I called up to notify them and they weren't cooperative, they were rude and said that they will not do anything about unless I came there right away. While driving through Catskill on a late Saturday night, I decided to stop for Chinese takeout, choosing between Great Wall Chinese Restaurant or the more visible Long River Chinese Restaurant across the street. I decided to go with the first choice and get that "blue nugget" too! Great Wall Chinese Restaurant is a typical Chinese takeout place, which is not very visible from the main road (US Route 9W) and hidden away on the north side end of the Grandview Plaza in Catskill, behind Dunkin Donuts. This old school place is order at the counter with open kitchen and a few tables in front of the counter for eating in. The menu offerings here include the standard Chinese dishes/items including Cantonese, Szechuan and Chef's specialties. The prices here seem very reasonable with each item/dish priced under $10 before tax. 31 Lunch Specials ($4.50-$4.55) with roast pork fried rice are served before 3PM and 19 Special Combination Plates ($6.65-$7.15) with roast pork fried & egg roll are offered. I ordered the C12 Chicken Lo Mein ($6.95) with roast pork fried rice & egg roll and Steamed Dumplings (8 for $4.70). The food was hot and ready to go in about 12 minutes after ordering. The lo mein dish had a mix of soft pieces of boneless chicken, scallions, onions, cabbage and soft noodles. The fried rice had a firm texture with a mix of golden rice, tender lean roast pork pieces and onions. The egg roll was stuffed with a mix of shredded cabbage, ground pork, & seasonings with a thick firm deep fried wrap on the outside. The dumplings consisted of ground pork mixture rolled in balls and stuffed in a thick dough pocket, soy dumpling sauce on the side. Tasty crunchy fried noodles with duck sauce was also provided in the bag. The food overall tasted pretty good and fresh and there was enough food for another dinner for the next evening. read more

The WORST garbage I ever remember receiving from any type restaurant. I should have guessed when the front of the restaurant was still set up for covid, order through a small opening pay through a small opening. The food was so bad that even though I have a 10 mile drive I was tempted to return it the next day to tell them how crappy it was. I didn't, but I discovered that even the raccoons wouldn't eat it. Save your money go somewhere where the quality isn't so absolutely terrible. Two dishes, one pork, one chicken. Both dry, bith with hideous seasoning. The chicken clumped together in a great mass that required a fork and knife. White rice probably a day old. EVERYTHING WAS INEDIBLE. read more

This is our "cheap" standby for takeout Chinese food locally. The veggie egg rolls are crisp and consistently good. I get the fried bean curd and broccoli in garlic sauce, which is a little spicy, but nothing crazy. It has a good flavor. My kids, without fail, get sweet and sour chicken with no complaints. My husband likes the wonton soup. Portions are generous, I always make 2 meals out of an entree. read more

Great Wall, Great takeout! The dining room is small but clean and someplace you could eat if you wanted to, but take out works better. I'm a fan of authentic Chinese cuisine and this doesn't quite make it there for most dishes, but for American-Chinese food, you can't beat what you get for the price! In a word...Consistency. We've been getting our chinese food itch scratched here for a dozen years. If you've had something here before, when you order it again it will be just as you remembered it. Whether it's the BEST chinese food on the planet or not is completely subjective....however, knowing and counting on the fact that what you order will be just how it came last time is very important. Of course everyones had better elsewhere at one time or another.....but for a local place that's extremely convenient and delicious.....Great Wall Is certainly worth checking out . read more

Leaving my evening class in Hudson tonight, I was hungry but didn't feel like driving home to cook. I stopped here not too long before it closed for the night. All of the staff was sitting down eating their dinner and I apologized for showing up late and interrupting them, but they were accommodating and very friendly. I couldn't find many vegetarian options on the menu, but the woman pointed me to a few things. One was a Buddha's Delight, a mix of tofu and vegetables. I asked if she could make it spicy. She did. To be honest, I never expect much from American Chinese restaurants - especially take outs. I've eaten Chinese food in China and Hong Kong, and the only food that gets close to that is in Chinatown in Flushing. But I was pleasantly surprised by the food I ate from here. I can't vouch for anything other than what I ate tonight, but what I ate was good. Not greasy, not salty. It was fresh and flavourful. Enough so, that I ate all of it - even after I was full :( when usually I eat Chinese take out to fill a craving, and then I get grossed out and throw it away. Stay clear of this place and here's why..........We picked up an order last night. One shrimpy (as in small) shrimp egg roll - one piece of shrimp in it and dryer than a bone). Shrimp with Lobster Sauce with waaay over-cooked shrimp; house fried rice that had meat chewier than beef jerky; Four Seasons (one of their chef specialties) with again over-cooked seafood. The veggies were okay. Oh, and this all added up to nearly $40.00 and because we spent that much we were offered a free 2 liter bottle of Sam's Club soda (which retails for about 89 cents). read more
