Sadly I bashed into my garage door, happily I called Great Lakes Garage Door! The employee called when he said he would, arrived on time, assessed the damage and reviewed it with me. He explained everything that he needed to do and gave me an estimate. He was polite and finished the work promptly. He then went over everything and had me look at it, making sure I was satisfied. I was particularly happy because as a woman, workers often speak down to me and this didn't happen. He spoke to me respectfully and went over everything. Amazing job by Abel to quickly fix our garage door which came off the tracks after being hit by our vehicle. I replaced my garage door opener myself, and the new unit was so powerful it knocked my door off the tracks and brought to my attention some other failing parts on the door. Great Lakes came out within 2 hours on a cold Saturday night to repair the door. They replaced all wheels and bearings and aligned and balanced out the door, and it works better than ever. Abel really came through after one of the torsion springs broke on my garage door. I was able to schedule an evening appointment and he showed up and got right to work (after giving a breakdown of the work required and the very reasonable cost). He was able to replace both torsion springs, as well as swap out the aging metal rollers on my primary and secondary doors with nylon rollers. He recalibrated my new door opener (which I had installed the weekend before) and made sure everything was working smoothly. When he was done, he gave a thorough overview of the work he did, and was extremely informative and patient when it came to any questions I had. Abel is hard working, polite, kind, and professional. I immediately found Great Lakes on Yelp and had a message back in minutes with the option to come out that night. I decided to wait until Friday morning and they kept in touch with their exact ETA. I wish this review could be a good one, unfortunately it can't be. I contacted this company for a quote on a new garage door in July. I was given a quote but received a lower quote from a different contractor. I was happy to learn that this co. could match it and decided to go with them. After I paid a deposit on August 14th, pretty much all communication stopped. It was like pulling teeth to get any updates on the door. I understood that most things are on back order due to Covid-19 so I patiently waited. Every communication that did occur with this company was initiated by me with exception to when they wanted the deposit. I even had to call them to confirm if the door had arrived. Had I not contacted them, I'm not sure I'd know today. I was given an install date of today, October 16th with an arrival window of 11am-noon. Guess what happened? No one showed up and no one called. I texted the installer, saw that he read it and he still failed to respond. I called the office and was told they're having 'internal issues' with technicians that would require them to quarantine for two weeks. I explained that due to lack of communication, I was no longer comfortable with them and asked for a refund. If they have a Covid issue, that's understandable, but failing to call me and reschedule is inconsiderate especially since this wasn't the first time. I was told I would be given a refund, and I would receive a call back in 20 minutes to confirm an ETA for the refund. Guess what? The call never came so an hour later I called back and was sent to voicemail. I waited awhile and called back again and was told that a check will go out on Tuesday, October 20th when a manager would be available to sign the check. Here's the real gag. When I paid them it was in person. When they have to pay me, I get the 'check will be in the mail.' Be warned. This is a small company with zero organization and it shows. I really try to support small local businesses especially during this pandemic but it looks like I'll have to go with a large national company. What a shame. I have an update today 10/28: I was told the check was in the mail 8 days ago and still haven't received it. Today is 11/3rd and I am happy to report that a check I wrote back in August has finally been refunded to me today via Quickpay. This was a long and sad journey and now I'm off to purchase a garage door from another company. read more

Great Lakes Garage Door deserves 10 stars for AMAZING customer care and expertise! They were rescue heroes, when my garage door unexpectedly came off its tracks late on a Saturday winter night. The door would not close. I was in a panic. I had called several other companies that showed little concern, couldn't confirm when/if they could get someone to help, and promised to gouge me with huge fees for emergency service. Luckily I contacted Great Lakes. The experience with their team from start to finish was completely focused on solving my problem, fast and fairly. First the Great Lakes dispatcher was very calming and helpful. She assured me that they'd take care of me. She put a technician right on it and kept me updated until he arrived - on time! Then the technician, Joe, was friendly and reassuring, despite the late hour. He thoroughly explained the problem, what needed to be done and why. Since it was an emergency call, I braced myself for a huge bill. But Great Lakes charged me the same as regular weekday service AND gave me a discount for having come through Yelp. PLUS, Joe shared helpful, impressive knowledge about how to strengthen the door for a longer life and how to avoid similar problems in the future. PLUS, Great Lakes gave a six month warranty on their work! This was unbelievable service!!! I so appreciated Great Lakes' empathy for the customer. They understood why I needed to have the door fixed that evening (I live in the city and a partially open garage door on my home would have been a huge safety risk). Great Lakes went more than the extra mile to help this very relieved and satisfied customer. Their 24/7 service without charging a premium for a service call after normal business hours was quite refreshing to hear as most companies add extra for servicing after 7pm. I needed a technician to arrive after 9pm and this was no problem at all for Great Lakes. The customer service representative, Jennifer, was so friendly and helpful.
