My most favorite Cole Haan's were in dire need of repair. I simply was not ready to part ways with them. Stopped by Great Western Boots on a day off from work and was greeted by the owner. I presented said shoes to him and after an assessment he let me know he could repair. I paid in full, got my ticket and awaited the call from him that they were ready. Beautiful day when I returned to pick up my beloved heels. I was refunded cash as the job didn't require as much work as initially anticipated. Subsequently I used some of that cash to purchase leather cleaning and preservation products. Coming to Houston 30 years ago, I have found it rare to have such honest small businesses to work with, when I do...I'm a customer for life. Lucky me, I found Great Western Boots near my work. It only took a week - my soulless boots transformed to a queen sitting on a throne. The beauty speaks for itself. I had an opportunity to chat with the owner David Santisteban. He started his repair shop 35 years ago and they have been at this location for at least a decade. I also learned that they custom make wallets, boots and leather goods. I came back one day to inquire about my boots and saw how he organized their workload. From the counter, I saw a leatherworker was concentrating on hammering a heel onto a boot. I peeked at the cardboard boxes overhead, which were sorted by day of the week - very good system. The price is so reasonable and I feel like to go out to hunt for more bargain boots. read more

I don't usually take the time to write reviews, but I've got to give David a good word. Had a pair of Johnston & Murphy dress shoes broken in and needed a place to replace the worn heal and soles. Thought the shoe repair places near me would be fine, but they had some less than stellar reviews. I was concerned with the store name having a focus on boots, could they do a good job on shoes too? Also, went a little out of my way to go to Great Western Boots. In the end I was very glad I chose them. Had shoes done in 6 days (over Labor Day weekend) as quoted. They fit and feel great! I put my full quills through a lot of abuse and have had to have them resoled twice. My son spilled syrup all over them and it sat for a few weeks, I thought for sure they were done. I took them to the "hospital" where they told me I could just dye them black. A friend recommended Great Western Boots and I am so glad I took them there. The owner of the shop, David, was up front and honest as to what he may be able to do to repair them. I got them back today and they are like new! The repair was about a third of the cost of my previous repairs and he had them turned around in about a week instead of the 4-6 weeks the "hospital" had them previous times. I came across Great Western Boots by recommendation from Cavender's. I dropped off my boots on a Saturday afternoon to have cleaned/polished. The owner said they would be ready on Monday, 2 hours later I get a call saying the boots are ready.
