Seven years ago a friend invited me to a yin yoga workshop. I had never taken any yoga prior to the class. At the start I felt like a fish out of water. I continued to listen to Kelly's soft calming voice of instruction. My body began to relax and my breathing became a soft rhythm that lulled me into a relaxed meditative state. I had never felt that before. After class I felt a lightness in my body as if I were ten years younger. I had relief from aches & pains and a peace inside me that lasted days after. The owner is a really nice guy and takes great care of his gym There are 4 separate rooms which makes for a very spacious environment. There is a room where they do classes, a room for stretching, and 2 separate weight rooms. It's not so big that you feel like you're walking around too much though. It was fairly quiet every time I went in. There are showers to get ready in. It's a self serve style gym too. You have badge access 24 hours. Only downside is it's a black hole for cell service. I like to play music while working out and my phone got no service.

It has everything our favorite gym had but an even better environment. The gym is busy at all hours but never so busy you feel crowded or have issues using equipment. It's always clean, nothing sits broken or unusable and when the weather permits, having the garage doors open is so nice. Ballast is by far the best gym on the coast.

There seems to be a steady group of attendees, which is always a great sign for a studio. Also, Beth is super responsive. I left a voicemail with a question and she called right back. The class swirls by in this fun wiz of pain, music and random jokes from Beth. You're hurting like hell but somehow the moves are so creative and intriguing that you don't notice the pain? My body starting shifting immediately in the first week. I'm 2 months in now and never want to stop. The hours are good, with lap swims weekdays in the morning, lunchtime and evening. It wasn't too crowded when I was there, each lane had 1-2 people in it. The water is a bit warmer than I like it, though, it doesn't even feel cool when you first get in! There's very little natural light so it's a bit depressing but the ceilings are high so the air isn't stuffy. There are plenty of aids -- flippers, kickboards, pull buoys, etc. to use and the entry side of the pool is so shallow, you can stand on your knees! The staff was friendly and helpful and the changing rooms have benches, hooks and showers. They're still working on installing lockers, you can hang your stuff on hooks by the pool. Lots of parking out front, too.

More than any other guide I've had, I appreciated her knowledge bank because she didn't just throw random factoids out at us, she wove the information together in a way that allowed us to sink into the eco-system and absorb the history, geology, and biology. We avidly enjoy nature, and were a little bit surprised that everything she told us was new! From start to finish it was a wonderful trip as we didn't have to lift a finger, and learned interesting things even on the ride there and back! LOVE that they're dog friendly! She just perched in between us on the tandem kayak and enjoyed being paddled around like Queen Sheba! Highly, Highly Recommended!
