Instead, I felt like we were an inconvenience from the moment we sat down. We waited at the dental chair for 20 minutes before anyone came over -- which is a very long time to try to keep an 18-month-old entertained and calm, especially in an unfamiliar environment where she's expected to just sit still. When the hygienist finally approached us, there was no attempt to engage with my daughter, build rapport, or help her feel comfortable. No effort was made to show her the tools, explain what would happen, or ease her into the experience. Instead, I was essentially told to hold her down so they could proceed. For a child who had never seen a dentist before, that approach felt abrupt and insensitive. To make matters worse, the hygienist hadn't reviewed her chart and made me feel as though it was my fault that a medical form wasn't completed -- a form I was never provided when I filled out the initial paperwork online. I then had to stand around with my daughter for another 10-15 minutes waiting for the form to be printed and completed. The lack of organization and communication only added to an already stressful situation. What should have been a gentle, positive first introduction to dental care turned into a distressing experience. My daughter, who previously enjoyed having her teeth brushed at home, has been resistant ever since this visit. That alone speaks volumes.
