I flew out to Winnipeg on Canada Day. Again. Like Groundhog Day…read more I had taken the same flight the previous day. Due to the WestJet pilot-engineer strike, many flights were cancelled and Air Canada felt it. I felt it as an Air Canada customer. It was the perfect storm. It took me over one hour to drop my luggage on a baggage carousel that was functional half of the time. I missed my flight thanks to this issue and checking in at a kiosk. Things happen. My flight on Canada Day was great. My luggage had already been checked through the day before. I didn't need to deal with carousel issues. I basically hopped on my flight with my backpack and all was great. I got to Winnipeg just before 10 am. The thought was to go to Jollibee for breakfast. I got my rental vehicle and drove out in the rain. I parked between the Jollibee, and this Ben & Florentine. I knew that the latter was a breakfast chain. I decided to go for it and dashed in without an umbrella. It gives you a feel of hitting a more modern Smitty's or Denny's. I waited for someone to seat me for maybe five minutes. The occasional staffer looked at me and then disappeared to fetch meals in the kitchen. It allowed me to take photos. Finally, a woman came over. I got seated at a two-person table, next to the kitchen. It just meant that I'd get my food faster when it was ready. I got Brad as my server. He was polite, competent, and a delight. I started off with a Diet Pepsi and a glass of water. I got a glass with ice, which made downing my pop refreshing. The glass of water was great, too. With the weird start that I had with travel, I deserved a mimosa. I went ahead and ordered it. I also got the bacon and caramelized apple benedict on an English muffin, with home fries and fruit. I got my mimosa first. It was in a fluted glass. I got the original, which had orange juice and prosecco. It was refreshing and fizzy. It was a nice start to my breakfast. The eatery was almost at full capacity. My food didn't take as long as I had anticipated. I loved my bacon and caramelized apple benedict on an English muffin. The only downside was that my eggs were overdone. If you are looking for an oozy egg, you got a dry run cutting through each egg. I sometimes feel like an overhard egg. Other times, I want to cut through the egg and have it run. Although it was the latter, I was still happy with it. The hollandaise sauce was yummy on top of it. The bacon and caramelized apple worked so well together. I got crispy salt from the bacon with the sweetness of the diced apple. The English muffin was perfect. It was effortless cutting through it. My benedict had a mix of monterey jack and cheddar cheeses. Frankly, it didn't need them. Luckily, I didn't get a whole lot of them in my meal. I enjoyed the home fries. I typically get bored of them. These ones were crunchy on the outside and seasoned nicely. I dipped each one in ketchup. I was happy. I am still on a fruit kick. I got a nice medley of fruit. Grapes. Watermelon and honeydew melon chunks. Strawberry and banana slices. Yummy and perfect! Brad asked how my meal was halfway through my stay. He was a professional. He was great. I got my bill promptly. He fetched the payment machine. I paid with a credit card and tipped. He thanked me for dropping by. I wished him a great day. He reciprocated. I used the washroom before I left. It's in the right corner when you walk into the eatery. It was clean and spacious. I had a decent time having breakfast here. I'm glad that I stopped by. I'd return to try more items on the menu. I waited over 30 minutes for my Healthy Breakfast wrap with Avocados. It was pretty yummy. This place is packed full of people in the afternoon, they are very popular. My cranberry juice was yummy. The "Fraisinette" smoothie seemed a bit small but it was delicious and healthy. Very mangoe strawberry strong.

We stopped by here on our way through Winnipeg and it was delicious. There was a wide variety of…read morefoods, often with all the ingredients listed, which made things much easier for me as a picky eater. We had the tofu and seaweed soup, which was wonderfully comforting and clean-tasting, the satay eggplant, which even my omnivorous mother thought was delicious, and the "vegan" fish with lemon, which was perfectly crisp on the outside and tender on the inside. (My mother and I agreed that it tasted like fancy fish sticks, and if that sounds like faint praise, remember that there was no fish in it whatsoever, so it was convincing!) The service was great. Our server, who I think was also the chef, brought a small extra bowl for the soup without us asking because she'd overheard us saying it might be nice to share, and they were some lovely small touches like the water having a touch of lemon in it and the green tea we ordered, which was solidly decent, coming pre-steeped with no teabag so it didn't get sharp over the course of the meal. This would be a great restaurant for families or friend groups with a mix of vegans and non-vegans, who don't want to limit the vegan members in their options but still want crowd-pleasing and affordable food. The "fish" we had would also be a sure hit with picky kids on those occasions as well, as I suspect much of the menu would be. I wish I could teleport the whole restaurant to my hometown!

Whether you're a vegetation or not, this is hands down the best place to eat In Downtown Winnipeg…read more The food is so fresh and clean here and the options are plentiful. There is a lot of seating for groups but you can also take out. The best part of this place is their lunch buffet. You can eat in or take it to go. Not many places offer a buffet-style lunch to go! The lunch buffet is pay by weight. A full plate will run you under $12 which is well worth the quality of the food. The options for lunch change daily so come often! This restaurant has been in many local newspapers and featured in various blogs. If you're looking for good and REAL food, this is it. For those who are slaves to vehicles, there's no need to worry about parking. Lots of street parking. Free after 530 pm during the week so no need to be petty and say it's hard to park.
