I ordered a firearm bundle on the 21st of December. I checked on the order 2 times, and I was told everything was looking good. I just got a call saying the item was out of stock and they had to give me a refund. After the call I checked their website, and the item I ordered is showing in stock, and it let me add the item to my cart. The only difference is the item was $60 more than what I paid. I would give Great Lakes Outdoors in Middlefield an A+. Large store with lots of sporting goods (especially firearms and ammo) to pick from - and employees who actually want to help you (a rarity nowadays). My wife and I had the pleasure of being assisted by the Firearms Manager - Mr. Robert Gotham. He spent a lot of time showing us the differences in handguns. We are in the market to buy a new handgun so my wife and I can shoot together. We enjoyed the time we spent there and are very close to purchasing a new handgun. I have bought ammo and browsed there before. The other employees were very helpful also. It's a very nice change to go into a store where the staff actually wants to help you - rather than just tries to get you in and out. Thanks again all! read more

Great Lakes is well staffed by employees willingly to assist their customers. They regularly have wonderful sales especially their bundle packages. I don't get out to Middlfield very often but stop by when I am in the area. Recently, I saw a pistol I liked on their website and decided to stop in and see if it was available. Long story short the pistol was available and decided to buy it. Even though I presented my CCW permit the dealer insisted running a NICS check was law. With the new penalties because of a failed check due to a clerk mistyping something I was less than happy. I bought another pistol about a week ago somewhere else without a NICS check so I know this is the case. I tried to see if maybe this was policy but nope. Stuck to his position. The other people were nice so giving 4 stars. Just thought I should mention it. read more

This is a really decent Cabella's-esque outdoor sporting goods store founded and owned by a local Geauga County resident. This 30,000 sq. ft. location opened in 2012, the 3rd physical storefront location for Ralph Spidalieri's Great Lakes Outdoor Supply which he started in 1999 as an online store. It's still new and building inventory although what's already there is quite plentiful. You'll find everything you need for the consummate Geauga County outdoorsmen including a wide selection of pistols, rifles, shotguns & ammo for virtually every caliber you can think of, bows & archery supplies, air guns, fishing/boating supplies, kayaks, camping equipment, etc. And the prices are fair and help support the local community. They have specials all the time, too, which they circulate online and in mailers. The staff is friendly and helpful. They even offer CCW courses and an indoor archery range. We're looking forward to visiting this store often for many years to come! NOTE: This is a big store, but it's somewhat hidden from view. It is located behind Middlefield Tavern at the 87/608 intersection in Middlefield. Just travel north from that intersection on 608 for about 0.1-mile. read more

Great Lakes is an excellent store. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The prices are hit or miss on certain items. The sales specials they run have great value and is worth checking online for periodically. I am happy they are opening a store closer to Cleveland in the Chagrin area within the next two weeks. Stopped in about 15 minutes before closing time to look for a revolver, if they had what I wanted would come back the next day to buy it, paperwork, etc. When I walked in my wife said hello to the cashiers, she got nasty looks in response. One minute later all most of the lights in the store go out. Went back to the gun counter and instead of being greeted one clerk said to the other, "well I'm shuttin' her down." Obviously they didn't care to make a sale, or even let me know they were open special the next day (Sunday) because it's Black Friday weekend. So we walked out 7 minutes before they closed in almost total darkness and without a single person waiting on me. Wonder why you've had to close stores recently?? I will never set foot in that store again, and will order what I want from a different company online so I don't get treated like an inconvenience. I used to work in retail for many years so I get you want to go home at the end of the night, but this was blatantly rude. Guess business is so good you don't need my money. Great help from department workers. Great selection. Fair prices. Register operator was poor. No greeting, no acknowledgement of what I said about placing an item on the side because I changed my mind about the item and no thank you after my purchase. Almost ruined my opinion but the positives outweighed it. I'll be back. read more

A store that hires people that know what they are selling and working on. Managers that are outstanding. I have never been to this store (Mentor or Middlefield) without someone being able to answer a question or find a answer within 10 minutes. Prices are excellent and the store is very clean. Get put on the mailing list and you will find some excellent deals. read more
