunks of multiple teeth drilled out. I went to the bathroom during his break once and saw my teeth without the fillings -- horrifying. No one should ever have to see their own mouth like that. And lastly, I requested that my records and x-rays be sent from his office to my current dentist THREE times over the course of a week, once during my first appointment with my new dentist because they still hadn't sent them after asking twice. As a result, I had to get all new x-rays that my insurance wouldn't cover. That's money lost because of his negligent staff. So in case I haven't warned you enough, please please do not go to this place. You can find much better. I know I did. read more

Good facilities, and good hygienists, but Dr. Tagliarini is almost never there for dental exams. I'm not sure if that is legal. There is also a higher turnaround of hygienists than I would prefer. I will be looking to switch soon. EDIT: Here is a reply to the comment on the review by Dr. Tagliarini: In that case, why not call the patients once you know you are going to be away on those days, and ask if they would like to reschedule? My husband and I have been seeing Dr. Tagliarini for our dentist appointments for 10+ years. Above all he is honest, straightforward, very competent and knowledgeable. He has a great dentist chair manner for calming fears while he fills cavities, root canals, etc. If I have to check in briefly with Dr. Tagliarini after having my teeth cleaned, I know my mouth is in good shape. The more dental work I needed, the more time Dr. Tagliarini has spent with me to make sure I understand what needs to be done. This is just the best Dentist's office! I swear! All of the staff knows you when you walk in the door, chat you up, and just in general make you feel welcome. Above that they are amazingly technically proficient.... my teeth have never felt cleaner after one of my six month check ups. As to the Doctor, well he is great. I moved out to CT a couple years ago and had been going back to NY for my regular dentist. I had an emergency tooth situation, Dr. Tagliarini and his staff were able to fit me in the day I called. The whole staff is extremely welcoming and friendly. I did not currently have any insurance at the time and Christal, at the front desk, helped me to the best of her ability to get me on an affordable budget. Dr. Tagliarini was great. I am not a fan of going to the dentist at all, before this, but he was able to make the appointments comfortable and so The process did not hurt at all. I understand they have my name written down in front of them when I walk in the door, but I really do feel like I am walking in to catch up with old friends. My personal schedule makes planning appointments challenging and they have always been accommodating and professional to help me out. My wife recommended I try this dentist because they were reasonably priced and friendly. Friendly, yes. Reasonable, no. All I wanted was a cleaning and to check out a sore toothe that I suspected was a cavity. They snowed me- telling me that there had to be a whole mouth X-Rays ($90) to determine the source of the problem. And they also hit me with a new patient exam charge (approx $90)- which was 5 minutes of the dentist looking at my mouth. They insisted both were necessary and required. Foolish me. I should have left before work was done but I was anxious to deal with the sore tooth. $300 later I was out the door. And with a diagnosis of two small cavities and an estimated cost of $430 to fix those. Won't be getting that work done at this dentist! read more

My fiancé has been here twice now and is very impressed! He's mentioned both times how professional and friendly the staff is, which is nice because he's not easily impressed. He's also a bit of a stickler but has found their prices to be more than fair for dental (unlike other reviews). They also gave him information to help save on costs going forward. Also a huge perk is that while they're all the convenience of being downtown, the office is just off 95 with off street parking! We just moved here from Florida and after his two experiences, I'm looking forward to my first appointment in a few weeks. read more

As I witnessed multiple sessions with Dr. Tagliarini and a variety of patients and treatment needs, I remain impressed with the attention to courteous patient care, and the overall process of how dentistry is performed. I witnessed time and again how Dr. Tagliarini has a way of putting his patients at ease in the dental chair and how without even thinking procedures are completed with minimal discomfort. I was Dr. Tagliarini's patient for almost four years, and I would never recommend him to anyone. In fact I have never, ever recommended him to any of my friends or family members even when I was his patient. You might wonder why I stayed with him that long if I hated him. Well, it was because I was too lazy to look for another dentist, and I didn't have any serious dental issues so I sucked it up every time I had to go to his office. I decided to finally find another dentist when Dr. Tagliarini convinced me that I needed a crown on a tooth that was giving me no problems whatsoever. Yet, he kept telling me for years that I needed to do something about that tooth. I finally gave in, and when he started working on the tooth it turned out that I now I needed a root canal. After the root canal my tooth continued to hurt. It's been four months now since I got the root canal and crown, and I'm still in pain and out of $3,000 I had to pay him. Dr. Joseph Tagliarini is a really bad dentist. He never explains why you need a dental procedure, what he is doing on your teeth. He doesn't spend enough time with you talking about medical procedures, treatments or your oral health. He makes inappropriate jokes, and when you're in his chair he doesn't bother explaining to you what he is doing or asking how you feel. He spends the whole time chatting/gosspiping with his dental assistant. His office staff is not rude, but they're not nice either. They are just very indifferent and they change frequently. I've been seeing Dr. Tagliarini ever since he started his practice about 13 years ago. He is incredibly skillful and knowledgeable, with all the latest technology. I never thought I'd say this about a dentist's office, but I *love* Comprehensive Dental Health! On their website they say: "Gentleness, continual communication, and sensitivity are the hallmarks of our approach to dental procedures." And they are right. Dr. Tagliarini and company explain everything that's going on and that's very reassuring to a dental wimp like me. The doctor is very empathetic and goes the extra mile for his patients - he even met me at his office on Thanksgiving morning to fix a temporary bridge that had fallen out. That's dedication! Cleanings are a breeze and feel great. The office is up-to-date with the newest technology and because of this, even a root canal was pretty easy. The office staff is great and works with you on billing and insurance. Apparently they give a 10% discount to Yale grad students without insurance - something I could have used during my grad school years. I was pleasantly surprise to find that Comprehensive Dental is a very welcoming place with friendly, professional staff. I had 2 crowns done at Dr. Tagliarini's office during my time in New Haven 5 years ago, and both have since failed because he cracked the teeth. I lost both teeth, and I have had to undergo two very painful and very expensive extractions and dental implants. I would never recommend this dentist to anyone. read more
