This place was great! Stopped in on recommendation of the homemade hot chocolate, which was so delicious. You can taste the chocolate in it, we were told that they get pounds of chocolate and make their own mixed here. You can honestly tell the difference, so delicious. I got the reindeer puke icecream which was great as well, vanilla with cookie dough pieces. They had peanut butter, jams, cookies cakes, and ice creams to go. We had gotten a snickerdoodle ice cream sandwhich, which my boyfriend said: "The hot chocolate made us come but the snickerdoodle stole my heart" On top of that, the customer service was great. We were asked about our thanksgiving plans and had a nice conversation, which I don't find often up north, but as a 50% southerner, made me miss home! The ice cream was incredibly creamy. We got the Great Lakes Rainbow Ice cream in a wake cone, which is blueberry, key lime, and Blue Moon. It's rich and sweet without being overly sweet. It didn't make you thirsty. It was a great sweet treat after taking our dog to Robert's Park in Shields, MI. My nephew got the chocolate covered waffle cone with cherry chip and I got a pre-packaged container of the coffee Caramel crunch for my spouse. The coffee Caramel Crunch Ice cream with the English toffee pieces was the best I've cream we've ever had! This ice cream shop is open all year and it's a cute spot to visit whether staying to eat there or in the car. They had over a dozen flavors, some named for places in the great state of Michigan. I had Salt Mine Detroit(?) which was caramel ice cream with generous amounts of salted pecan bits and toffee bits. My other scoop was Cider and donuts: apple cider ice cream with chunks of cider mill donuts inside. Both were really good and the waffle cone was perfect. My sister had chocolate peanut butter and a honey ice cream, which per the sign was made with 5 lbs of local honey. It was delicious! Indoor and outdoor seating under covered wrap around porch and picnic tables on the lawn. Inside has 3 booths made to look like row boats cut in half, plus additional bistro type tables and chairs. They had a cooler of hand packed pints for sale plus beverages/ water. The staff were very friendly and did not make us feel rushed at all, as there were only two people, that I saw. Even when a group including 4-5 kids arrived with certificates of some sort, the guy was really nice and making eye contact while talking to the little ones as they ordered (with adults helping). The noise level was loud with the kids but there's more hard surfaces bouncing sound around. The restroom was nice and large, handicapped accessible and had really nice hand soap. I ended up with too much, because I'm used to foamy dime size squirts so I hit it about 4x. It was thicker gel/ liquid and took 'forever' to rinse off, but it smelled good so I didn't mind at all! Part of the wrap around porch was converted to a ramp for people of all abilities and there's a good size parking lot surrounding the shop. We found out about this local hot spot on a FB page for Day trips in MI, and it was definitely worth the drive/ stopping before heading back to Dearborn. You will not be disappointed read more

There are also unique flavor choices available, including saffron ice cream and goat cheese ice cream. Definitely recommend the Soo Lock Swirl and Pictured Rocks flavors. read more

I've only lived in Midland for a month, and I've already been here three times. The house where I stayed for my first few days had a container of Wake Up Call (coffee) and Raspberry Rage, and I probably ate too much of it. Since then, I've fallen in love with Cherry Chip, and my second favorite is probably the Detroit Salted Caramel. I did have one flavor I didn't love, which I can't remember, but it was still solid. They have a small parking lot next to the store, so I didn't have issues finding a spot for my car. As usual, I was feeling indecisive, so decided to try a bunch of flavors. The staff member graciously gave me numerous samples, before I settled on SaltMineDetroit. The SaltMineDetroit is a delectable mix of caramel ice cream filled with roasted pecans and chocolate covered toffee. It's the perfect mix of creamy, salty, and sweet. The cone I got took it to the next level by playing on the crunchy, sweet notes of the ice cream. I really enjoyed the ice cream here and try to stop by whenever I am in the area. The people were nice and it was clean inside. The waffle cones are fresh and really good. These two things are probably the best things about this ice cream shop. The ice cream was a bit below average. The different names for the ice cream don't really tell you what flavors it is. And the staff is pretty patient but if it is your first time there, you really have no idea what Blue Moon or Dog Puke would taste like. And when you order a cookie dough you'd think there would be cookie dough in it but even with a medium - which is two good sized scoops it only had two pieces of cookie dough - so it was more vanilla than anything else. Another person in my family got one that was supposed to have pecans and caramel but only had one piece of a nut in the entire scoop - can't recall what the name of it was. The vanilla as well as the strawberry were decent but more than the flavor they were named for, they were just creamy and sweet. The best scoop that anyone in our party got was lemon bar - although it was a bit soft and more like a gelato consistency. Really better off getting tubs of Ben and Jerry's - especially considering the price. We like our ice cream and are willing to pay if the quality is good. This place other than the waffle cones, cute shop, nice staff and cleanliness just doesn't have good enough ice cream to want to go back for more (since the ice cream is the main reason you go to an ice cream shop.) read more
