The appointment seemed routine; they took X-rays, which I didn't expect to reveal anything alarming since I had seen my own dentist back in my home state less than two months prior for an exam and cleaning, as I don't reside permanently in CT. After reviewing the X-rays, Dr. Tartagni performed a hot and cold test on my tooth and abruptly informed me that I needed a root canal. I was surprised because I didn't feel much during the test and mentioned this to her. Looking back, it seemed like she was either guessing or pushing for unnecessary treatment. After being told I needed a root canal, I was taken to the financial office and given an exorbitant out-of-pocket estimate. The news was especially stressful since I am a college student and my dental coverage is in my home state. Ultimately, I sought a second opinion from my dentist back home, who promptly reassured me that my tooth was perfectly fine and that I had narrowly avoided being taken advantage of. Multiple X-rays confirmed this, and other dentists agreed that no treatment was necessary. This happened about a year ago, and today, my tooth feels completely normal and the strange sensation has disappeared. It even felt better a couple of days after the visit, despite the lady working in the financial office saying that the "pain would likely just get worse" if I didn't go through with the procedure. My dentist back in my home state confirmed it was just sensitivity, which I'm confident he was correct about. I believe Dr. Tartagni and her office should feel ashamed for causing such unnecessary stress. While I understand that medical professionals can make mistakes, the entire experience was incredibly frustrating. Then the extraction costs were higher due to difficulty, which it did not seem to be. Finally I paid the bill at the end and put it behind me. Now one year later I receive a text that I owe another $540 and will be sent to collection if not paid. When I asked the reason for the additional cost the answer was not satisfactory. During my procedure, with laughing gas, I was told that I was going to have a root canal. I was pulled off the gas and told to sign some papers. I did this, and then went back under the gas, feeling nauseated the entire time. It was then the worst root canal of my life; long, painful and nauseated. When I came out the dr and the nurse looked visibly shaken like they hadn't expected it. I was sent home WITHOUT a prescription for antibiotics. Over the next three days, my swelling went from bad to worse as my neck began to swell up in the front. The pain was unbelievable. On Monday I called the office as soon as they opened and todl them that my neck was swelling. I was told to take ibuprofen and use a hot compress. On Tuesday, it got even worse and I began to struggle with the feeling of something in my throat. I went into the office and the dentist looked at me and said "Well, I think it's an infection, so we will give you another round of antibiotics. I said "You never gave me a first round" and they looked panicked. They sent me to an oral surgeon in New Milford who did x-rays. They could see the infection and told me if it got any worse to go immediately to the ER. The next morning, I woke up and could barely breathe. My husband raced me to the ER where they pumped me full of steroids and antibiotics and did a CAT scan on my neck. I was there for nine hours, and I have never been so scared in my life. There are no words to capture how scary it is feeling your windpipe slowly close. When I reached out to the dental team, I heard NOTHING. They did not check on me, they did not offer any help or empathy. This mistake, and their lack of follow up not only almost cost me my life, but it cost around 8,000 in medical bills. When I went to them with a reasonable request to pay back thte money that their mistake had cost me (and nothing more), they couldn't be bothered. I had to pursue it for months until an outside company reached out to me to say they believed they did nothign wrong. I have never gotten an apology or even a voicemail from the dentist. DO NOT GO TO THIS DENTIST. When i went for a follow-up to another dentist (since I refused to go back), she told me that my root canal was done improperly and that we would need to do it again because it was done sloppily. I wept in the chair at the idea of having anything done in that area. This was my experience with the Dental Team; one that I unfortunately for my health and my bank account, will never forgot.

It was originally done in 2020, and fell off for the first time in 2021. She told me that she was going to have to charge me to re-cement it. (I don't have insurance) I asked how much. After about 10 min of runaround with her & the billing specialist, I was told the charge would be $150! I told her that I would pay it because I have no choice, but that i thought it was ridiculous that I would have to pay that much money to glue a crown back on. (I had a previous crown on a different tooth that lasted me 15+ years without ever coming off!) At that point, she told me that she was not going to put it back on for me because "I don't trust her work"! So, after spending almost 2 hours there, I had to leave without getting the crown put on, at 3pm. She was aware that I was going to NC tomorrow and there's no way I would be able to get in with any other dentist this late in the day. And she actually looked really pleased with herself for refusing to do the work. It was honestly the most unprofessional experience I have ever had at any dental office. I hadn't been into the office for a long time, for personal reasons. She took several opportunities to point that out to me as well. As if that was the reason my crown (which to my understanding is permanent & should not be coming off multiple times) came off. I have a lot of dental issues. I have spent thousands of dollars at this office & have family members that have spent tens of thousands. I actually talked to Dr. V today about finally putting together a plan to get to the bottom of all my issues. And now I have to find another office. I really loved Dr. Wong, but he is there anymore. The rest of the staff in the office are AMAZING & SO KIND!! The office is beautiful, with all the newest technology. There are so many nice things I can say about the office in general. But after today, I will not be returning. The way that Dr. V handled the entire situation was extremely UNPROFESSIONAL & UNETHICAL. I now have to drive to NC without my fragile tooth unprotected and deal with it when I come back. All because the crown that they did has fallen out twice in less than 5 years, and I told her that I felt taken advantage of for being charged $150 for that!!
