I came across the store while checking out places to buy gift bags. I was familiar with the brand as I buy their cellphone gift bags at Christmas and love them so was excited when I saw they had a store. I drove there during the hours they were supposed to be open but no one was there so called and was told that you have to order online and then do curbside pick up. So I placed an order and told them what time I would be there. Luckily when I ordered, one of their bags was on sale so I bought a bunch of them. I'll keep checking online to see what they have. Very cute Hawaii themed bags!

Notecards and gift bags. The assortment was serious!

What a delight to find this store hidden away. Purchased precious gift bags and lovely Hawaiiana cards at amazing prices! I would have purchased more if I'd had room in my carryon. Definitely, I'll return. The person helping us was very kind.

Like a game of musical chairs, we circle until someone vacates a spot. Then, there is a wait for carts, unless you grab one from an exiting customer. Inside the aisles are wide (thankfully). The store itself didn't seem larger that other Costcos. For the most part, the store footprint is the same. They offer meat, clothing, baked goods, hearing aids and hot dogs for $1.50 (maybe the best deal on the island). The Costcos in Hawaii also offer fresh poke, fresh sushi and a variety of Hawaii produced vegetables, fruits, fish and coffee. Tourists can even pick up inexpensive Hawaiian shirts and chocolates. We picked up groceries for the week....milk, eggs, fruit, salad mix, the usual. Check out was actually pretty quick. Every lane was open and the clerks move like poetry in motion. Finally, the line to leave the store was 25 carts deep. Argggg! Slowly the line moved. Finally out! Wow! I didn't take photos. I was too overwhelmed.

It's certainly not surprising for the highest grossing, busiest Costco location in the world. What is surprising is just how quickly the checkout process can be, even with the huge number of people in line with the huge carts and dollies. The cashiers and assistants have the process down to a science, and no matter how long the line is, you're typically out in less than 15 minutes. Finding everything you need is always tricky, due to their practice of constantly moving items, and not having aisle numbers. If you can find an employee tho, they're very knowledgeable, and always happy to let you know if a specific item is in stock, and even help you locate it in the maze. Of course, you almost never leave with just the items you actually came in for. It's funny (or maddening) that on this trip, I had budgeted to buy $200 worth of durable food items to donate to the Hawaii Foodbank. Along the way I picked up just a couple off items for myself, and when I checked out, the total was $300. Typical, I guess. Once you're done, remembering where you parked (that's a whole other story) is another thing, but at least you're done. No wonder I usually only come here for the gas, lol.

I'm so happy when I called Island Marketing (IM) and it was open today and allows walk ins. There is a parking lot right in front of its business. I met Eric, one of the two owners, who work tirelessly here. It's amazing how much inventory is carried in this business. I called her back as soon as I psyched myself up. Mom had a nervous laugh in her voice, so I braced myself even more... She explained that she and her classmates wanted to do something for the 88 graduates of their high school, Sacred Hearts Academy. They didn't want to give a perishable flower lei, so they thought that a yarn lei would be appropriate. What does that have to do with me? I attended Maryknoll School. Hah! Mom knows that I know how to make a yarn lei - and quite efficiently. I had made 100 lei for my nephew's graduation, so, what's 88 more? Mom also knows that I know where to get supplies at a reasonable price. She suggested that I call Max Imports and see if they're open. It's not easy saying "no" to mom. Thinking about all the sacrifices she made for me over the decades... well... you know... So, of course, mom was right. Max Imports was open. The phone was answered right away and the nice lady on the phone helped me so much. I told her that I needed to make 88 lei. She asked what school and figured out the colors: Yellow grosgrain ribbon - 3 spools White long eyelash yarn - 9 packages Yellow short eyelash yarn - 9 packages Total = $485.34, including tax I told the kind lady that I could be there in about an hour after getting cash from the bank - no problem. That was enough time for her to pull the items from the shelves. When I got to Max Imports in Kalihi, there was metered street parking and a free parking lot next to the warehouse. I went up to the table like she described and rang the "Apple Bell". She appeared quickly and I gave her the cash. She went back inside to get a receipt for me. I found out that her name was Alice. I had seen her before at the Douglas Trade Shows at the Neal S. Blaisdell Center. I had bought yarn and ribbon from them several times in the past. I had even come to this shop to get supplies. Alice was so knowledgeable and pleasant. She even helped me carry a box to my car! As we walked, I thanked her because I know that the prices at Walmart and Longs are higher. She added that those retailers wouldn't have the quantity I needed. She's right! So - if you need to make many lei, come to Max Imports for the best prices and service! Good luck!

I was tempted, but I keep telling myself that I don't "need" it... Like the Hello Kitty x OPI set... very cute and kind of useful... I asked the nice woman cashier if there was a restroom. The door is to the left of the building and is actually the Will Call area though they do have a lot of shelves to display their inventory which does include cleaning chemicals, food containers, gloves and many items that you just don't see like foam trays.
