Working with Great Western Flooring was a most unpleasant experience and we would definitely not repeat it. We installed a beautiful, wood and wrought iron staircase, costing $10,000, and wanted a beautiful, high-quality runner installed for safety. Our interior design decided to work with Great Western Flooring. The salesperson, Kate, chose a cheap, unflattering installation method, that left gaps on the staircase. When we complained about how it was installed, she wanted us to spend even more to have it installed correctly! We were SO disgusted with the installation experience and quality of the carpeting, we decided to remove it. It had so many redundant nails and the quality of the carpeting was so poor, nothing could be salvaged. So the entire runner was trash. Here is what putting $1600 in the trash looks like. As an update, the company refused to do anything about this mistake of a remodel. Instead, I had to pour in time and money with a competent contractor who showed me exactly where Great Western Flooring went wrong. He even told me he has contractor friends who refuse to work with them knowing how badly they treat their contractors, as well as their customers. This was stunning to hear from a reputable, top shelf contractor in the area. Also found out Steve Chirico (former Naperville mayor) owns and runs this company. What a joke of a human to treat his own community this way. Shame on him. read more

Stay away - shop elsewhere. We ordered flooring through the Costco program. Sales process with Matt was fine; he was responsive and we appreciated the selection available. Service and responsiveness after the order was installed was quite poor - very different from what you see during the sales and scheduling process. The installation experience was far below expectations. Installers arrived at 8am and left after 9pm - a 13+ hour day. Not surprisingly, quality at the end of a day that long was poor. An installer stepped in caulk and tracked it throughout the basement. Installers refused to install trim pieces that were discussed and ordered with Matt - only after arguing did they agree to install pieces that were already on site and included with the order. Two stair tread pieces were cut crooked, and it took months to get those replaced. When replacing the mis-cut stair pieces, installers left the walls scraped and damaged. Once everything was finished, I wrote to Lauren (President) to share the experience. What I received back suggested that their team had reasons for everything that went wrong, and that maybe our expectations were the issue. No acknowledgement that this experience differs from what Great Western aims to provide, so I take that to mean our project was an OK result by them. It's certainly not an experience that I would want others to have. Ordered flooring and carpet thru Costco. Had bathroom tile removed which was a total mess. Even items downstairs fell.off shelves. Floor molding done fast and did not match up. Took toilet off but had to have a plumber put back on since it was higher than floor due to old tile. Another expense. Carpet on stairs had a slight pattern and was installed crooked. We needed a runner for our hardwood stairs because we kept slipping and falling. I was so nervous about picking a pattern because most carpets are gaudy, "traditional" style. Lauren and Shay set aside a ton of samples for me at the Naperville store to look at and even let me bring them home for a few days to hem and haw over. I'm in love with the pattern we ended up choosing! The measurement process was quick and easy - Shay came to our home and was done in 15 minutes, and even took the carpet samples back to the store for us. Installation was also very painless; they were done in about 2 hours and left the unused material for us, which Lauren offered to turn into a matching area rug. We couldn't be more thrilled with the work of Great Western Flooring. We had a badly stained and deteriorated floor in our home resurfaced. We weren't sure it was salvageable but we gave it a try. We also had cheap fiberboard ripped out of the closet floor and replaced with wood. Tony Moralis was the crew lead and he worked near 7 hours almost non-stop carefully and thoroughly doing the work. We used Great Western Flooring Co. for our carpet installation. The carpet installation itself went pretty smoothly but there a few things we weren't happy about: 1. We end up with a lot of extra carpet (13 inches by 9 inches) and was told that we can not return it. This means we paid almost $500 extra. There was on-site measurements and consultation so I honestly don't know why there is such inaccurate measurements. 2. We were promised that the floor gap will be significantly reduced, but it was not. I have emphasized several times during the consultation that this is what i cared about a lot since it imposes a tripping hazard, and it was promised to be reduced significantly after the carpet installation, but it was not. We feel lied to and there is no response from the company after several email. read more

Reason, the tech has "medical emergency" and no one is able to cover him. The earliest I could reschedule was a week later. (I live outside the town, hence I could not take the appointment 4 days later). Mr Victor shows up next week. Limited product choices if you go through Costco flooring program. Anyways, no quotes have been received from Victor, and it has been two weeks. I tried following up, he claims to be"very busy" or "I don't have your email address". Seriously? All contact information was exchanged at the time of measurement. If you are too busy, then don't accept new clients. I am usually very trusting in products and services of Costco, but this will be one big exception. Mr Victor, people are on deadline. They aren't going to wait indefinitely for you especially when they are paying for the service. read more

A friendly WARNING!! Great Western is a wolf in sheeps clothing! The salespeople were professional and friendly, but don't expect to see them again once they have your deposit. The communication within this company is HORRIBLE!! The installers speak broken English and have no idea what the expectations are that you addressed with your salesperson. Maybe you could overlook that, if the installation was done properly? But it was not. Scratches on doors, floor squeaks NOT remedied, furniture removed poorly and replaced in the wrong rooms, electrical mishaps emitting black smoke out of outlets, stain color different along the baseboards than the rest of the floor and POOR attitudes are sadly things that we encountered. read more

I don't know, why I did not check the review of this business before engaging them. I believed in Costco and that is one of the reason, as Costco service has been great and I always assumed that their association is with best service providers. I was wrong. I spent close to $11K on hardwood flooring with Great Western Flooring. I did not shop around and selected them purely based on Costco referral. There were many things that went wrong: Sales person came and did the measurement; he ordered way too many flooring expecting wastage (I am sure, I paid for the flooring and installation for unused items) There were more than 2 boxes of wood remains. I was told that warehouse will process refund only if it is more than 100 SF (anything less can be picked up as a goodwill effort at no cost - what a deal?) The color of base shoes were ordered wrong - white as opposed to cherry. When speaking with the sales person - it was made apparent that it was my problem and not his. They brought neutral colored base shoes and made me run to the store 4-5 times to get a matching stain. when none of them worked: I had 2 options - either place and order and wait for 4-6 weeks to resume the work or go with their neutral colored base shoes. I ended up making another trip to Menards and bought the base shoes with matching cherry color; which costed me more than $120... they finally refunded me about $100 for unused base shoes. I am sure, they must have charged me much more than that but I did not understand their calculation for the refund amount. Air vents was another problem - sales person never offered me these at the first place while placing the order. When installation crew came back they asked me whether I would like to leave the old vents in its place. that's when I realized that the sales person did not ask and we never realized. Again, the issue seems to be mine and not the sales person as in addition to the cost of Air Vents (which is in the range of $75 - $90 each), I have to pay minimum charges for the crew to visit my home again in 4-6 weeks. After several negotiations and favor from the sales person, I was quoted one price.. It was at a point where my house is a mess (old carpet gone and new hardwood half done); I paid them the asking price. After 6 weeks, an installer came to install the air vents. I thought, finally all done... But, he brought 2 air vents less. He installed what he got and took 1 with him to match with others at the warehouse and promised to come back yesterday. I was home the entire day but no one came. I am not sure, how this company with such a service is still in business. Whenever, I have to spend few hundred dollars, I always check on the reviews... but, when I was spending thousands I did not and that has caused me such a grief. STAY FAR AWAY. You do not want a company in this much disarray having access to your home or doing work there. There is complete disorganization and lack of communication happening between the warehouse, laborers and everyone else I have spoken with at this mess of a company. I have not gotten a consistent message from anyone. I paid $10,000 for vinyl flooring through the Costco program, thinking anything through Costco is trustworthy and well vetted. BOY WAS I WRONG. First, mess: I am originally told that because it was such a big job (whole house project, demo of existing floor in addition to installation) they were going to drop off and start the project on the same day, yesterday Friday 6/2 and continue work onto Saturday 6/3. I receive email confirmations of a 6/2 start date. So I arranged my entire work schedule to be home to start this project yesterday, put most of our stuff into storage, cleared my house of any personal belongings (as instructed), and bought breakfast and beverages for the crew. I am ready to go. Imagine my surprise on 6/2 when a single laborer in a small SUV arrives and informs me he was instructed by Great Western to drop off the product only, not start the project today as I was scheduled. He doesn't know when they are supposed to come back to actually install it. Umm what?! I immediately call Great Western and I am informed that the laborers were double booked (if this so actually the case, why wasn't I called ahead and informed my work would no longer start at the scheduled time?!?!) and they would start on Monday. I reminded him that he told me Friday into Saturday is what I am SCHEDULED FOR, but for some reason he has to call me back to make sure they can start on Saturday instead. He calls me back and informs me that will start Saturday, today. So the crew arrived today and immediately sees that the things I discussed with the salesperson and was originally quoted for when I sat down with him at my home, most importantly the underlay, and are not included in my order and they cannot start work at all because they don't have the proper materials. I am told explicitly by the laborers that the floor cannot be installed without underlayment, which is obvious in seeing how thin and flimsy the floor itself is. In fact, these men they sent to do the job are not comfortable starting the work at all because it is a way bigger project than they were scheduled for. HOW IS THIS HAPPENING?!?! Great Western measured and walked through my home themselves, I have a quote detailing the work required and I paid 10,000... how exactly was this information not passed along to the men doing the work?!?! So I paid $10,000 and am left with NOTHING. This company is a waste of your time, energy, and money. read more

I will never work with or recommend Great Western Flooring Company. I was contacted by Matt Lynch, who is their wholesale rep, after putting in an inquiry through the Costco Flooring program (after a great experience at another house I own). We had an appointment set for 5/27 at 6PM and he no call no showed and didn't respond to emails, texts or calls. The next morning he said he couldn't come out until after the holiday as he was out of town (so basically he blew me off to go out of town early for Memorial Day). Now I am going to miss my deadline, as I was counting on GWFC to get a project done in a tight window that Matt said they could meet if I had made a decision that same day. I called customer service to see if another rep could come out and meet me, and the guy I spoke with said that not only was Matt the only person with Costco samples, but that it's a "Ghost town in their offices around holidays" and that he was the only one there. I then reached out to Lauren Voit, who is the President of the company. She apologizes and said that Matt was the only one with samples, but that she would come out and measure, and that if I knew what I wanted material-wise (which I did), we could still get an order in and meet my deadline. She was going to meet me the afternoon of 5/28, which I was impressed with, until she emailed me back saying that she didn't realize that I was in Yorkville (which is only about 20 minutes from Naperville) and said that she wouldn't be able to meet me because of where I was at (even though she already had the address in the email chain below). I would absolutely recommend that you use ANY other flooring company, and not these people. They lack attention to detail, and are very unprofessional. We had great western flooring install new vinyl tile a year ago. After a few months it started to separate. We called them and they sent out two crew members to fix that. Shortly thereafter the tile started to crack off at the edges. They sent out a field manager to inspect the tile and take photos and take a sample of the tile also. He got back to us and said that the tile was defective. They said they would pay for a new installation and new tile and reinstallation of the toilets and to paint the base shoe as well. The tile was on back order so we waited about 3 months to get it. We realize that is common today to have to wait for things. That was not a problem. Just last Thursday they sent out two crew members and they started the job upstairs they tore up the old tile and remove both toilets in the two bathrooms. They put one toilet and one bathtub and one toilet and one shower and after an hour and a half they told my wife that they could not finish the job because the tile was not installed properly. So we were left with no shower and no bathtub and two toilets that were not hooked up. After repeated phone calls they finally sent the plumber out to reinstall one of the toilets so we would have a toilet upstairs and one shower working. They said they would get someone out on Monday 4 days later. Monday came and a crew of four came out along with the supervisor. He looked over the flooring and said that it was not installed properly in the first place. He said they would get the job completed by the end of the day. And the plumbers would come at their cost to reinstall the toilets. He also said there were painters coming at the end of the day to paint the base shoe so we would have no out-of-pocket expense because this was due to a defect in the tile. Everything went well except the painters never showed up. And they were missing a piece of threshold. We got a hold of the service department and they said they would not paint the base shoe even though we have an email in writing that said they would. They offered us a $50 credit toward painting but they backed down on their word. I think it's called a lack of integrity. We got an estimate to paint the base shoe and fill in all of the nail holes and it was 495. I guess the $50 isn't going to be much help and we are still missing the threshold. Service will not get back to me. I asked for a copy of the installation order so we would have them because we were promised a new one year warranty. Once again no response. We spent close to $5,000 on Floors and we have a $500 bill to paint the base shoe no threshold and we were let around and deceived. Up to you if you want them for your company. read more

We were also told the excess tile was returnable to store. We had leftover tile in bundles as well as unused listels which they did not allow for return, not even for store credit. This company is a fraud. They gave me a quote to pull the carpet in my business to then install vinyl floors. I wanted them there may be additional carpet below the first layer of carpet. On the day of install they discover there is and slap a thousand dollar extra fee to rent a machine to excavate padding glued to the floors. This company is far from professional. They are in the business of making money by executing multiple jobs at the same time. While my project was under way half the team disappeared one day to go work on another job in Naperville. Do not even think for a minute because they are a subcontractor of Costco that they will be honest in their quote and do a stand up job. They damaged my walls and base boards. The list goes on. We went to this location last July 3rd 2015 as we wanted to replace our carpet to either hardwood or laminate. We are shopping around for costs and materials. We were greeted by LJ Studniarz one of the design consultant, she pointed us to the laminate section because that was what we asked for. As we started to look at each samples, we decided laminate is not what we want. So we went to the hardwood section and decided to take home some samples. we were told that we need to return the samples back. We took 5 huge samples that are displayed in the floor which was really, really heavy. No one bothered to open the door for us or even help us carry the samples to our car. We return July 6th 2015 with the samples and hoping someone can come and do estimates. The dates that i gave to LJ was July 17-18 & 24-25 but she said she's off during the weekends so someone else will probably come by to do the estimates. she even mentioned that the earliest they can do was 9am which is not a problem for me. She said she will call the following day to confirm the date, time and the name of the person who will do it. Today is August 12th and I have not receive a call yet. The product seems of good quality but customer service and follow through is terrible. Not going back to this place. read more

I was very disappointed with Great Western Flooring's blaming me for their poor installation and selling me a product that never should have been installed in my basement. We thought everything was fine when we arranged installing hardwood flooring on our stairs and throughout our upper level. LJ came out to the house, measured the space, discussed the movement of furniture from our upper level to our lower level and finalized the contract accordingly. Then the installers showed up. They refused to move the furniture downstairs. We called their supervisor who reaffirmed that they would not be moving any furniture downstairs even though there was a charge in the contract for doing exactly that. So in order for them to start work, my husband and I had to quickly move three bedrooms worth of furniture downstairs by ourselves. I asked the workers to block off the downstairs with plastic so as to limit dust. After several days, I just went out and bought plastic sheeting and blocked the living room, etc myself. I also had to ask them to block the cold air returns upstairs to reduce the dust throughout the house. Back to Day One. Lunch time. Suddenly, I smell food coming from upstairs. The installers had taken a microwave up to one of the bedrooms and cooked lunch! The next day I told them not to use the microwave in the house. I. Said that they could use it in the garage which did not go over well. The response I got was, "I don't know what difference it makes but if that's what you want. . ." Even using it in the garage, my upstairs still smelled from them eating in the bedroom. The floors are done. At first look, they appear fine. However, as one cleans them, there are spots where the finish is thin and dull. There is a spot in a closet where they sealed a small chunk of wood onto the floor. There are drips of finish on the riser of at least one step; I couldn't bear to look to see if there are more. Fortunately, I will be covering it with a carpet runner. Overall, it was a disappointing experience. I have already been asked by friends if I would recommend them. My answer is a resounding NO. read more

Their staff is knowledgable and was very helpful during the design phase of our custom home. I don't usually leave one star review but you certainly don't wanna deal with this company. Before we started this project, we had four quotes and Great western flooring is the highest. We hired them because we trust costco and we think the sales man Gerald is very professional but now it all feels like sweet talks to put your money into their pocket. We met him first time on 10/10/17. Our building is a high rise from 1960s. We were concerned that the tiles we want to remove are asbestos. Gerald took some pieces and said he would test it for us. Couple of days later he called and said it is not and we can remove those tiles, which turned out to be a lie as one day before the starting date he suddenly said he doesn't what the tiles are and we will have to do leveling instead of removing them. Before we sign the contract he also assured us they could finish before December as we had a Baby coming in January 2018. But in the end it turned out that he asked us to sign the contract and make the payment before he gets approval from our building engineer and our whole plan had to be canceled because he doesn't want to follow our building code. He didn't send out the paper work and insurance info until one day before the starting date. I had to do all the communication and Our office said this usually should be done several weeks ahead. We had to find a new lease in a very short time because we cannot move into our building any more, which is $2000 a month. And he asked for $5800 more for the new plan that we simply could not afford any more. Great service. We had carpet installed in our 3 bedrooms. I called to get a 2nd quote after I went to a chain carpet store. Great Western Flooring quoted me a lower price and emailed me the information quickly. Their stores are all in the suburbs and I just had a baby so I handled everything over the phone. I was skeptical to do this but they made the process so easy. The manager came to our place to measure our rooms. She came on the day and at the time we scheduled unlike the other vendor. The installers also came on time which is unheard of from everything I've heard from friends. My only complaint is that there are some rough edges where our bedroom and bathroom meet. I've never called to have it corrected so that's really my fault. read more
