I imagine this is a deli with an "off season" being so out of the way and I figure I just experienced it; if I lived in this neighborhood though, I reckon I'd be here on the regular for the sheer convenience. I like the small town deli feel for sure. The staff is friendly,l and the sands which was good. The chicken cutlet could have been fresher but I'm not complaining. I just can't wait until I can grab some more from them when I drop my kayak in down the road this upcoming season!

Words can't explain this deli, gee I don't even know where to start. I've tried numerous times to give this place the benefit of the doubt because it is secluded in a great little town in great river. Well today on the Fourth of July decided to order the very basic sausage and Swiss on an everything bagel. Now mind you when we called and requested that sandwich, the response was like as if you asked for something from Mars. The response was umm what kind of sausage... as if there were a selection of sausages here lol!! Our response was yeah the frozen ones you have and it was like oh umm ok yeah...but in any event here's the lovely sandwich people. I mean when there making their food my god don't they look at it and say to themselves, would I eat this thing!! I mean take a look at the amount of Swiss cheese on this thing!!So here you go folks I'll let you decide for yourselves!

It's a quaint neighborhood deli with over 100 years of history, which is why I kept giving it chance after chance. I've ordered from this deli many times. They have frequently gotten my order wrong, but I never complained. I simply accepted it and moved on. On Father's Day, I ordered three egg sandwiches around 10:00 a.m. I arrived at 10:30 to pick them up and still waited another 15 minutes. After spending about $35, the order was wrong. Again, I let it go. Today was the final straw. I ordered two egg sandwiches and a small deli iced tea for delivery. The total was $33 before tip. The owner, John, delivered the order himself. He rang my Ring doorbell twice but never knocked. We completed the exchange without issue. When I opened the bag, the order was wrong--again. I called and politely asked to speak with the owner. I explained that my order had been made incorrectly. Instead of trying to resolve the issue, John hung up on me. I called back three more times, and each time either he or his staff hung up on me. I drove to the deli to speak with him face-to-face. His response was simply, "That's unfortunate," and he refused to remake the sandwiches or offer any refund or solution. Everyone makes mistakes. What separates a good business from a bad one is how those mistakes are handled. I wasn't angry about an incorrect sandwich--I was shocked by the complete lack of customer service, accountability, and basic respect. After years of overlooking mistakes and trying to support a local business, this experience has guaranteed I will never return. There are plenty of delis that appreciate their customers and stand behind their service. Unfortunately, Maple St. Deli isn't one of them.

That said, we were greeted by the bartender as soon as we entered, and served promptly. They do give free popcorn too which is a nice touch these days. Prices are average for LI, maybe even slightly lower than average. Narragansett pint and a local citrus hoppy one came to...I think $15-16. It has that classic, dark feel inside. Can only imagine how it was back in the smoking days. Good selection of beer and liquor. As for wine, I saw Corbett Canyon swill being poured. At least it was from a magnum bottle and not a box. Probably the same product. So "avoid wine and you'll do just fine" if you're in the area and want a drink here. Can't comment on the food. It's cool to see how booze can help bring people together (and not just destroy). For example, an older gentleman came in and the bartender (believe his name was Jay) remembered his usual order of Heineken light and a whisky shot and had it ready quick while enjoying a shot with the patron. Perhaps we've found the fountain of youth after all.
