Fake or VERY enhanced photos and not representative of what I received. A 1955 double die claimed to be in bu condition actually turned out to be fake from China. And even if it had authentic , which it wasn't , the coin looked completely different from their photo . Read the reviews. Every single coin they sold me was cleaned or lower grade than what was advertised. They take horrible pictures that mischaracterize the coin or hide damage, grade the coin in their own titles "gem BU" or "Choice BU" etc., and then say that they don't grade raw coins and if you want an original coin buy certified. The 30 day return policy is only helpful if you realize you got scammed in those 30 days. I spent over $3k before I realized that every coin I bought was worth around 1/4 of the value that I paid. First of all, congrats to GSC for convincing Yelp to remove my original detailed review. This summary will be completely objective and to the point. The main issues with GSC: 1) They buy impaired coins -- e.g., cleaned, whizzed, tooled, etc. 2) They crack them out of their slabs and re-sell them a) without disclosing the known defects and b) advertising them with unsupportable grade claims (e.g., "BU++", "Gem", etc.) and misleading defect-hiding photography. 3) They maintain decent Ebay and BBA rating because they give buyers a 30 day return option, but of course that return policy only benefits buyers who know they were misled within that time window. 4) They make blanket disclaimers in spite of unsupportable item-by-item representations. For example, I've purchased coins with descriptions like "Brilliant Uncirculated BU" but when I complained that the coin is defective they hide behind their website disclaimer "We do not offer grades on raw coins, and we do not guarantee grades on raw coins." GSC needs to read their own ads. Evidence: The first picture below shows an example of a coin with no exposed flaws. The second picture is the actual received coin as pictured by PCGS. This is just one example of several in my short dealings with GSC. In my case, I sent this one coin (in it's new PCGS slab) to GSC and received a refund. GSC then turned around and cracked it out of its slab and relisted it again with the same misleading advertising. read more

BEWARE of overstated grading on the coins that they sell on eBay. I was stupid enough to trust them and it has cost me multi-thousands of dollars. Case in point #!: "1889 Morgan Silver Dollar. PROOF, Near Gem PF++, ULTRA RARE!!" I paid 2222.22 for it. Came back from PCGS as " PR Genuine, Rim Repaired, AU Detail. Value is about 100.00 !! Case in Point #2: 1887 Morgan Silver Dollar, Stunning Superb Gem PF++, only 710 PR". Paid 1860.00 from GSC. Came back from PCGS as " PR Genuine, Altered Surfaces, Unc Detail" Value is about 100.00. Many more instances will be forthcoming as I get more of their stuff graded. I have lost a small fortune by doing business with them and trusting their expertise. My original review was removed by Yelp for "privacy concerns." I guess naming the truly guilty is a Bozo No-No. Great Southern Coins is not happy that I've put their shoddy business practices on display for all to see. My Experience: On or about 4/24/14, I struck a deal over the phone with the "manager" to sell him 58 1996 American Silver Eagles. We agreed on price ($55) and condition (BU or better). I asked for and received an email outlining the conditions of our agreement. The coins arrived at Great Southern at approx noon on Monday 4/28/14. They did not call to tell me of their arrival. I called at the end of business on Tuesday. The "manager" told me they arrived, but were not "encapsulated." We went round and round without coming to a resolution. Early that evening, I sent the "manager" an email reminding him of the offer and acceptance of terms and the fact that nowhere in our agreement (or his email) did it state these raw coins were "encapsulated" nor were these coins sent for his "approval." I reminded him that under our offer and acceptance of terms we had a contract. But, I stated that in a spirit of cooperation that he could deduct $145 (approx $2.50/coin) for air-tites to "encapsulate" these coins. When I called the next day, the "manager" changed his story. He now insisted I misrepresented these coins. He further stated that he could not legally bind the company to buy or sell any item. He said the owner examined the coins and did not want them. I asked to speak with the owner. He was not in the store. I asked for the owner's name. The "manager" refused to give it. In the end, Great Southern Coin sent these coins back to me. They arrived on 5/3. I immediately took them to a Phoenix area coin dealer for grading. Their head numismatic buyer/grader stated that all these coins were BU (Brilliant Uncirculated) or better. In fact, he graded 10 of these 1996 American Silver Eagles as "Gem BU" I showed him the emails and this experienced coin dealer just shook his head in disbelief. After spending over $50 to insure and ship these coins, Great Southern Coins did not even have the courtesy to offer reimbursement of my expenses. Any businessman worth his salt will tell you that once someone has made you an offer and you've accepted it, you have a contract. Great Southern Coins has no problem with reneging on its agreements/contracts. My father taught his sons that "your word is your bond." To me, Great Southern Coin's "word" is worthless. As most collectors these days they aren't much in knowing how to tell the conditions of the coins and that why most are buying slabs. For what I just bought from Great Southern Coins the coin was described as almost gem BU, but to at the best would be and Unc. Too many hits on the face of the coin and also since I won the bid including shipping it was around $40. it would be pointless to send it back cause with my shipping cost I would loose. So many descriptions on the coin or coins and Not slab, then that is the base on the seller. We take the chance on what we get from the seller and if again if the price is reasonable with shipping cost, then that coin would be worth it as if you go out to your local dealer and buy it. This the second time I have bought from this company and the results is pretty much the same. Grading is not their best but again they are selling coins for a long time and yet so many positive rating that means many happy buyers. I am not here to put them down, just my thoughts as a long time collector who knows some things about grading and also read a lot of books in grading. So for you all plans to buy, you needs to know what you are buying and be expected in what you are getting. Just needed to warn people again after the recent "glowing" praises of Great Southern Coins, prompted by a listing today of an 1857 Flying Eagle Cent. GSC had it listed as Very Attractive BU++, which, in collecting lingo, should mean that it would grade out as Uncirculated, albeit in a lower grade (likely 60 or 61), assuming it had not been cleaned. Does ANYBODY at GSC with any grading knowhow even look at GSC's coin listings before they are posted? A purchaser of this Flying Eagle would be LUCKY to get it graded as AU (Almost Uncirculated) by any of the TPGs. EF45 would be a stretch! I have, in the past, sent GSC Emails questioning an advertised grade on a coin, and get the stock response: "It's just our opinion and everyone needs to make their own evaluation." Before buying from GSC, my advice would be: DO YOUR HOMEWORK! Please also see my Yelp review dated 5/9/17. Again, as I said in that review, they do stand behind their guarantee, if that is any consolation after you have forked out good money to send a coin of theirs to a TPG. read more

They have been known to take Graded Coins like an Detail Grade Cleaned AU Silver Dollar - Break the coin out of its graded case and then pawn it off on eBay as a GEM BU+++ Coin and get top dollar. They repeat this pattern over and over. Want to prove to yourself? Go to heritage auction ha.com or GreatCollections.com and look over their sold coins and then go to eBay and look at GreatSouternCoins Coins. Repeat bad guys and if you buy and return coin your negative feedback does not show up and they ban you from future bidding on their coins. Great Southern Coin Literally took my husband who is now deceased to the bank and robbed him blind. Every coin that he purchased was cleaned decreasing the value dramatically. I sent 8 coins to PCGS to be graded and all but one came back cleaned and one was harshly cleaned, also environmental damaged. None of this mentioned on the invoices. Things like Very Sharp Strike, Deep Patina, Neat die break, strong choice, are mentioned on invoices. I can't trust them to give me what I think is a great coin in great conditioned. read more

I've bought several coins from them on eBay. Not many, because they get bid up high out of my price range simply because they sell (in my opinion) very fine specimens, pristine, top notch coins. So far I have bought only Lincoln cents but both times the coins were way better than I have bought from other eBay sellers, a cut above. I purchased 2 $5 gold Indian coins from Great Souther Coin at auction. I keep detailed perpetual Inventory records and when it comes to expensive coins the Invoice is kept with the coin. PCGS determined that the 2 coins were counterfeit. When I brought it to the attention of GSC, the owner screamed expletives at me stating that he doesn't sell counterfeit coins. If anyone wants to hear his rants and raves just request them. My attorney has the recording and the email from GSC. read more

Be very wary of this company. It is one of the most deceptive sellers on eBay, mainly relying on their photography department, which is known by experienced coin eBayers as being the very best on the website, to misrepresent the coins and hide their flaws. Do not believe GSC when they say the coins are "uncirculated". I got one that was described "uncirculated" but graded as AU-50 (Details: cleaned), a decline in value of 70+%. For an unknown reason, coins sold by GSC, especially ones being bid on, are usually by far the highest on eBay for the quality you'll eventually get. I advise all eBayers to not buy coins from GSC if looking for value, and only buy if it's needed to complete a collection. I added a star for their return policy, but eBay itself has a more generous return policy that no seller can overturn anyways. However, GSC will accept the coins within 14 days without a fight, hence the 2 star rating. read more

Great Southern has a very consistent record of selling over-graded, over-described raw coins on eBay. Check their feedback- dozens of reviews that the major grading services grade the raw coins they sell as cleaned and/or polished. You do sometimes see them sell slabbed coins, but here too the coins are almost always over-graded by the major services. Otherwise, coins are cracked out of the slabs so they can use very creative photography to create the impression of a much better coin then in reality. On top of everything else, Great Southern has a long-standing reputation on eBay for shill-bidding their lots. Someone else here on Yelp mentioned not understanding why Great Southern gets so many bids on their coins, but the explanation is simple. Many if not most of the bids are placed by their own shill accounts to artificially raise the final prices. The way to figure this out is to look at any of their sales after completion. Most of the bids are placed by accounts where the majority of bids are placed on Great Southern auctions. This is why they do very few "buy-it-now" auctions. Shill bidding is much more profitable. Great Southern will tell you the frequent bidders are simply dedicated customers who keep coming back, but this is nonsense. Any legitimate firm on eBay doing honest business does not have this kind of bidding pattern on literally every sale, nor do they have bidders who only bid on just their coins. Some of Great Southern's shill accounts have bid an literally thousands of their eBay lots every month yet have relatively limited feedback. You don't get a lot of feedback when you are bidding only to inflate prices. Review 15 or 20 of their sales- you will see what I mean. Lastly, Great Southern will say that if they were over-graders and shill-bidders, then why is most of their feedback positive? This is true, most of their feedback is positive. No doubt some of the feedback is fake- when a shill account gets stuck winning an auction. Beyond that, let's face it, there are a lot of coin collectors with more money in their pockets than sense in their heads. read more

People seem to have expectations of this company that are unwarented. Bottom line, you can return any coin you do not like, no issues with refunds. Unhappy that a coin is cleaned? Don't buy unslabbed coins. It takes responsibility to buy unslabbed coins. It's not GSC's call, you can't predict what a grading service might say. The images are generally good enough to tell whether serious cleaning has occured. If you can't tell, and yet a gradable coin is important to you, buy slabbed coins. It is true that their "grading suggestions" are rather silly and frequently off; ignore them, look at the picture. Unlike some whiners I find their images are consistent: check out the lighting angles. They're not moving lights around to avoid defects. I was bummed when one coin I received had a "defect" but when I went back to review the image, there it was. read more

Sells coins with altered surfaces and markets them as problem-free on eBay. Has also been known to try and pass off a counterfeit coin as genuine on occasions. Be very leary of any dealings with this company if you are doing Internet or mail order dealings. Be very cautious and make sure you have bonified recourse available to you if something goes wrong. read more

I bought a "raw" (uncertified) 1923-S Walking Liberty Half Dollar from GSC. They described it as "GEM BU ++". It looked nice in the photograph (more on that later) & I paid the hefty sum of $1,970 for it. All of the coins in my collection are PCGS certified. PCGS said their '23-S Walker was improperly cleaned & CIRCULATED. I returned it for a full refund. After 3 weeks & 5 phone calls (tons of aggravation) they finally credited my PayPal account. Subsequently, will they break this cleaned coin out of it's PCGS holder & try to sell it as a GEM BU++ again?; only time will tell... A word on their photography; it is done in black & white and is difficult to accurately assess the coins true grade. Most eBay sellers allow for their coins to be zoomed (magnified). GSC doesn't. This should raise a red flag if you're a buyer of raw coins. My advice: read their negative feedback on eBay before making a purchase from them. After reading some of these reviews, I can relate. I used to buy coins from this company, GREAT SOUTHERN HOLDINGS, LLC., but stopped about a year ago because I had too much trouble with them. They are quick to send, but VERY slow to return and refund...and my experience was that they would use every tactic they could think of to delay the refund process, and it took PayPal to intervene...but first things first. 1. NEVER take anyone's word on the grade or condition of the coin being sold. I found that this company seems to ALWAYS overgrade. Choice BU's come as AU's...and although their photography is very good, always use your computer's own abilities to enlarge the photo by saving to file, then open the new file and enlarge. INSPECT...but if you do get a coin that is not what you expected, then just return it. GSC has a 30-day return policy. Wait to leave feedback after you are completely satisfied. If not satisfied with the entire process, then leave negative feedback if they give you trouble. 2. Do your research. Know your coin. PCGS has a great website with PhotoGrade as well as values. I've seen coins sold on GSC for THOUSANDS more than what the coin is worth, and I've seen coins bought for thousands less. Set your limit before bidding, and bid no more than what you feel comfortable with. Always remember...it's returnable. Once you get the coin, scrutinize it like there's no tomorrow. If you have reservations, return it. 3. Returns are another story....and the reason I stopped buying from them. Most of the time on small purchases, you get a fairly timely refund. The more costly the coin is, the longer it takes. Most of these times, you have to wait up to three weeks before you can get eBay to step in. Once you engage eBay, then the refund is forthcoming. All this caused me is to come to two conclusions. 1. They are financially in trouble. and/or, 2. They are totally overwhelmed by the sheer amounts of coins being returned. Be warned. 4.
