Would Hire Again. [Project Scope] Removal and reinstallation of a 22-panel PV system and replacement of footers (parts that screw into the roof) as our roof was being replaced. Green Hill came as a recommendation by my roofer. Our PV system is a Sunrun lease, requiring contractor approval. Green Hill got me the necessary paperwork [Communication] Ida was project manager and was responsive over email and text. He handled communication with my roofer as well so the solar wouldn't be off the roof any longer than needed. We received photos of the work after each visit. [Workmanship] The same guys who removed the panels handled reinstallation. They kept things clean, other than a few parts and screws left on the roof after removal and prior to the reroof. After reinstall, they washed down the panels and confirmed the system was back and running. Both visits were less than a half day each. One big caveat: we've yet to have a heavy rain, so the mounts/penetrations/sealant has yet to be tested for watertightness. read more

This one star review is merited and should be heeded by others considering adding solar because there are other options in Southern California where you will get essentially the same product for lower cost, less disruption, and FAR better service. Having spent $50K with Green Hill Solar, the experience was nothing less than shocking. The communication was horrific -- riddled with inaccuracies, split among 5 different "client facing" individuals who did not communicate with one another. Home visits and hard costs continued to increase well beyond what was originally communicated. No effort was made to outline expectations and we were met with surprise visit with loud drilling 6ft under the house, city requirements that escalated the costs, multiple unannounced days on site, moving start dates, inconsistent directives on payment for a massive bill (from "pay upon completion" to "pay invoices as they arrive") and much more. All of this *could* have been managable (although not worth it financially) but the truly shocking last straw was the way the "customer service" personnel spoke to me and to my wife who was working from home, largely via text. We saved all correspondence and offered them to ownership several times, but they never responded to outreach. We could make them available to anyone considering working with this provider. Bottom line -- at a $50K investment level for a straightforward installment, we received worse customer service than we would get a a fast-food restaurant, and escalating costs akin to a major construction project. There are plenty solar providers here in SoCal to choose from -- we strongly suggest finding a resource other than Green Hill Solar. It is a highly irresponsible, unprofessional and unreliable outfit which needs a total overhaul in pricing, protocols, training and likely staffing. read more

I strongly recommend avoiding Green Hill Solar at all costs as our experience with this company has been one of the worst experiences we've ever had with a contractor. This company is a total nightmare to deal with. They will seem slick at first assuring customers that they are professional and will do a great job for a great price even offering us a veteran's discount but then you slowly begin to learn that they don't communicate well, if at all, and will stick you with the extra costs for permits which we thought were supposed to be covered by the contract price and which can be substantial with one night's notice to come up with over $1,060 for city permit fees. I contacted Green Hill Solar in March of 2023 to have our roof replaced and have 22 Qpeak Duo L365 solar panels installed along with some minor electrical upgrades (grounding, panel move, amp upgrade) to our home which we were told were needed for the solar panels. Nearly 5 months after initially agreeing to the project they are still not completely finished, and we've not seen a penny in savings from SoCal Edison (SCE) yet though we're told that the SCE Permission To Operate (PTO) will happen any time now... We're still waiting for stucco and paint repairs to the exterior of our home where the 3 different electricians they sub-contracted botched the installation of a new electrical panel. Getting information from this company and having them actually show up and do the work you paid them to do is a chore, let me assure you. They get half of the loan payment up front and you're required to give them the other half when it's finished. I highly advise that you do not give the remaining balance due until the contractor is completely finished and they've done the final walk-through. Green Hill Solar subcontracted our roof project to a roofing company which was taking too long to agree on a project completion date so after complaining about how long it was taking to begin the project they told us they found a better roofer for us: R A A Construction Group. If you also opt to get your roof re-done with a solar company, make sure you look at the city permit and ensure it is not this company. I later looked them up on the CA state contractor license board and discovered they had multiple violations against them. They had one roofer up on our roof for nearly two weeks all by himself in triple-digit temperatures in July. The roofer initially said they would need to get a crane to come and lift our brand-new HVAC system off the roof so that they could replace underneath the HVAC. Later on I asked them about why they hadn't had the crane come with our HVAC company and they told us they didn't need to lift it and instead found that it was "good" enough to be left as is. Hmm. Not a good sign. Not unusual for roofers to work in the heat of July in CA but the roofing company owner whom I later spoke to because he came to our house said he had some personnel problems during that time of our roof repair. The one worker appears to have done a decent job but time will tell how well the roof holds up. There were debris and roofing nails left all over our property which we've been cleaning up for weeks. I even had to purchase a magnetic rake from Harbor Freight to find as many of the nails as I could. The first flat tire we get we'll be invoicing Green Hill Solar. The roofer also failed to provide a copy of the written contract before work began which is a violation of the contractor state license board #7159.D. We came back from a trip and found that the roofer left a giant hole in our roof uncovered that animals could easily get into our attic through. They used our new HVAC as a tool rack for their tools. Oh, I shouldn't forget to add that the roofers disconnected our HVAC condensation piping during the roof renovation and didn't reconnect it so when we tried to turn on our HVAC during triple-digit temperatures, condensation started leaking down into our house from the unshingled roof. I am still considering invoicing Green Hill Solar for the damage that was caused. My wife needs to have air conditioning during the summer months for her heart condition, so it wasn't just a comfort thing for our family. Green Hill Solar did offer to put us up in a hotel which was nice but we had just returned from a trip and wanted to be in our house and comfortable. Green Hill Solar has terrible customer service, something they actually admitted to me in a text message which I still have and will post if I need to. I can't even begin to tell you how many inappropriate text messages and emails I've had to exchange with these clowns to get them to do the work they promised to do. Run for the hills, but not the Green Hill Solar company. Find a better company. Learn from our experience. The contract forces arbitration, find a company that you can sue like they should be after treating customers this way. We're exploring hiring an attorney of our own to go after Green Hill Solar. read more

We just got our first electric bill. Better than expected!! It was outstanding dealing with them. Simon, Sigi and Ida are the best. As it happened, we had a real oddity happen to our installation. The expansion coefficient was too low on the rails that were used. (a one in a million deal) We were getting banging and clanging all day as the the roof heated up. Then we got the same as the roof cooled during the night time. We called and explained what was happening to Simon and he was here in a flash! This was a first for Green Hill. They contacted the manufacturers of the rails, who promptly sent a representative. He spent all day on the roof. He went back to the factory and after some calculations and tests decided that the rails needed to be thicker. Green hill solar has been a great company to work with. I first spoke with the sales man Jacob who was very patient and knowledgeable. I did some research and received quotes from other companies and green hill was the best option in my opinion. Price wise another company was comparable, however the communication with green hill felt more friendly while also being informative. My project manager Jason was very responsive with updates and information on my system and quick to answer questions. I like that they were able to text and email when I wasn't able to answer my phone. The process from signing the contract to getting permission to operate was lightening fast. I didn't believe the quote on timeline that they presented, however they delivered.
