They have a helpful staff. A good selection of bikes for all ages. I recommend them and will continue to patronize them.

After significant research into an issue I was having with my saddle, I went into Velosmith because according to the Selle Italia website they are a dealer participating in the idmatch (a "30 second" fitting procedure) and saddle test experience. The person I spoke with at the shop was friendly and helpful (although he was very quick to mention the $325 fitting that was a very important part of figuring out any type of saddle issue), but suggested that I contact their fitting expert to learn more about the demo program (same thing as the saddle test), so I left and contacted her by email. In that exchange the fitter was very nice, but pointed out immediately that the demo program is only for those who have gone through the $325 fitting experience. While I do believe there can be significant value in having a professional fitting. I just don't think I need one in this scenario because I've already run through most of the troubleshooting steps on my own to narrow down the potential causes (the Internet is a fabulous thing). I had really hoped that Velosmith would be that perfect boutique bike shop in a convenient location, and I would have been happy to pay more for that personalized expertise. But that wasn't the case. Instead of a premium experience, I was treated to a hard "mandatory" up sell (albeit in very friendly terms) for something I didn't want, or need.

The delivery process was two-steps, and the time to delivery was several weeks, likely due to the time required to refurbish a unit. My elliptical was very carefully packed and first delivered to my garage on a pallet. A couple days later, technicians came and set the unit up in the room I use as a gym. The unit is in great shape and works perfectly. I am delighted. From beginning to end, my elliptial purchase was handled professionally and attentively. Thank you Boris and Fitness Warehouse!

I've found it impossible to find dumbbells anywhere and finally found what I needed online, but that was weeks ago and they still aren't here. After trying to make do with my wimpy weights for a peloton bootcamp class I called Fitness Warehouse to see what they had in stock. I was delighted to hear they had weights of every size. I asked them how to purchase (I've basically forgotten how to shop during these times) and they told me to come on by. I put on my mask and gloves and made my way to Fitness Warehouse, which is open til 6pm during the week. I was greeted a few friendly men who showed me a few different options. I was thrilled they had had exactly what I needed and weren't price gouging the weights like the rest of the industry. They were also nice enough to throw them in my trunk for me. I stopped at weights, but they had tons of cardio equipment, balls, kettleballs, bands and everything else one needs for an in home workout. They weren't wearing masks themselves today so I was glad I had mine on, but kept a good distance and I felt safe shopping there.

But that would've likely stopped the upselling I started to see. So I turned me and my bike around and left. It's hard for me to be on my feet that long. That's why I bike. Dood has a right to be into his subject matter. Usually shops want you to feel comfortable and respected as somewhat of a priority, even if you aren't being directly pitched at the moment... it just was not a good vibe. All doods working there when I was in. Way heavy on the dood vibe. Captive audience syndrome. Sigh. Dood has to do what a dood does. I avoid places like this. Going to the bike collective in Rogers Park instead next time.
