I haven't been back to this store in a while since it is out of the way and I'm more keen to visiting markets near my home. In terms of prices, this place is more expensive and the quality is not always the best. Some of the fruits are old and soft so I would not come here for that. What is unique about this market is that they sell hot food which no other market in Kings Highway do. I'm unsure what kind of cuisine they serve but based on some of the reviews here, it is Ukrainian. I haven't tried everything but it smells good and the few dishes I tried like the fish, was not bad. I would try more of the stuff. You have to come during the afternoon since that's the usual time they have the most hot food. Everything is by weight. I love this market. It has so much goodies! I got Chebureki, and although this doesn't have the most flavorful filling, the texture was the crispest and it was so fresh! Food was being replenished constantly. I also had the lamb soup and it was fine; just too fatty for my liking. The deli sections had some good deals too. Picked a container of deli meat for $4ish. It was sitting on top of the deli counter. The container contains about 3 varies deli meats. I really liked how I can simply picked a few different meat to sample out. I really can't wait to give this place another try and expand my palate. read more

I have been here ... This is not a regular market for me. Once in a while when I am on Kings Highway and some what pressured to get some food and get home, I go in here. Last week I went in and got a few different cheeses, 1/2 lb each sliced at the deli counter. And then 1/4 lb of Gruyere Cheese. The 1/2 lbs ordered were priced OK, a buck more than where I usually buy my cheeses, but th Greyere was priced at $ 21.99 / lb. I noticed that when I got home. At the top of the line cheeses emporiums' the max I have ever paid was $ 15.00 /lb and I usually pay $ 9.00 / lb. And while the price of this cheese was a turn off, the fact that it had white spots on the slices is an indication that the cheese is beginning to mold. Not all white spots on cheese is mold, but in this case, I carefully examined the slices and clearly this was the beginning of mold. I tossed the cheese. Tonight I was back on the Kings Highway strip and decided to try the new gourmet style fruit, veggies et al place E 16th St, KH at the train station. Don't shop at this rip off place. Just because they're newly opened and shiny, they charge double or more than what you should be paying for almost everything and they change their prices constantly raising them. Secondly, they don't allow you to bring any sort of larger bag into the store. If you have a LongChamp or a large tote, the security guy is going to bust your chops over it. Yet, they make you leave your stuff in some tight crowded spot by the entrance on the floor where it gets dirty and piled up by other people's stuff. No one is watching that area so anyone can take your stuff and leave. If you need your tote bag to pack your groceries, you have to leave the cashier and push your way through to the front to get back your bag. How is this practical? Thirdly, after you leave your stuff, or if you walk in with no bags at all, the security guard follows you around like a dog to make sure you're not stealing. I used to come to this place almost 2 times a day and they always watch me pay. Not comfortable at all. Fourthly, they jack the price up for an item if they notice you're buying out their stock. I used to purchase a drink here and bought all the bottles. Then I came back, and they bumped the price up by $2. Same thing happened with a specific bag of snacks I used to buy. Fifthly, the owners are so damn petty that they put up this stupid wall of shame as if any other customer would care or recognize these people from the grainy camera images. Grow up, bro. With the prices they charging and all the foot traffic they get it, I think it's safe to say that the owners are making more than enough money so stop spiting and insulting your community and customers. No other supermarket around here is as extra as the owners of this place. read more

Overall I like this store and I like shopping there. I also understand that owner must make profit, which means purchasing items at Ave U and selling them at the store. But it does contribute to gentrification of nearing neighborhood of Ave U and stores there. One such a store is going out of business. Going back to this store: yes, mini Whole Foods, with similar marketing approach. Prices are slightly higher than at stores right next to it. Seafood is not fresh. Recently purchased salmon was expired. Occasionally it happens with other items too. Such items are NOT REFUNDED. So it can be hit and miss. read more

this is the 5th time the staff harass me sexually again this week. especially a Latino who goes around where they receive merchandise and every time he sees me passing he comes too close (1-2 ft) and harasses me : hey beautiful, good morning gorgeous , etc.. I clearly show that I am upset . he does it in front of my kid. he waits for my husband to go to work. 2 years ago , the store owner (not manager) spoke to them and they stopped harassing me. now again they talk to each other and all of them are alert when I walk by (I live very close to the store) . this is not only hurting me emotionally and putting me in fear, it impacts my family/marriage. the current store owner (Latino) seems not to care and allow this type of behavior. how long can I keep getting targeted by these people? my husband noticed how they all talk to each other when we walk by as a family. as if they know me (predatory attitude). On Friday 7/7/23, I came in here to do some shopping. Not long after I came in I realized the security guard was surveilling me around the store. It was such an uneasy experience because you feel singled out when there's tons of other people shopping in the space. I especially felt watched when I was around the fruit & produce section, or the salad bar section. There's an open view in that part of the store. Every time I looked up or looked back the guard was always watching me or walking close to where I was. Like seriously? We're still racially profiling people in 2023? And it's crazy to read other reviews on here with other people having similar experiences. Yeast free bread, 1st no list of ingredients, 2nd I bought it few times before, I opened it this morning it was completely raw inside. I don't have to be a baker to know it's not baked inside. I didn't get what I paid for $4. The lady in the bakery had a major attitude problem and said it supposed to be wet inside. I simply asked for another same type of bread to replace the defective one, the Store manager did not know how to handle the situation at all. Horrible customer service. Food bar has an impressive selection that's always fresh. I've done a dozen times, at all hours. The staff overseeing the area are super friendly and seem to take great pride in the quality. The bakery is wonderful. I've had many different breads and some of the sweets. I just went today and got the staff member's favorite treat - a cinnamon raisin Danish-type pastry. It was awesome. Produce is well priced for its selection, quality and the nice store experience. The dairy section also has great options. They have a home-made yogurt that's sweet and adds some variety to the usual brands. Staff are friendly and efficient. I'm happy to support their business. Plenty of space inside, which is super important during COVID. Security at front makes sure there's a steady flow and proper spacing. Food is all incredibly fresh, which is a really welcome change of pace compared to some of the other spots in the neighborhood. Wide assortment of proteins and produce, and a reasonable selection of international foods. You'll have to go elsewhere for more niche dishes but i was able to satisfy both Cantonese and a Dominican staples here. A lot of really healthy foods and snacks readily available as well. Green Forest market on Kings Highway is the place I avoid at all costs. They have great merchandise but to shop there is a nightmare when you approach the registers. There is a guy who yells at customers "Next" in a terrible loud voice every second and is so disturbing and rude, I stopped shopping there very long time ago. If somebody from this store reading this, please understand that people come to your store to shop, relax, enjoy the food , we are not farm animals to be herd up to the register as fast as possible. Lena, the bakery section manager, consistently goes above and beyond with her recommendations and any other assistance one may require. Not only is she highly knowledgeable, but she's also great with people. She'll happily guide you through the nuances of every pastry on the shelf. Her enthusiastic descriptions of the pastries will leave you craving more. Ivan and Galina at the food section are out of this world as well. I'm giving them two stars because their cashiers are friendly and because they have a good selection of vegan options. I've shopped here a couple of times, but today I was followed up and down by "the security guard," you know who I'm talking about. I understand that they're supposed to prevent theft, but it's a bit excessive. I came in with a bag from another store, grabbed a shopping cart upon entry, and he immediately started following me around the entire store. He even ran up behind me while I was PAYING!! Everything was very fresh, promptly ready, and the guests of my event were raving about everything they ate. Security guard is rude, annoying and lazy. He will chase you down if you have your own bags, he will follow in around the store if you refuse to use their unsanitary carts. Every time i go, we bump heads. Last time we argued because i refused to leave my shopping bag on the floor where people have access to it. He really stared into my soul and said "you're really going to argue with me over a bag" so i stared back into his soul and said "no are you really gonna argue with me over a bag".
