I have no idea what anybody sees in this place. I was excited to try it after reading a the reviews but was sadly disappointed beyond belief. I took the reviewers advice & gave it some time before I showed up to pick up my chicken hummus (the lady who answered actually didn't even give me a time frame before she abruptly hung up). Of course the food was cold when I got home so don't always assume they're busy. They were dead when I showed up at lunch time, no one waiting and only one other carry out order waiting to be picked up. I asked if the garlic sauce comes included and instead of answering me she asked how many and I said one please and then I watched her charge me $0.50 for the smallest ramekin of garlic sauce. For the actual hummus itself it's odd to say the least. It's not gritty like store bought kind but it was so think it literally held its shape as I scooped a little on a slice of pita. It just wasn't right. There wasn't an ounce of olive oil on the chicken or the hummus making the entire meal just very dry. I was impressed at all. On one positive they gave me three slices of pita (the big kind) without having to ask. Although that much is hardly needed I wish I would have just been given a complimentary garlic sauce like every other place instead of wasting the pita. I won't be back. read more

I have had Green Cedar numerous times and always thought it was great food. This review speaks to their customer service. As I traveled in from Chicago this weekend, I was cutting it close to arrive in town before they closed. I called them when Waze said I was about 40 mins out and I would arrive right at 9pm when they closed. I explained the situation and the owner was happy to take the order. Most places don't like rolling the dice on orders that close to closing. The group at GC was happy to take the order and wait until I arrived to close up shop. Stopped here for dinner before a movie at the Phoenix. This is a primarily carry-out place, but when we took one of the few tables, and opened our Styro take-out containers, we enjoyed some very good Middle Eastern food. Quantities are more than enough for now and later. The lamb shawarma was very flavorful - meat cooked just right, set off nicely with rice with slivered almonds. Co-diner got chicken kabob, which was moist and well seasoned. One small quibble: I asked for water, and all they had was bottled water - no tap water. So, we took a bottle, planning to share, and were told they had no cups. They gave us 2 Styro soup bowls , and we made do. Guys, order a sleeve of Dixie cups - they 're not that expensive. Consistent, fast & decent. I've been visiting this location frequently since they opened. Their prices are fair, and the food is good (however the garlic sauce is more of a lemon sauce than garlic base - and the lentil soup is very lemony as well) The staff are always pleasant and the atmosphere is open and clean. Dishes are more Americanized than traditional, and portions are on the small side. But it's not bad... Just doesn't wow me much anymore. It's easy to find. Let's get down to it. The food was good, not fantastic, but good. Some of the better cooking I've tasted outside of Dearborn. My only complaints are that it was a little more expensive than Google initially led me to believe (seriously, it's not like the ingredients are especially expensive), and half the staff was not wearing masks. In fact, others were coming in to the store without wearing masks. Not a good sign during a pandemic. For this reason, I won't come back until this mess is over. This place used to be my go-to lunch spot; no more! Last 4 times I've been here were a disappointment. During lunch they quote 25 mins for call ahead orders, I've waited 45 minutes several times. I order kabob sandwich and gotten RAW beef. Disclaimer: I was a line cook for 9 years and eat medium beef - this beef was raw. I took a couple bites before taking notice something was wrong and ended up sick for the rest of the day. Today was the last straw. I ordered falafel plate to avoid risking food poisoning only to watch the cook scrolling on his phone, look up at me, slip his phone in his pocket, grab a carry out box, and start grabbing veggies with his ungloved, uncleaned hands, shoveling it into the box. I am absolutely disgusted, terrible customer service, will not be doing business with them ever again. Green Cedar has been my local go-to restaurant for Shawarma. Their Chicken Shawarma is consistently good. The garlic sauce is a great accompaniment to the chicken. The Baba Ghanoush is excellent, although they don't always have it. I call ahead to check and if they have it I drive to Green Cedar to eat. They have some seating there, but be warned that on a hot Summer day it gets a bit too hot to sit there and eat your meal. As you can see by checking the menu above, their prices are quite reasonable. If you find yourself near Laurel Park Mall you're just a mile away from Green Cedar. Give it a try. read more

Thank goodness I have finally graduated school so that I can FINALLY live near Green Cedar. My husband and I have been going here for two years now, and I can honestly say that it is our favorite food in the area. The hummus is the best we've had, and I really enjoy the lentil soup. The chicken is always cooked perfectly and my fairly picky-eater husband regularly stuffs himself with the Tawook dinner and Tawook sandwich (minus any vegetables, pickles or turnips, of course, haha). Make sure you get their garlic sauce if you like garlic sauce, but know that you will still be breathing garlic a day later no matter how many times you brush your teeth. Really, this place has so many good things going for it. Not only is it AWESOME middle eastern food, they also have a very friendly staff. The owner, Wally, knows both Scott's and my names and shakes our hands everytime we come in and asks how the other is doing if we come in alone. The girl that used to answer the phone would always say... "Is this Lucy?" after I would order a Tawook dinner with absolutely no vegetables for Scott over the phone. Wally always sticks an extra container of pickles and turnips in our bag for me. They know where I was going to school, when our wedding was and a variety of other small things about us. One day I walked in and complimented a little painting they had propped against the wall and Wally took it off the wall and GAVE it to me! Haha, that really surprised us, but it's just one of the small things that they have done to make us feel like we're part of a very lucky community that knows about Green Cedar and goes there regularly. The prices are good - the dinners run from $12-18, but honestly they give you enough to feed you for multiple meals (or me, at least). I tend to either get meat grape leaves or a meat grape leaf sandwich along with lentil soup or fattoush salad and definitely hummus. The tabbouli is also excellent, and the meat schawarma sandwich is delicious. Honestly, I haven't found anything on the menu I didn't like at this point. I guess I better just keep going back and trying! This place is pretty much strictly take-out, so order at least 20 minutes ahead of when you want it (30 is safer). There are two small tables there that are often occupied. The only drink option is cans of soda or bottles of water, however, there's a liquor store next door that often provides anything else that we want with the dinner. read more

I've been getting carry out since this place opened. It's always been great. We usually get the Green Cedar platter which gives a good variety of their offerings. Depending upon the cook, the quantity can differ but it is always good. The humus is one of the best around, and I've tried a lot, having lived in Dearborn for awhile. I would have given 5 stars but about a year ago they raised their prices about 30-40%. I think the price hike was to pay for the re-model. I used to view this place as a great value prior to the price hike, now it's just about average price . The increase didn't stop me from going there, I still regularly enjoy it. read more

Now THIS is the kind of food I'm talking about. Arabic food is not easy to come by where I live in Central NC, and what we do have doesn't come close to even the average quality stuff in Michigan. My brother took me here for lunch on my first day in town and the rest of the trip was a culinary disappointment in comparison. Prices? Reasonable as I recall from when I ordered, but my brother actually picked up the tab for the meal, so I can't say for certain, as I didn't see the check. We had chicken shawarma, hummus, and fattoush with feta. ALL of it was incredible. The garlic paste was the best I've ever had. The hummus was so light, smooth and creamy, it was like whipped cream. The chicken shawarma was moist and flavorful and incredible delicious. The only negative I can think of is that they didn't have fresh warm pita bread, but I can overlook that because the actual food was so delicious. It's made to order, so we waited about 20 minutes for our meal, but they did have people coming in to pick up call ahead orders for carry out, so that is an option for you if you're pressed for time. There are only a few tables for dine in, and the whole place is very small, so it wouldn't be ideal for large groups. The parking lot is small, but the plaza that this place is located in is very small also, so it shouldn't be hard to find a spot. If you are in the 7 mile and Newburgh area, EAT HERE. It's on the Northwest corner of the intersection. You'll have an amazing meal. And I'll be jealous because I only got to enjoy it one time, and I'll be thinking about that meal until my next visit in the summer. It's going to be a long few months of waiting! read more

The vast majority of people have lowered their standards for food lately. I'm not writing this review for my own personal gain, however, I don't find Green Cedar to be of the finer places to eat. It's very difficult to find a 5 star restaurant in these areas, yet its equally as hard to find a 1 or 2 star restaurant. I've found one of the 1-2 star restaurants. Green Cedar may be able to preach how fresh and exquisite the salads are, but they don't practice what they preach. While eating my fattoush salad i felt like i couldn't taste the natural ingredients. My salad was drowning in dressing. Being middle-eastern i have standards when i try and help local business out. Now to the sandwich. When i order a chicken shawarma, i expect to bite into a juicy and tender sandwich, not one in which i must chew until my jaw is aching. The chicken seems as if it were prepared in advance and reheated to improve the time in which the sandwich is prepared. Also, when i ask for no garlic i expect there to be no garlic in my sandwich. If i were in the mood for fast food i would have gone to the neighboring McDonald's. Overall i wasn't really satisfied with the food. The service was fine. Practice what you preach. Try krogers already prepared fattoush. Thumbs down. read more

Excellent portions on the hummus and eggplant dip. Also, enjoyed how light and thin the pita was...however...it was a tad chewy. They give you a ton to go with it, but, if not fresh...what's the point? Fattoush salad was nice and the dressing not overpowering. Kabobs seasoning was ok and a tad tough. When I first moved in the area and saw this place I thought, "Sweet!, now I don't have to drive all the way to Dearborn for a decent Shawarma......boy was I wrong. I will gladly take my happy ass to Dearborn for a Shawarma instead of going to this place again. I've tried on numerous occasions to get a decent chicken shawarma from this place, and ever single time I get a sandwich that can easily give someone a stroke or a heart attack from all the salt that they put in it. If you're looking for FRESH middle-eastern salads and sandwiches, this is the place to go. I've always been disappointed with the freshness of the salads at the more popular middle-eastern places that make their salads in advance. Here, they put your salad together as you stand there and watch. The fattoush has plenty of zing with the lemony dressing and sumac. It's not a place for a relaxing dine-in experience because it's small and gets a lot of foot traffic, but for a great salad or quick sandwich, you've gotta give this place a try. read more
