Avoid this moving company at all costs. In the summer of 2019, we moved from Whitesboro, NY (near Syracuse) to Miami, FL. Since we had previous bad experiences with moving companies we did a lot of research before agreeing to use Greater Syracuse Moving and Storage, a company affiliated with North American Van Lines. We knew choosing a national company meant paying more, but due to the distance of the move, we wanted to be safe. Wow, were we wrong and were we greatly deceived. At first, when we met with the Relocation Sales Consultant, Ron Bruce, we were quite optimistic. He understood we had bad experiences in the past with other companies and guaranteed us that everything would go well. It is what he didn't tell us that, in retrospect, led to many of our issues. We agreed to a nearly $10,000 move and signed a contract. One piece of advice - these contracts are utterly useless. You have almost no rights and no control. They in no way are a legitimate contract. Buyer beware!!! The loading of our stuff in Whitesboro went quite well and the actual movers were quite professional. They arrived on time, treated everything with care, and were polite, respectful, and worked very hard on a hot day. The only concern we had was that the driver who picked up our stuff let us know he would not be the driver to deliver our items to us in Miami. He still set they would meet the delivery window time, but it would be a different driver. Though this seemed unusual to us - never in our previous moves did one driver pick-up and one driver deliver - but since everything went well so far we trusted them. Lesson learned: no matter how wonderful the actual movers are, NEVER trust a moving company. One hand is not working in tandem with the other hand. Then the disaster began. As we drove down to Miami we waited about five days since our items had been picked up from a call from Greater Syracuse Moving telling us the actual day of delivery. We finally called and they said they did not know yet and to call back after the weekend. This was a dance for a number of days and then they finally provided us with the date ... BUT ... only 2/3 of our stuff was going to be delivered. This made absolutely no sense to us. In numerous calls and emails to Ron Bruce and Move Coordinator, Melissa Scherzi, we learned that when our stuff arrived after being picked up at our previous home in New York if was moved off the truck and into storage. Then it was moved to a new truck that would be taking it down to Miami, but they ran out of room on that truck. SO THEY LEFT 1/3 OF OUR ITEMS BEHIND. Did they call us to let us know this, not a chance! They were never forthcoming with information, and in fact, I do not believe they ever initiated a phone call to us. In addition to learning we would not receive all of our stuff on the same day, we learned they did not know when the other 1/3 of our items would ever be delivered. They said they would let us know when they knew, but it would be past the delivery window we agreed upon when we signed the contract. Again, the contract means nothing. You have no rights, even though they provide you with a nice brochure telling you what your rights are supposedly. The first 2/3 of our stuff arrives. The movers were good and they worked hard. But a number of items were damaged. Many of our boxes were damaged and most of the wardrobes had caved in sides or the top. Clearly, our items were not treated with care. They had let us know that the items left behind in Syracuse were "not important" as they included mostly out-door furniture. Not true. Our beds were missing. Our dining room table was missing. Important boxes were missing. And important electronic items were missing. We still had no information on when the rest of our stuff would arrive. Finally, after repeated calls and emails we learned that a new truck had been assigned and would delivery our remaining stuff on July 4th - holiday. Plans had to be canceled. More importantly, since it was a holiday our pets couldn't be placed in boarding so we had to secure them in a bedroom all day when the movers were here. Not at all an ideal situation. So we finally had our stuff but numerous items were damaged - the dining room table, a bookshelf, 2 dressers, and a chair. This doesn't include the damaged boxes and wardrobes. Despite insurances over the phone and through email that we would be able to make claims for the late arrival and damages, in the end, we received $252 for damages and $0 for 1/3 of our stuff being delayed by more than a week. $252 refund on a nearly $10,000 moves is absolutely absurd. But as I said before, we had no recourse. So I turn to the Internet to share these facts so that future families do not have to deal with this corrupt and incompetent company. We had to use this moving company because they were the approved contractor for my father's company. So many things went wrong. Some of the lowlights included finding cigarette butts wrapped up in our belongings, discovering the movers had eaten cupcakes from a tin that was meant for the children's birthday party, stacked the dining room chairs on top of each other and the leg from one chair went through the back of another, stood on a dresser and broke through the top, ran over the ridge pole of a swing set and dented it, ran over a movie screen and wrecked it, gouged a hole in a dining room hutch. Then there's the flat-out theft: numerous garden tools disappeared, a new coat went missing. Legs to the sofa were lost. Someone else's items were mixed in with ours, and a bunch of other stuff... So yeah. Not a great experience. The movers paid for the repairs to some of the items. But only some. Moving is stressful enough without layering on bad service like this. read more

You need to hold Ron Bruce as a sales rep accountable as a rep for North American. Nothing he told us on moving happened. My house was scratched, banister scraped and my furniture was in a bad condition in their storage before the moving van came. The driver of the North American van says he has not seen this bad of a damaged load and that they need to stop this or business will go down. I have never had a worse customer service experience in my life. Our goods have been sitting in their warehouse for over three weeks now. Greater Syracuse Moving (North American Van Lines) is over two weeks late in delivering our household goods. We received no outbound (them calling us) updates except for when we were an hour from our new home to let us know our goods would not be there. John C. (Manager/Sales Person) did not respond to texts, voicemails, or emails. Our moving coordinator Melissa had no information to provide us. Greater Syracuse Moving continued to say that they cannot provide any compensation or discount because they are regulated by the Department of Transportation. This is not true!!! I made my way up to a senior customer account manager at the national North American Van Lines office and they were able to compensate us for each day it was late. We had a great experience with Greater Syracuse Moving for our recent move from Syracuse to Youngstown, OH. Great customer service from Melissa who provided me with a ton of packing paper and recycled boxes at no charge! The crew that loaded the truck in Syracuse was very good and packed the truck well. Our driver, Chris, was able to line up a good crew on the Youngstown end as well. We were a little surprised to see they were from a United agent rather than a North American one but it did not matter, they did a great job. We learned that the drivers often do not help load and unload but that was not our experience with Chris, he carried every bit as much weight (literally) as the other guys. The only thing that I was promised that did not happen was our upholstered furniture was not shrink wrapped but it didn't matter as the truck was very clean and everything came through in top shape. read more

The team at Greater Syracuse just did a great job for me. Jon was a great help with a difficult commercial white glove delivery. He was proactive and did a pre site visit and informed me the equipment specified would not be able to installed at my customers locations. He worked with my on site contact and myself to find a solution. Then when the equipment arrive at their warehouse if was freight damaged. His staff inspected the equipment noted the damage so we would not be stuck with damaged goods. When the replacements came in, he made all the arrangements with my sight contact and made the delivery. He then sent me an email (without being asked) letting me know the delivery was complete and even included pictures of the equipment setting in place. The chef was so happy he fed the entire delivery crew. I will definitely use them again for commercial equipment deliveries in the Syracuse area. read more

Please don't use these movers! Our company hired them for a corporate move. They charged them over $8000! Our stuff didn't come for a month and a half and when it did, they sent it in two random shipments. We had beds without bed frames, tables and chairs without legs. Entertainment unit without doors. Most of the wood and metal was scratched up or chipped. Everything was dusty from sitting in their warehouse! Bad customer service. When we called to ask where our shipment was, they had no clue (Melissa). She gave us the customer service number of the North American Van lines for us to find out. Why should a customer for a corporate full service move have to call the trucker to find where their shipment is? When the shipment arrived, they sent their guys without any tools. They had no clue that they were supposed to put together stuff and unpack for us! When we told them about the damage and missing screws and parts (Al), he says, "at least you got your stuff"! Please don't use these guys. We moved our stuff last time using other packers and movers and got our stuff in 5 days, without damage or anything missing! The most devastating experience! Many generations of family heirlooms..custom sterling dating well back into the 1800's..stolen. Not packed and numbered, but seems taken out of my deceased mothers home and slipped into a packers personal vehicle. The sentimental value was huge to me! I never thought about its monetary value but seems a packer did and likely had it all melted down or pawned. Still reeling from all this...so many generations of family history gone!! THE ABSOLUTE WORST EXPERIENCE I HAVE EVER HAD WITH ANY COMPANY, EVER!!! My wife and I contracted with this company to handle our relocation to South Carolina. We obtained two other quotes from national moving companies that had Syracuse area agents. This company's sales rep was the most professional (at the beginning) and his quote was competitive so we chose them. Their packers came on a Thursday to prepare our stuff to be loaded and moved the next day. They told us that several items that they did not pack, would be packed by the moving crew the next day. The following day, the truck came. There was a driver and three crew members. When they arrived, we showed them all of the items that they would and would not be taking. We noted clearly to all of them that the two closets in our guest bedroom were off-limits as they contained only items that we would be taking with us personally. Those items included my ipad as well as my wife's ipad. When we showed the driver the items that the packers told us his crew would pack, he told us that the packers should have prepared ALL items and he did not have any boxes. We then had to scramble to find boxes and tape-wrap smaller plastic bins shut. The crew finished loading and left with our stuff. About an hour later, I went to one of the guest bedroom closets to get my ipad. Both ipads were gone. I immediately called the company and explained the situation and was told that someone would call me shortly. Twenty minutes later, no call. I called back and was told that our ipads had been recovered and someone was coming to our house to bring them to us. I asked where they were found and was told "in a bag". I asked how they got into a bag when they were in an off-limits closet and was told "I don't know". I said that I needed to talk to someone who could tell me what happened and was passed off to the owner of the company. The owner also said "I don't know" when I asked how our ipads got into a bag. The only thing they could tell me was that the driver of the truck was returning to our house to bring us our ipads. When the driver arrived he got out of his car and immediately apologized and handed us our ipads. He proceeded to tell us that they confronted "the guy" (one of the crew) and that he had our ipads in a plastic bag. They fired him and kicked him off the property. I asked what happens now and the driver said that since this guy stole from us and not the company, we had to be the ones to press charges. We called the police and both us and the driver made statements. The officer pulled up multiple mug shots of the thief from different time periods. After the officer left, I called our sales rep. He apologized and told me that all employees of this company must pass a criminal background check. I asked him how that could be when his company clearly just brought a criminal into my home and that criminal stole my property. He just kept saying that the background check is pass or fail and he didn't know how this could have happened. The day before our stuff was to be delivered, the local driver in SC called my wife and said that he was very concerned about delivering my gun safe to our second floor apartment. I called him and told him that I understood his concerns as it is a 650 lb. safe but since the safe was clearly noted on the quote, it would need to be delivered as was agreed upon. He said that his dispatcher was trying to find a "specialty mover" to handle the safe. I then called my rep and told him what the driver said. The rep said that he would call him and find out what was going on. The rep called me about an hour later and told me that it was never mentioned that our apartment was on the second floor and since the local company would have to hire two more crew members to move the safe, I would have to pay an additional $250!!! I told him that whatever additional charges were incurred, they would need to be absorbed into the original quote. He simply said "they can't". At that point, I told him that he would need to speak to my employer as they were paying for the move. My employer spoke with rep and according to them, he was very nasty on the phone and accused my wife and me of calling him a liar. Avoid this company like the plague. They are a total scam and to say they are unprofessional, would be the understatement of the century. AVOID THEM AT ALL COSTS!!!! read more

The week prior to our contracted dates they called to tell us that they could no longer deliver on the original dates. They could care less about customers. CROOKS! STAY AWAY! I contracted this company to move my house 2 miles down the road. They sent some guys with an iPad to give me a quote. He quoted me $1,500 and said it was an easy job! I signed the quote and hired them. On moving day, they sent 4 guys, ( looked like they were released from prison), who fumbled the job so poorly. They kept complaining the whole time while our furniture was relatively easy to move. They used 4 letter words regularly in front of a 1 year old and a 3 year old. They smoked in my garage to avoid the rain then left cigarette butts all over. The house that we moved out of had so many scratches on the walls that I had to re-paint and the new house had 2 holes in the basement walls. When I showed them the damage they said "Don't worry, insurance will cover it" Not to mention a bed a a crib arrived broken and I could not reassemble them. What really got me is, at the end of the day they handed me a bill for $3,000. Twice the amount I was quoted! Later I tried talking to management for weeks after and as you can imagine, they weren't very helpful. My move by this company was a total nightmare! read more

I moved from Syracuse New York to Charlotte NC in October of 2018. This was the worst company I could have used. They started off very nice and everything seemed to go well with them coming to pack my 3 bedroom apartment. The questions I asked from the movers were which ones would be travelling on the truck with the furniture and they all said none of them but the driver would be in charge. To make a long story short when the truck arrived in NC I was very confused because the truck was no longer a North American Van Line but Allied Van Lines and the original driver from Syracuse was not here. I immediately called the office in Syracuse and they informed me that they are also affiliated with Allied and I said why was my furniture transferred to another truck (because I was never told this) and I was blatantly told she did not know why. I then said this needed to be looked into, but never received a response. Upon the delivery boxes were all torn and several items broken. I could look at the boxes and see that when they transferred the furniture from one truck to another that the boxes were just thrown. I in turn wrote the President of the company and never received a response. I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY!!!!! read more

Three days after picking up my belongings (which they had almost 2 months notice to plan on) they inform me that they are unable to deliver my possessions and have not idea of when they will be able to deliver them!!!!! Ron Bruce was very nice and gave me all the information I needed, he was very accommodating when it came to the dates I needed my things moved. Colleen Hynes in the office was awesome...super helpful and friendly. I was nervous about picking a moving company and got quotes from several places...Ron was the only one who came to my house and offered to take his shoes off before walking through which said a lot for me. The other companies couldn't compare to Greater Syracuse Moving & Storage/North American Van Lines. I would definitely recommend them and will choose North American whenever I move again (I'd choose Greater Syracuse if I could take them with me!) The move from hell. I'm familiar with moving, I've moved from New York to California and back, without significant problems. Greater Syracuse Moving and Storage couldn't even get my furniture out of the house without damaging 9 pieces. They didn't follow the North American guidelines, they didn't wrap the banister and handrail, and they didn't wrap my furniture before moving it. My Stickley now has white paint from the banister. They were too lazy to tape the electrical cords, and when they placed the night stands on top of each other, they gouged the top. They did wrap my winged chair with plastic, but that didn't stop them from ripping the fabric and damaging the wood. This was not cheap furniture that breaks easily. I'm not talking about a mistake, we all make them. I'm talking about a total disregard for my personal property. The North American driver delivering my furniture said "I haven't seen anything this bad in years; they can't keep doing business this way". He showed me his pages of comments, concerning the way he found the furniture at Greater Syracuse Moving and Storage. read more

The quote we received was very competitive and our final bill was actually $700 less than the estimate. Other companies had provided lower bids, but the estimate pounds were significantly lower than the Greater Syracuse bid. Our move was not without issues, but all matters were resolved to our satisfaction. We were promised a delivery date by our moving coordinator but were then told by the truck driver that the date would be three days later. This caused some logistic issues for us. We also had some major communication issues relating to damage done to the hardwood floors in the residence we were moving from. Ron at Greater Syracuse was great about being sure that we were put in touch with all the right people in the claims department to resolve this matter. Our belongings arrived at our destination safely, without any damage. I would recommend Greater Syracuse but would advise that you confirm the delivery date to avoid any misunderstandings. read more
