    Beet salad!
    Rebecca A.

I am in love with La Fresh. We recently moved to Northville, and I am so grateful to have found this nearby Mediterranean gem. They have the best hummus and hot bread that I have ever had. Please do not take that lightly - I am well versed in hummus and bread. Whenever we have company, we treat our guests to this. My other absolute favorite things is their fattoush salad and dressing. It is particularly fresh - it stays fresh for leftover lunches for days! That really says something! We typically get their lamb shawarma and chicken shawarma sandwiches. They are huge. Another thing I will mention is their lunch specials (served all day). They are a neatly packaged offering where you pick your sides. It is pretty close to perfect. It is also enough for two. You can tell the food is high quality and it is packaged with care. It is a little pricey in comparison to other restaurants with similar cuisine, but it is worth every penny. One last thing... I recently had their cheese pizza (baked in their wood bread oven) and it was remarkably tasty. I actually piled fattoush salad on it and used it as a vessel to get it into my mouth. De-lish. Tip - order extra bread, don't think twice about it, and save any extra in the paper bag, in a ziplock bag, and hide it from your family. You're welcome.

Delicious, medium-rare, tender shish kebab with grilled veggies.

In addition to being able to work from home in sweatpants during the pandemic, another benefit of WFH is that we are also able to indulge in garlic sauce any/every day of the week. So I was eager to try out La Fresh, discovered recently on Yelp. Living in Michigan, and specifically working in Dearborn, I am exposed to high-quality recipes and preparations from local restaurants. I do have my favorites, as attested in reviews and photos, and didn't know how La Fresh would compare. After I placed my order online, I arrived in time to pick up my order. Unfortunately, on a Saturday evening, the restaurant was slammed with orders, based on the number of tickets lined up. The staff would call out the orders of those waiting, hopefully to speed up the process. Cautious, I waited outside while my meal was being prepared and packaged up - heads up, please bring your patience on these evenings. I ordered the beef shish kebab with grilled vegetables. The beef was nicely marbled and at the requested rare temperature, it was incredibly tender and nicely seasoned. The accompanying fattoush salad was huge and fresh. I saved the majority for a future lunch since there was already so much food. In addition, I ordered a side of baba ghanoush, my preferred spread, which was creamy, smooth, with a slight bitter edge, and a biting, fiery garlic sauce. The latter was yum yum yum. All of this came with a bag of still hot and pillowy pita bread. The puffed bread was the perfect delivery mechanism for the baba ghanoush and the garlic sauce. So good, it is no wonder that so many pita breads were being churned out at the restaurant. Service was fine. The team at the restaurant was definitely working hard to accommodate the line up of customers.

Order at the counter and pay and sit down. They will bring the food to your table. All used and dirty pens left to sign for the receipt. We ordered spicy hummus, a Chicken shawarma plate, double lentil soup, small tabouli, large fattoush salad with grilled chicken breasts, no pita. I thought I heard there was a half hour wait for orders, hoping it will be less for us dining-in. We are starving. It's 77 outside but I am cold and freezing inside here. Good thing I wore a jacket. The chicken shawarma plate dinner seems pricey at $16.49 for just shaved shawarma meat. They gave me a lot of meat on my Fattoush, the shawarma meat plate and on the salad is quite dry, very dry. Decent flavor, just bone dry is all. The dressing is good. Still had a piece of crispy pita in my salad. An escapee. The tabouli is good, solid small salad is quite big. The lentil soup is okay, super thick, tastes decent. The spicy hummus isn't bad. The pita pockets are good as always. The chicken shawarma plate was about a 2 for us. The fattoush salad alone was a 3, the shawarma meat was a 3. Service wasn't bad.

Ordered the Chicken Shuwarma. Came with salad and hummus. The salad and hummus were ok, but the shawarma was not really a shawarma. It was just a grilled chicken breast (I am not even sure it is chicken, it felt like it is Turkey), cut to small pieces. I could not even notice any trace of Cumin which is a necessity for a good shuwarma. I also had the chicken soup that was alright. I gave it 3 starts because I came for the shuwarma and it was well below expectations.

We stopped by here after Sunday service in the area. It was busy Sunday so our food took about 25 mins. Their lunch deal is a-bit expensive but you got what you paid for. My fave was fattoush salad which wasn't pre mixed like any other places we've had before. We ate our lunch and had some leftovers for the next meal so I'd say, the portion was pretty good. When we are in the area, we'll definitely return for sure. Also, everything was in to go containers.

    The pita is amazing

Excellent home made middle eastern food. The pita bread is baked in house and is impossible to not get addicted to. The staff is very friendly and efficient. The place is always busy with take out, but you can sit in as well.

However the other chicken dishes were dry - chicken sajji was hard to cut and so so dry even with all the sauce on it. And the chicken shish tawook was hard and dry. It was our first time and I wish our waitress had given us a little more help in what was a popular pick, she just kept saying everything tastes good. Which is fine but if we're genuinely asking, it's because we are actually looking for recommendations! Overall it was good but definitely not getting any grilled chicken because this experience was not great with it.

Al Tayeb gives you a great taste of Lebanese food and flavors right in your backyard. I will come here again and bring friends.

The food is even better than its predecessor in the same location. In my opinion, it has the best fahsah (even better than another Canton location or their Dearborn twin restaurant). More flavor, more meat, and a tastier crunchier bread to go with it. The other options have more variety than many other places. I like the broiled chicken, the chicken shawarma, shawarma combo... tons of delicious options. I can't stop thinking about the fahsah, though. It's a "stick in your mind forever" kind of dish, especially the way they prepare it here. The appetizers (Kibbee, Ghanouj, Hummus, Spicy Potatoes) were all fantastic. Careful with the veggie grape leaves, though! They tasted like a pile of bitter lemon and were a bit tough to eat - only bad thing I've ever had here. One of the biggest improvements over the restaurant that was here before is the service. Previously, we went and felt ignored as the servers left water cups empty and didn't bring parts of our meal and chatted with their friends - the service was terrible. This new restaurant, with a different menu but with some familiar items, doesn't share the same fate - the team members here are attentive, and friendly, and the place feels cleaner and more well-kept. Parking spaces were ample as the neighboring businesses weren't busy at all during this holiday week. The inside was not ornately decorated as some of the fancier places in the area that serve this type of cuisine. Between the booths and tables, my estimate was that the seating capacity was around 50 customers. The menu booklet contained several pages of offerings across the categories of appetizers, soups, salads, sides, wraps/subs, traditional dishes, and seafood/chops. For beverages, there were juices, smoothies, coffee, tea, and soft drinks. My friends each chose a different type of wrap for their meal. I picked one of the entrees from the traditional dishes which was the Gallaba over Hummus. In my hometown, I don't see gallaba as often as items like shish kabobs and shawarma. My order consisted of a choice of meat (lamb was my pick) sauteed with green peppers, onions, tomatoes, mushrooms, and carrots with special spices added. The mixture was served on a bed of hummus with my choice of rice on the side. A cup of chicken rice soup (instead of lentil) also came with this traditional dish. While we were waiting for our food, a basket of warm pita bread and a cup of garlic spread were provided. The spread was very pungent so I used it sparingly. An extra dinner salad was mistakenly added which I saved for leftovers. The gallaba was essentially a Middle Eastern version of a meat stir fry. The pieces of lamb were tender and not gamey. The spices added flavor but not saltiness. Between the bread, soup, rice, and gallaba, it was a generous portion size that also became leftovers for later. For the quality and price of my meal, I gave a four star rating for our visit to The Sheikh Restaurant.

Parking is tricky in this area of downtown so I parked further away and walked. The exterior of the restaurant is what draws your eye first - it's very welcoming. We were seated at a table next to the open wall-window so it felt like outside (they do have outside seating as well). Our server was highly knowledgeable about both the drink and food offerings. She made lots of suggestions and helped us to make our choices. For a drink, they made me a Mule - it didn't have as much ginger beer as a typical Mule but that was okay - it was very refreshing. We started with hummus as an appetizer for the table. They offer different toppings with it but we went with the basic that came with pita and a small side of tuom. They make fresh pita all night long so it was hot when it arrived. Their hummus is the most fluffy and creamy I've ever had. It was a taste delight! I chose the Shish Tawook for my entree. It just felt odd that at a high end restaurant they didn't double check. I would rather box up my own food than have you waste the food I was eating.
