Green and Tonic is located in a cute side street near the center of town. It's near other local businesses. There's parking in the street or there is a rear parking area. Beautiful area to take a stroll after stopping in Green and Tonic. Green and tonic had many things on the menu that were quite healthy , gluten free, plant based and vegan. There were smoothies , bowls , breakfast sandwiches to sit and enjoy and also options that were ready to Pick up and eat! Staff was very friendly and the place was just cute and bright! I actually was in town and came from an hour away so I bought a couple of snack bowls to bring home and have some cold pressed juices to try! Green and Tonic has 7 other different locations! I love the new location! It's clean and bright. The staff gives you a warm welcome the second you walk through the door. They have a ton of great and healthy options available. You can expect their juices and smoothies that they are well known for. They have recently introduced a food menu to their offerings. In the to-go fridge, you'll see salads (kale rotini salad is my fave!) and soups. They also have a good line of baked goods that are vegan/dairy free/gluten free. I came by for breakfast. Visiting from Texas so decided on a smoothie to sip and walk around with. What a cute spot and cute town. The store is a nice size and clean looking. There are some quaint seating outside the store for the matching beautiful sunny cool weather. In Texas it is already 100 Fahrenheit. The Green Guru is DELICIOUS. They allow for using your own reusable mugs, so next time I will bring it. The lady at the counter was really nice. Smiled and greeted. Smoothie came out in no time after ordering. I went in for a quick latte and a treat at 2pm on a Saturday, I only had two people ahead of me, the place was pretty empty. When it's my turn, I order my iced latte and a muffin from the case, which I promptly pay for and the employee proceeds to swiftly flip the screen around so I can leave a tip. I do and wait patiently for my order to be ready. I see plenty of smoothies being made, new customers coming in, putting their orders in and getting their food while I wait. After 14-15 minutes the guy at the register is still more worried about taking the other orders than preparing mine, so I ask him kindly if he could please work on my latte so I can be on my way and not be late to my daughter's soccer game, and he says he will make it soon. Meanwhile, the girl behind the counter is busy with more smoothies, so I assume he was the barista? Not sure. After another 5 minutes and at least 10 customers receiving their orders before mine I ask him again and he finally makes it. It took him probably a minute to make it, hands it to me but somehow he wasn't even apologetic about it. I was watching the other girl while I was waiting and she did not smile once at any customers the whole time I was there. She just seemed annoyed. I love getting my healthy fix at Green & Tonic when I'm in the area. As a plant-based eater who isn't strictly vegan or vegetarian, they are right up my alley because offer delicious options that just happen to feature lots of plants. They don't make eating vegan intimidating-they just happen to be! First, the staff- they are always friendly and really knowledgeable. I've seen them get in the weeds with orders, but they always have a smile on their face and really try to get orders out as quickly as possible. If I'm feeling undecided, I ask them what their favorite thing is and they've never led me down a bad road. I have a few favorites. First the Hot Quinoa Oatmeal. It's the best breakfast and super nutritious. I get it with walnuts, blueberries, and sometimes cacao nibs. Yummm. Second is the Kale Caesar with crispy chickpeas and avocado dressing. I crave this. Third is the Green Guru smoothie with half almond milk- a quick, delicious way to get your greens! A tie for fourth is their Power Acai Bowl with almond butter and the Zenergy Smoothie bowl with matcha and Zen Blend granola. I've got more of a savory tooth than sweet tooth, so I choose these post-workout or when I need a real dose of energy. They're always adding new seasonal items to the menu so I never get bored. I had a sudden smoothie craving and time to kill before my train, and had walked by this place several times. So I looked online at their menu, balking at the $10 price listed for a small smoothie. I thought to myself on one hand, are you kidding me, the presence of turmeric and kale don't justify that ridiculous price...but on the other hand this is New Canaan I guess. I decided a fresh-pressed healthy juice would satisfy my craving and and one with ginger peaked my interest. I walked in to the store, which was empty save for the three employees standing around talking. Not one of them acknowledged my presence....seriously? I literally wondered if I was in another country-- I've only witnessed that level of disinterest from waiters in France. Even eye contact with a smile would have been something but there was just no acknowledgement.. pretty awkward in such a tiny shop. Come to find out the juices are not freshly made in-house, but rather are pre-bottled. If I don't see my drink being made, for all I know it came from the Coca Cola plant. I would have asked where (if it was somewhere local and made this morning, I'd still have considered buying) but I decided not to interrupt the staff convo. I ultimately decided to go with the Hibiscus Ginger Kombucha instead of juice. The kid at the register scanned the item and looked at me expectantly. I blinked at him- "uhhh how much do I owe you?" To which he looked surprised to be asked such a question. The whole thing was honestly just bizarre. Here's an idea, Green & Tonic, maybe staff one less person so you can lower your prices and exist as a mini health food store and not have to "deal" with customers. They're pre packaged food has given me food poisoning twice and don't even think about getting their baked goods because their blueberry muffin was hard as a rock. Took some relatives from VT to this location over Labor Day weekend for lunch and we all enjoyed something different while eating at that unusual table in the cafe. Ok I do not usually use yelp but I saw that a few bozos gave this place 1 star--seriously? I am not a regular but I stop by twice a month or so for a smoothie and have never had a bad experience. The staff is always friendly and is super knowledgeable about the foods they serve.. some people have complained about the staff below but honestly the staff is one of the reasons I enjoy coming here and don't mind paying $11 for a smoothie. I was in there a couple weeks ago and the boy and girl behind the counter were adorable and friendly!! Never in a bad mood despite the early hour--for someone who grabs breakfast early in the am before work I can't stress enough how nice it is to be greeted with a smile, not like the new Canaan D and D or starbucks staff who act like zombies. Also for those people who think this place is overpriced you have to remember that they are one of the few restaurants I have been to that is completely committed to raw & unprocessed. Bc of that there is going to be more waste and therefore the prices are going to be a little bit more than that McDonald's meal which you paid $2 for bc it was made 2 months ago in Ohio. This place needs to step up their game. -They changed their packaging. -They should put the expiration dates on the side or top. -Sometimes they keep these foods on the shelf until the last day of their exp date which tells me their not selling well. If something's not selling, toss the recipe idea and get a new product that people buy. -When I went one morning at 9am there was a man with boxes stocking the shelves, this should be done BEFORE customer rush hour -WHY IN THE WORLD DO YOU SELL PUDDING AND MOUSSES THAT ARENT ALL THE WAY FULL? What a rip off! Buy a smaller cup then to sell the ounces that you want, not filling up the cups 3/4 of the way. -The center counter in the middle of the store is confusing and seems lost. It's filled with small amounts of snacks and bars but it's marketed strangely -I got an acai bowl which didnt qualify for a smoothie punch on my card which seems quite cheap of you guys not to accept.
