While the store and employees are good. They sold me a defective Yeti cooler with and giant dent in the lid that was not noticed until I got home and noticed! The cooler is defective and only keeps ice for two hours! Honestly not great since normal yetis keep ice for days! read more

They used to have great stock. Fewer and fewer people shop here. And I can imagine why. News Flash: Make your customers feel like criminals for coming in the store...and they will leave with their money in their pocket. Years ago, I loved this store..... I would find stuff I needed, listen with delight to bearded men talk about river trips while I fingered Ph.Smartwool socks. But for the last few years, I'd had a niggling suspicion. But I didn't believe it. Cause, it is not good to lead a suspicious kind of life. But I had always felt as though I had been profiled when I visited. So I stopped shopping here. And my suspicions were confirmed when a friend and I had come in to shop together. I was followed the entire time, asked the i really don't mean it "can I help you find something..." Staff coming over and fondling the women's rack of clothing, straightening things that were already straight. I had forgotten he was there, until I had that "someone is staring at you" feeling only to look up and see he was in the boat department doing the same thing. I looked up and he gave me the crappy "I've been caught, but if I grin, I'll bet you are too dumb to figure out I'm following you grin" My shopping companion who is slower than molasses, was left to her own devices the entire time this was going on. She is white. I am not. I asked for a pair of shoes, that I had been interested in trying. The staff person seemed to be reluctant to look and did nothing after returning empty handed to engage me as anything other than something he must keep his eyes on until I left. Don't worry. I will never ever be back. p.s. for the record, I would have dropped at least 2 Ben's on stuff I needed. But I kept my money and my self esteem in my pocket. read more

Since the cars are finally both paid off, we decided to start looking at kayaks. Right now we're still a couple months out from purchasing and we let them know that, but Brian still took the time to talk with us and help figure out what would be the best options for us. I'm short and we're looking for kayaks with peddles, so I was concerned that my feet wouldn't reach the peddles. Brian went above and beyond to settle that concern for me. He showed us additional equipment that could be useful. He was never pushy or salesman-y, but laid out the pros and cons for every item we looked at. Love this store. They have a generous selection of all of your outdoor clothing, equipment & accessory needs, and also very friendly staff. As soon as I walked in today I was greeted immediately & one of the employees asked what I had been looking for and helped me determine a couple options for shoes I needed. I just went in store and tried spend 1,000 or so I camping stuff and 4 employees standing around refused help me. They were all too busy with conversation with each other about the weekend. I sat and waited for 20 min for social hour be over and finally gave up. I will order everything online and visit my local Dick sporting good with no issues. I wanted support a local store but will go else where for my camping stuff. It sad because I never see that store get much business what so ever. read more

I've been coming to these guys for years now - simply the BEST outdoor team in our town. The have all the best gear with a ton of tremendous EXPERIENCE across all genres. The gang will answer all questions with technical detail - and if you get one that, say, isn't as experienced on fly fishing, he or she will FIND the guy/gal in the store that is and get them to you right away. The store is beautiful, comfortable, inviting, and warm. Their fly fishing section is best in town. Highly recommend you visit, even if just window shopping, to meet the staff. I buy all of my fly gear from them - purely because I know they will back me up 100% if I have a problem (which are rare indeed). Don't miss this joint! read more

These guys know their stuff. The staff is very courteous and informative. They are good at gauging when I am in a hurry and simply need solid, brief advice. They also have graciously helped plan camping destinations intertwined with charming and fun stories of their own travels in the North Carolina mountains. The store is delightfully cheery and well designed. The prices may be more than you'd find on a discount online store, but the products they carry are top notch quality and the experience is far more valuable.
