The process would take 3 hours and I'd split it into multiple days because neither him nor I could do a full 3 hour session at once. I said all that to say that I wish I would've gone to Betty sooner! I got my dog Beast in 2022 and for some reason it was really hard to find a groomer--no one was taking on new clients. I scheduled my appointment online with Wholesome Doodle, answered a few questions and uploaded a few pics of what I wanted Beast's cut to look like. I was able to get aN appointment fairly quickly. Upon meeting Betty, she felt around for mats and helped me come up with a mat that would be best for Beast. Unfortunately, we had to shave him down pretty low during his first grooming appointment, but that was no one's fault but my own. Things got In the way and I didn't brush him as regularly as I should've and many mats formed. Following the appointment she provided us with a folder with care and maintenance tips for his coat. Betty is highly experienced and will explain everything going into the appointment. She does great with Beast and I recommend her to everyone!

But then I reminded myself, the building and the parking lot have little bearing on what goes on inside. It's a no frills front desk operation, to be sure, but I peeked around back and it's super cute back there. There was a joyous reunion when April saw Jessica again, and as always, Jessica did an amazing job. I loved what another reviewer said: "Jessica is literally the doodle whisperer"! That is the doggone truth. And about the building, as the saying goes, you can't always judge a book by its cover.

Our old groomers no longer seem to work here, but we still rave about the kindness and care the team showed our pups back in 2021. 2026: Our new pup arrived to us covered in mats so severe I had to trim some myself, leaving him a bit uneven. We scheduled a grooming session but didn't realize he would be receiving a "first-time puppy cut," which is different from a full grooming appointment. I completely understand the difference, but I wish I had been informed upfront, as I was expecting a full-body cut--especially at the price we paid. A month later, we tried a different groomer, Ivy, after seeing a Goldendoodle cut on their Instagram that we loved. She did an amazing job! As a reminder, per most pet grooming policies, all dogs must have up-to-date vaccines before their appointment. Additionally, there is now a late pickup fee if you arrive more than 30 minutes after your pet's session is completed.

They even send them off with the cutest bandannas and accessories after a groom -- it's such a sweet touch that shows how much they care. Dr. Rob walked me through his treatment rationale. We had a real discussion about the best course of treatment instead of the typical take-it-or-leave-it approach you get at most facilities. Unlike some of our experiences with other veterinarians in Austin, we never feel rushed. We truly appreciate the care and attention he gives to both us and our cat Reishi. Dr. Rob performed oral surgery to remove several of Reishi's teeth. It was the first major surgery we had experienced with her. He was extremely patient with our questions, took wonderful care of her, and guided us through the entire process. Reishi healed very quickly and had no postoperative complications, which we were especially grateful for after hearing about friends whose pets experienced infections and other issues following similar procedures elsewhere. Recently, Reishi had a cancer scare after an alarming initial assessment at an emergency vet. We were quite stressed. When we brought her to see Dr. Rob, he first acknowledged what we had been through and made us feel heard and cared for before discussing the next steps. He even emailed us with test results and next steps while he was on a family vacation, which showed us how deeply he cares about his patients. Fortunately, further testing showed that Reishi did not have cancer. Going through such a stressful experience felt much more manageable knowing that Reishi was under Dr. Rob's care. He is compassionate, patient, knowledgeable, and genuinely invested in both his patients and their families. Unfortunately, we are moving out of state and will have to find a new veterinarian. We truly hope we can find a clinic as wonderful as ATX Animal Clinic. It is the best veterinary clinic we have ever had, and we are incredibly grateful to Dr. Rob and the entire team.

Since I'm new to this, I was looking forward to asking the "experts" a few questions. Unfortunately, that excitement disappeared the moment I walked in. As soon as I entered, the older gentleman behind the counter looked directly at me and then immediately turned away without saying a word. He wasn't helping anyone at the time. I walked around the store for a while and noticed a young woman cleaning items nearby. Not once did she greet me or ask if I needed help. When I was looking at the driftwood display, she walked by, so I asked a question. She gave me what felt like a dirty look, gave a very quick answer, and walked away. I initially thought maybe she was busy helping other customers, but that didn't seem to be the case. What made the experience worse was what happened next. While I was still browsing near the entrance, several other customers walked in. Every single one of them was greeted by the gentleman behind the counter. I hate to even bring this up, but it left me wondering why my experience was so different. I'm a Hispanic male with tattoos, and every other customer who was greeted appeared to be white with no visible tattoos. I truly hope that wasn't the reason, but I honestly can't think of another explanation for the difference in treatment. Either way, it was disappointing. I had specifically chosen to visit a local specialty shop because I wanted the advice and expertise that comes with it. Instead, I left feeling unwelcome and will likely just go to a big box store instead--something I was hoping to avoid. I hope this isn't the normal experience for customers, but it was certainly mine today.

From the second we arrived, Dr. Pearson and the entire care team--Megan, Ethan, and Nicole (the CEC)--were absolutely incredible. They provided top-tier medical care for our girl, but what I appreciated most was how they handled my wife and me. We were in a total state of panic, and they stayed calm, kept us informed, and treated us with so much empathy. It's rare to find a team that can balance high-level emergency medicine with such genuine bedside manner. Dr. Pearson is a total pro, and the nursing staff made us feel like our pup was their only priority. If you're in the Austin area and find yourself in a pet emergency, this is the only place I'd trust.

He's a now utterly precious almost six month old Havanese (which is the sturdiest of the toy breeds, by the way), and, about a month ago, we knew that we needed to shop around for the perfect groomer for our little guy! We read that puppies with high maintenance grooming needs should be brought to the groomer very young to start getting socialized to the whole experience, so we started checking out different spots to find the one that we most trusted to begin this process with. Hubby and I, of course, scoured the Yelp reviews and began investigating the various highly-rated places around us in North Austin. We brought our then five pound baby along for the ride, and it wasn't until we stepped into Hair O' The Dog Grooming Salon that we knew, without a single solitary doubt, that this was the one! It was just the way that they lovingly grabbed him out of my arms and started showering him with kisses and cuddles! Everyone else had been so cold and matter of fact, but the ladies here were just so warm and enthusiastic, and Yeti was a happy little wiggle butt in all of their arms. Love at first sight, all the way around! They knew exactly what was needed, and they offered me a white board and marker to make communication with them a breeze! We scheduled his first puppy experience for that next Saturday at 9:30am, and they showed me the large kennel on the floor right by the action where they would let Yeti observe from at first. They encouraged me to bring his blankets, treats, and toys to deck out his space, so you know that I totally did! He came out of that first experience (just some very gentle maintenance grooming) so buttoned up and, most importantly, happy as a clam! They even sent me a picture of him in a zombie apocalypse, which was too adorable (see my pics). I threw it right up on social media, naturally! They then scheduled his first real cut for the next month, which is today, so here we are at home waiting for our little dumpling to be ready. The awesome ladies over there have been communicating regularly, and they just sent me his before picture! This review has already gotten ridiculously long, so I'll just leave you with this: I have zero nerves or fears about our precious puppy being in their hands right now, and that is HUGE. The energy there is beautiful, and this is one of those places that I would happily give more than five stars to, if I could! I'll pop the after pictures up when we get him. He always loved the groomers here and he comes back energetic like a weight is lifted off of him. When I moved to South Austin I tried a couple other groomers closer to me but didn't realize they used clippers and weren't doing a thorough job so his double coat got very compacted. We returned to this groomer and he is back to his old self. They did an amazing job deshedding him, got his fur feeling soft and fluffy again, and answered all my questions over text. It is so worth the drive and we don't intend to bring our dogs anywhere else again.

Before the appointment, I gave clear instructions to park behind my apartment and even confirmed with my building that they were allowed to stay for up to two hours. Despite this, they repeatedly called and texted me confused about where to park, sending photos of signs that said "no parking." I reassured them multiple times that they had clearance and there would be no issue. After coordinating everything, I carried my 18-pound cat down 18 floors to meet them in the back alley--only to find that they had left. They then told me they refused to proceed due to the "risk" of getting fined. I was left standing in an alley holding my cat while juggling calls from multiple numbers trying to coordinate between dispatch and the groomers. I even offered to meet them at a nearby parking garage if that made them more comfortable, but they refused. If you advertise service in downtown Austin, you should be prepared to handle the realities of parking in that area. This was a complete waste of time and incredibly frustrating. I would not recommend this company.
