It's.a lovely moderately sized store tucked into one of the strip mall buildings, near the State Store and the Indoor Pool school. Yes, there's an indoor pool in one of the stores. It's a swim school or something. But I digress... Everything was laid out very nicely, they have many things to buy, but not so much that you're overwhelmed. We learned that there are two kinds of stock: CONSIGNMENT items have a larger yellow tag. DONATED items have a small bright orange/red tag. They tend to keep the consigned items more towards the front of the store, also. So if you see an item and you think, wow, that's kinda high...check the tag. Chances are it's a consigned item. We browsed about and found some lovely things - FDC bought a gorgeous Italian Pottery vase and I got some very cool drinking glasses that just happen to match some shot glasses that I gave Lion a couple years ago. Score! On subsequent trips I have found an awesome set of mid-century bamboo plates for picnics (LOVE THESE!) and other fun stuff too. The staff are completely lovely people, the store is clean, well lit and well organized. Proceeds benefit survivors of domestic violence - they have a shelter for victims and also fund programs. Parking is super easy (pro tip - avoid the crowds, small parking lot behind the Barnes & Noble easy in/easy out!). Heck, yeah, I'll be back. It's a great little store supporting a very needed service in our area.

I stopped by a few days ago to check out their new store. It's significantly bigger than Nana's Attic, which means it feels far less cramped. Yay! Still very good prices, the "yellow tag" items are consignment and generally higher priced than the store's donated stock. It about killed my soul to see an awesome vintage salt & pepper mixed in with newer dishes in a consignment lot. Aaah! Staff are great, the store is clean and bright. I'll definitely be back. Note: angled parking in front of the building is NOT free, Pontiac is a public street, and those are pay at kiosk metered spots.

"No," he responded. "I don't want to get wet." Over the years we've donated a bunch of stuff to Goodwill in various states around the country. I was only coming in to look to see if there were any tools for sale. Within five minutes of being told, the store is closing in 20 minutes, the same woman came up to me, and I had nothing in my hands, and says to me you need to go get in line now... I paused, pointed at my chest and said "are you talking to me?" She said no I'm just talking to everybody. You need to go get in line so you could check out. I thrift quite a bit and it's honestly rare to find a decent breadth of Men's thrifted clothing. This store had probably the most vast men's section I've seen at a thrift. It took up one side of the store. What I've found is every thrift store has somewhat of an identity. This one is hard to pinpoint, but I have to say, it is not the hipster domain that some secondhand stores have become. This store felt more like a place people just looking for some deals turn up to. It was actually really refreshing. That in mind, I found the selection of vintage pieces here to be slightly above average. I even found a very rare band tee (that I plan on flipping). I was shocked at how great this place was for the unique vintage I love, but I think that largely has to do with it being more of a place frequented by community and not a hotbed for those millenials and Gen Z-ers just now on the thrift wave.

Made a usual donation today and went in the store for the first time ever. Odd that I've been to a…read moremillion Goodwill stores and I'd never been in the one closest to me, where I donate multiple times per year. THE DL: Large enough store but not nearly the size of others in the greater area. Organized departments, but I didn't like that toys had a small section in back, and then most were scattered around on shelves between clothing racks. To browse toys you had to walk all the clothing aisles and kids can't even see them. Fewer junk-grade housewares than other local stores I've recently visited, but nothing spectacular. Lots of Pyrex to replace baking needs, cool vintage stainless steel pans, and other tried/true kitchen and dining brands. Relatively large book and DVD section. I found 3 DVDs for entertainment. Also got 4 kid books, and was impressed at the authors/titles, no junk books spun off of movie/TV characters, or written by Bravo idiots. I wanted a nice garden book but the only one I saw I already have. I was able to get a couple replacement plates for my exact Pfaltzgraff everyday stoneware, and saw the Dollar Tree mock-Fiesta plates I had many moons ago before the real McCoy (which broke enough times over the years I wish I'd just kept the DT version). Anyway, just illustrating the hit-or-miss-ness and nostalgic practical finds today. MY OP-ED: There were a LOT of people in there. Pickers were territorial and impolite. They staked out a section and their desperation was felt through their unwillingness to say "excuse me," or move aside to let a cart pass, or allow anyone to look in "their" current browsing section. Even the staff had to take pains to get around them. When new items were brought out, the regulars flocked to them and were almost as bad as the hags at the Lilly Pulitzer warehouse sales I attended years ago. Ha ha, speaking of Lilly, the non-picker clients were locals and I saw several wearing Lilly today. At least they're not too bougie for thrifting! (I used to wear Lilly in my 20s until a therapist in Merion once said to me, "Why do grown women choose to dress like little girls?" Mean but true.) I haven't thrifted in a while but have had two bouts of thrifting this year to teach my son not everything needs to be new, and to instruct him on pocket change/spending. In most stores there is a new phenomenon of greedy energy from the pickers who watch YouTube and think they know what to look for and hope to make a living on eBay. I've sold tons on eBay and used to make a good garage sale of it, but the claims that it can sustain you doing it full time are 100% unrealistic to me from my long and thorough experience. If you live on meager wages, perhaps, but not worth my time to garage sale there anymore. So thrifting is NOT what it used to be; it's super annoying to have everything picked over mostly by Goodwill itself, snagging high value items for Internet sales (every Goodwill store has an eBay account and I've bought from tons of them), but to then have the pickers hovering around housewares, thinking they'll catch a scrap that personnel missed in the back, really ruins the experience. The pickers were there for half my visit and my visit ran long because I truly wanted to browse every department for a decent review and they delayed that. Got out of there spending $43 with useful items but nothing I'd call an amazing deal or very cool find.

I asked a worker about the price policy and if he could price something. Apparently only a manager can price something. I was able to catch the manager at a good time and he priced the item I wanted so I was happy happy happy!!! I was told by the worker that a manager CAN price merchandise but it doesn't mean they WILL. I would definitely come back I love Good Will!! It's the BEST!!
