This shop is pretty awesome and the owner is very knowledgeable. I have bought a plant, a planter, and a few different bouquets for mothers day. To the previous customer who complained about price, I think thats somewhat true. However, on several occasions I've gone in I was upfront about price and they were flexible and accommodating. This is just a wonderful flower shop. Expensive? Yes. But the quality of the plants is without question. The owner spent a good 30 mins with us going through what might be the best option or our apartment based on things we never even thought of. 4 weeks later the plant looks as healthy as the day we bought it and I'm sure it will provide joy for years to come. What a great find. Called late on a Sunday to pick up some flowers. They answered the phone and indicated they were already closed, but then asked what I needed. I LOVE YOU GREEN!!!! Your store is gorgeous, your plants are gorgeous, your staff is amazing, etc etc etc. I'm soooooo happy to see so many amazing reviews of GREEN on here! I've recommended this place I-don't-know-how-many times to friends over the past 5 or 6 years, whether they're in need of plants and flowers or just solid plant knowledge. I make special trips there in the summertime when they have racks of plants and flowers outside, even though it's miles from where I live (it's right in Old Town near some great restaurants too). The deal on this place is this: the selection is broad for the store's square-footage, the quality of the plants is amazing because everything is super well-cared-for (the staff is a mother/son team for whom plants are a passion), and even though the store has had other customers in it every single time I've been, I've always left feeling like I got special treatment. The son (Luke) seems to be there perpetually, always working (moving plants, watering plants, working the register, helping people)... and yet always has time to answer questions- he once helped me nurse a dying orchid (which I did not purchase there - got it before I knew about the place) back to life from a state of almost-completely-perished, and even took a minute to shoot the breeze with me about organic food. :) So: you can go to a big box or even other storefront store, but this is the only place where I can pretty much guarantee that you'll 1) get a plant that's actually living (and not fed steroids just to make it look healthy) 2) deal with a person who is actually living (and not fed mcdonalds in a dimly lit break room in the back somewhere) who is interested in your questions, knowledgeable about the answers, creative enough to create a beautiful environment to shop in, and helpful enough to effectively assist you with trouble-shooting any problems you're having keeping your own plants... green. read more

Beautiful roses - the biggest and most colorful anywhere!

A great florist and such nice people! The owner was so nice and helpful, I plan on ordering from him for all my chicago friends! Why I really like this place is because today I ordered some flowers for my friend's birthday. She told me she never received the flowers and I was really bummed. When I called Green they were so friendly and really wanted to help me figure out what happened. I felt so bad because the flowers were in the storage room of the building and Green did their part. REGARDLESS the owner personally made another arrangement and delivered it after hours. I was truly amazed. That is what we call excellent customer service. I am so happy I decided to chose this florist and now will continue to use them! Best florist in Chicago. Walking in the shop is sensory overload. Floor to ceiling packed with flowers, flowering plants, one-of-a-kind vases and containers and stools and props and over flowing working tables...you would not be surprised to see an exotic animal walk out of the jungle-like back room. Another five-star review for Green from me as well... it's true that their selection is unbelievably beautiful (I went in the midst of January and was amazed at the quality of the flowers. Just stunning.) And customer service was great, but I actually most appreciated that I was largely left to my devices... I spent about thirty minutes hand-building a bouquet, and while the staff was readily available for a few questions, I never felt interrupted or rushed, which proves that part of the joy of flowers is the almost-therapeutic process of pulling each one, stem by stem, dripping from buckets. Wow! What an awesome florist. Luke was very helpful and courteous. He educated me on what would work best in my home given my level of sunlight. He didn't attempt to oversell me; I came in wanting to purchase a large orchid but Luke suggested otherwise. Furthermore, he treated me as though I was spending a million bucks, giving me his undivided attention, even though others were in the store and it was getting crowded. Very rare to find this level of customer service these days. Definitely pop in and enjoy the flowers and service. read more

This is such an odd place. The flowers and plants seem to be high quality, but the shop itself is a claustrophobe's nightmare, so cluttered with looming floor plants and buckets of flowers that only a narrow aisle is left in which to conduct business. None of the plants or buckets are price labeled, which gives the impression they may be subject to change, depending on the customer or the whim of the proprietor. That said, the flowers I bought were beautiful and the staff who waited on me seemed to be knowledgeable about flower care. I just think they need to do some deep cleaning. read more

I went into Green for the first time tonight. I always passed by and I thought this wintery night was a good one to explore it. I was amazing at how many plants are in there, it is overwhelming and wonderful. There are random African artifacts everywhere behind shelves, with the freshest flowers I have seen anywhere in Chicago. I ended up buying a fern, and must say it is one of the healthiest plants I have bought. I am so thrilled to have found GREEN! read more

This place is part jungle, part antique store, part florist. The interior is filled with plants - everywhere - and its awesome. There are tons of unique pots/planters if you are looking for something unique. The staff are super helpful and knowledgeable. They are also very accommodating if you need to stay within a specific budget, but still do a kickass job. They have a decent succulent selection as well. I would recommend not ordering last minute, especially around busy times of the year (Valentine's, Easter, Mother's Day, etc) sometimes they are just unable to fill last minute orders. Green on Wells St. Is the go to florist .Luke and his mother are the most accommodating merchants who never disappoint but a recent delivery to a curator of a privately funded library sent ahead insured my warm welcome when my wife and I entered their party to accolades for a centerpiece of lush ,orchids and hydrangeas pouring elegantly over their lovely container. I can't say enough good things about Green! Some of the biggest, healthiest blooms I have ever encountered along with some of the best customer service around. Luke not only knows his flowers, he cares about his customers. When I called earlier to day from Michigan to have a bouquet sent to my daughter, he made sure the flowers would be delivered as close to the time she returned from work as as possible- and I didn't even ask. I saw the previous yelp reviews and went in to get an orchid and ended up leaving with cut flowers too because I liked the place so much. The owner is super nice, knowledgeable, and spent a long time with me finding pots in the color scheme I liked and discussing how I can keep my plant happy and reflowering. It seems like they get in flowers from all over the world and they all looked fresh! He also helped me put together a small bouquet as well of peonies and roses and offered color and symmetry tips. When I was ready to go he packed up my orchid safely and helped me carry it out to the car. Awesome service and cool shop. I'll be back next week for another fresh bouquet for my nightstand! read more

I was definitely impressed with the cut flower selection but I went looking for plants. The plant room is stuffy and cramped and I felt bad having to move through there touching plants on both sides to get to see everything. I understand the set up, but it's not what I expected and it made me uncomfortable. I was also uncomfortable when another patron asked about pricing, twice, and an employee blankly stared at her and kept repeating that she just ask. It was quite obvious that made the patron uncomfortable, which made me uncomfortable. Just a strange interaction for someone in customer service. I did buy a plant, which I feel was overpriced for what it was and the size, but I suppose for a small town, boutiquey type shop what I am paying for is know how. That being said, I did check the place down the street. They definitely win on space utilization and weird, hipstery stuff, but extra pricey and after walking around for 25 minutes, accidentally letting myself into not one but two private/employee spaces, and picking up or looking at just about everything there, not a single one of the 7 employees I counted (including the one who was going out the door at the same time as me) acknowledged me or spoke to me, so this place gets a second chance from me! read more

I will never use this florist again. The flowers they delivered were fine, but I ordered them in April, they were delivered in April and then, I was billed without warning or notification, in July. It is not my job to monitor if my card has been charged and chase people down to convince them to charge me. If, however, you fail to charge your customers, the last thing you should do is bill their card without warning three months later. It was an expensive order and, thankfully, it didn't create the banking fiasco that it could have. Extremely poor service and I do not recommend them. read more

This guy sold us a plant infested with spider mites. He told us that the white spots on the leaves were from a pesticide that the greenhouse in Florida sprayed. In actuality the spots were the spider mite eggs and the tree died. Do not trust these people. read more

they do such a beautiful job on arrangements but their lack of customer service and inability to keep track of orders will now make me a non-customer .. I placed an order for a Thanksgiving centerpiece a week ago (knowing how busy they would be) and after waiting 30" they couldn't find my order . .just not worth it anymore. read more
