The sand space was expansive and we were happy to feel like we had our own private beach even though there were many other parties enjoying this area as well. We did not encounter any trash along our walk through the rolling hills of sand or by the ocean waves. There were some sketchy looking vehicles in the parking lot, but the beach is everyone's right, and we were not bothered by anyone during our time here. The bathrooms were clean and stocked with supplies. We would look forward to enjoying the beach at this location again.

I was visiting the Newport area on a very stormy weekend, and wanted easy parking, great views, and…read moreimmediate access to the beach. After a brief search online, a few reviews pointed to Lost Creek State Park just seven miles south of Newport. I decided to give it a shot! Just off the highway, visitors will find a medium sized parking lot with space for roughly 20-25 cars. Half of the parking spaces face the ocean with only a 4 foot fence between the parking lot and the bluff below. There are great views just from the parking lot! Immediately to the left visitors will find a paved path that goes downhill to a public restroom, with a fair number of very sturdy picnic tables that line the path all the way to the beach below. This site makes for a great place to stop for a picnic and enjoy the ocean views. The path to the beach isn't very steep, however the pavement is a little bumpy due to root growth below, as well as some potholes. The park has done a pretty good job of outlining some of the bigger bumps and holes to alert folks with mobility issues. The trail is passable for wheelchairs as long as someone helps to navigate the bumps. There are many recreation sites along the coast, but if you're looking for quick and easy access to the beach at a site that might not have too many visitors, I have a hunch this is a safe bet.

We laughed so much and tried so hard to escape the room. Only 32% escape the rooms, but we came SO CLOSE. The owner was great. He gave us hints on the monitor and they certainly helped us out. We travel extensively and enjoy getting him out to run…read more What the Agate Dog Park (run by the city of Newport, Oregon) has, or doesn't have: NO DOUBLE GATES (worth less "stars") A tiny hidden gate in back corner (check it!) NO WATER (people bring water) Fenced Bags provided Trash (on the outside, reachable from inside) One bench Lots of parking Bathrooms next door in park?? ...... What my thoughts are after 1.5 hrs watching who came and went. (When I left three young folks entered in the back gate w/ no dog. No biggie, but I don't want them not closing the gate, or not understanding dog park rules.) BEWARE of the main entrance gate as it's a SINGLE gate. It's less than half a block from busy Hwy 101 so an escapee could mean death. You couldn't pay me enough to go here when my dog was a puppy as he would bolt out the gate just to be a punk. Today: When I arrived on Saturday morning, mid-July at 10:30am there was a small gathering. Two dogs came over and looked happy to play. When we got closer the older, blond German Shepherd started snarling and barking (ie: "this is my back yard, I dare you to come in" teeth showing). The white 7 mo old puppy next to it was NO PROBLEM. I've learned that ANY odd feelings at a dog park should be listened to. We backed up and I popped my dog in the back of the 4Runner. One man (not shepherd owner, of course) was nice and approached to say he has never seen that dog attack. I said, "No worries I just listen to my gut, and I don't need problems traveling". I told him/them I got bit by a big dog at dog park the week before (true), and just don't need to go there. (Two people "vouched" for the dog that bit me saying he had never bit anyone either. Weird #%$& happens.) The older, disengaged lady w/ the snarling dog leashes up the German Shepherd and took him out to her minivan. I got the sense that she would only deal with her dog IF someone pushes back. She was annoyed. I have no patience for people who make others wonder like that. To make this clear: I know dogs who snarl at fences but, are fine when you come in. I also know the owners of THOSE dogs immediately go over and deal with it to make others comfortable coming in. (And guess what? The dogs STOP doing it because the handlers took the time to deal with it.). Anyone with a high profile breed such as a German Shepherd, IMO, should immediately deal with it, they should not wait for others to speak up. What else don't they handle well? I don't want to think that hard, and I want my dog and I to leave in one piece. German Shepherds are the number one breed at my home dog park. I know them as well as any breed. It's my first time here, doubt I'll be back, but here is what I think the deal is: It's a small neighborhood park with mainly regulars who gather so that the people can talk. What that means is there is not much milling around, and dogs get territorial. Dog acting up? WALK FIVE FEET. Got a lawn chair? Pick it up and move it, sit back down. It's EASY. Cake walk, people. I find there are more problems with dog behavior at parks when people sit and talk. And new blood (new dogs) at dog park always helps, IMO, but "little known dog parks" such as this one don't get much new blood. When you move 5 feet I see dogs probably thinking of saying this to another dog: "Hey, I was just about to kick your a$$, but hang on a second - my human is moving. Okay, so I'm done moving over here now. Uh.....what was I going to do?" They forget what they were doing. You don't always have to move a lot, but on those days that dogs are acting weird? Say to the person you are talking to "hey, follow me over here so we can keep talking (and I can watch my dog)". I just have a small dog who German Shepherds love to chase (been there, done that), I'm traveling and do not need my dog being injured and finding a local vet. In addition, I got bit by an Australian Shepherd last week at a Washington state dog park so my luck is maxed out. (Fireworks probably agitated that dog who snuck up behind me as I did nothing wrong.) Newport dog parks are fond of single gates. I already sent an inquiry asking for a padlock on the Wilder dog park tractor gate constantly left open. "See something, say something." I'm giving this dog park a 2 star because I think it's one of those "people sit and talk, dogs get territorial" parks, and the SINGLE GATE situation. Ugh. One guy went out and then stood there with the gate open. Must be nice to have a breed you can trust (or dig us old)....but I don't. I seek out fenced dog parks for a reason.

This course was built in like 1955, so it is tight in a number of areas. Plenty of opportunities to lose golf balls as the are streams running all around the place and the rough is, well, the rough. One of the holes you have to walk out and see the hole out about 150 yards and guesstimate where you are going as you are about 80 or so feet above the green. A fun course with no frills and plenty of nice scenery. It appears the restaurant is only open certain times of the year as it was closed when I went here. Nice pro shop with friendly help. Give this one a try, but bring plenty of extra balls!

Fun design for a fair price, just east of Newport. I was in the area and having a tough time…read morefinding a public track on the lower end of the budget. Then I found Olalla Valley. Although there are a few 9 hole courses in the area, Olalla Valley seems to have the most elevation changes. Many of the holes are unique and do not just run back and forth along one piece of land. The lack of bunkers and water hazards (other than the occasional creek crossing) make it playable for golfers of higher handicaps as well. Although it's not as GREEN as some courses, golf isn't supposed to be perfectly manicured. One improvement that could be made is to speed the greens up just a tad and I would throw in a few bunkers here and there, but now I'm just getting greedy. I will be back!

The owner is a really nice guy and takes great care of his gym There are 4 separate rooms which makes for a very spacious environment. There is a room where they do classes, a room for stretching, and 2 separate weight rooms. It's not so big that you feel like you're walking around too much though. It was fairly quiet every time I went in. There are showers to get ready in. It's a self serve style gym too. You have badge access 24 hours. Only downside is it's a black hole for cell service. I like to play music while working out and my phone got no service.
