The long enduring process was reassuring when we decided to go with NRG Power. I was shopping and talking to several solar companies (5-8) to get proposal for our home project. We started the process around May 2025. I had the opportunity to speak with different people for each stage and they were all friendly and answered all my questions. They followed up and explained each step of the way especially with permits for our city and other paperwork for the state of California. Each stage had a smooth transition due to the communication and app used to show where the stage was. For installation, all staff and subcontractor of installation was so knowledgable and helpful. They were there with each inspection and permit required through fire department, city and utility company. The process for regulations of being updated and new and the complexity of communicating and coordinating was clear. All passed and I love my solar panels, storage battery backup powerwall, all thanks to NRG Clean Power. The proposal was thorough and pricing matched to the end of the project. I think the installation process went well. But their customer service is seriously lacking. We noticed a significant decline in our production and made them aware of the situation. It's going on a month and they still haven't fixed it yet. They say someone out in two more weeks. But I'm the one paying a huge electric bill on top of the solar system payment. I wasn't supposed to have big electric bills with this huge solar system they installed. Didn't occur to me that I should be worried about the customer service afterwards. I guess they got their money so I'm not important. My system is under performing. We wash the panels frequently. Some panels in a string are not producing as much as the others and they should. They need to replace those panels or the connectors. So far all they're planning to do is send the technician back to look at the connections. In the meantime, I get two bills. Not happy with the customer disservice. And absolutely do not try to apply any pressure via email because their care specialist will absolutely eat you alive. She's mean. read more

Had issues with my solar panels not being turned on not communicating data. Jonathan provided exceptional customer service guiding me through the process. He took over an hour on the phone with me and was patient/kind in explaining how to trouble shoot the issue. After the hour the panels were back up and I was ready to view the panels from the app. He even went out of his way to monitor my system for 24 hours to ensure everything was working well and reached out the next day. My experience with NRG Clean Power was mixed. While the equipment itself seems solid, the project suffered from gaps in coordination across many of the stages in the process--sales, engineering, installation, utility submission, and customer support. In addition, a configuration error meant the system was not set up as a true whole-home installation: the monitoring app showed virtually no household energy usage, while only exterior loads (AC, ADU, pergola) registered. This resulted in months of unnecessary PG&E charges and required many hours of work on my part--including calling the battery manufacturer directly--to diagnose, document, and escalate the issue. When I initially raised these discrepancies with NRG, the customer support response reframed them as a misunderstanding on my part rather than investigating the underlying technical issue, which delayed resolution. In hindsight, I wish I had chosen a locally based installer. Most communication was handled remotely out of the Los Angeles area, with no direct access to the subcontractors performing the work in San Jose, which made coordination and accountability more difficult. To NRG's credit, once I documented the issue, shared my diagnosis, and escalated it formally, the problem was acknowledged, corrected, and reimbursed--but only after significant time and effort on my part. read more

They make appointments that never show up and never call. The customer service is terrible. They give you the never ending run around yet fail to deliver. NRG started off strong and I was convinced to go with them by the positive reviews I read. The process began hopeful and excited about solar energy, but NRG has changed that opinion. I would strongly advise avoiding this company and feel compelled to put this review out there. Each step after the initial sales consultation and contract signing has been a disappointment. Expect several phone calls, several emails - many won't get replies - sales, design, and install all had different information. Very little coincided between departments. After permitting, the process was still slow-going. They did not make me feel confident that things were happening if I didn't call and follow up. The first site visit, which gave me hope that NRG would get back on track, turned out to be a waste of time. After the site visit, previous planning went out the window at install. When the installer came, they did not work for NRG, had a different set of information and did not have the equipment that had been discussed previously. I have called and emailed management to try and get us back on track. I have been as polite and as patient as I can be. Resorting to being upset is not a place I want to be, but they have put me here. Management responded to an email apologizing for their high call volume, but did not offer any time to speak on the phone. This has left me feeling strongly that this is not a customer-forward company and should be avoided. I believe the engineer and install coordinator are doing the best they can, but are swamped or not able to help. If the staff is treated anywhere near a customer, they are probably frustrated too. Bottom line: pick a different company for a solar investment. read more

I had an issue with my solar panels that were installed by Green Day. Unfortunately, they went belly up. I contacted many companies for help, but no one really wanted to do anything because they had not installed my panels. Shelley Immken called me back and was able to help me figure out what the problem was, through my Solar Edge, even though she was in Southern California. (I'm in No. Cal.). The new part just arrived and will be installed next week. I cannot express how grateful I am for all of the time she has invested helping us out. Shelley is amazing! I am writing a review of my experience with NRG Clean Power. I will start by saying that to my dismay, I was not able to have a solar system installed at my residence. This was not NRG's fault, but primarily due to some restrictions in my neighborhood, which I will leave the details out of this. From start to finish, NRG Clean Power was a very positive experience. Everyone that I worked with was very pleasant, responsive and easy to work with. There are a number of different members of their team that reached out to do their part throughout the process. Their pricing was very fair and reasonable. My questions were always answered in a timely manner. I want to shout out to a couple members of the team: Diana: she was my primary contact throughout the process. She was very friendly, courteous and responsive; Adriana: she works in Accounts Receivable and worked with us during our (unfortunate) cancellation process. I am very bummed that we were unable to complete this process with them, but I would most certainly call them again in the future if we are in a position to have solar panels and a battery installed at my residence! read more

We had our solar system installed by NRG a few years ago, and we've been very pleased with both the performance and the noticeable reduction in our utility bills. Our representative, Antoniete Miner, was extremely knowledgeable and supportive throughout the entire process--she made everything clear and easy to understand. One of the things I really appreciate about NRG is that their office is local. Whenever I've had questions or needed assistance, it's been easy to reach out and get the help I need. No doubt they hire great installation people, but their communication and honoring their quotes has little to be desired. I will elaborate. I was given a quote, left on my voicemail. I responded the next day letting NRG know I accepted their quote. 1 week later I received a phone call telling me they wouldn't honor the quote give, and they cited the reasons as Tarif's. This was back in April 2025. I still went with NRG, albeit at a$1000.00 increase. The second reason I wouldn't recommend this company, and this for me is the final straw, after installing my solar NRG didn't let me know I needed to have an ESR release, in layman's terms this is necessary for your power company to accept your new solar system. I found out this information when they contacted me in August 2025. NEG blamed the company who upgraded my Electrical Panel. NRG INSTALLED MY SOLAR AFTER THE PANEL WAS UPGRADED. Since this company doesn't communicate with its clients I would say go with another company. read more

In the time since this review, NRG has had their most technical Customer Support rep, Daniel, get in touch. Over the course of a few days Daniel has managed to solve the problem remotely, and the system now appears to be working. (To be fair, the reason it took a few days is because we need to accumulate some data from the system after a change to evaluate the outcome, so I think he accomplished the task on the shortest possible timeline). I had worked with Daniel on the system previously, and he was also very helpful then, and incredibly knowledgeable and detailed. With that said, while I'm willing to upgrade my rating to two stars, I can't go any higher than that, because the barest facts are that the logistics and coordination were still pretty terrible, and there were a number of errors in how the system was initially configured in both hardware and software, that took months to fix, and given that there was nearly a year between the start of the job and the installation, there was plenty of time to get it right. (in their defense, half of that time was due to the county's permitting process, which is only partly their problem - had their first few submissions passed, we wouldn't have needed so many cycles to get it done, but the cycles are still 4-6 weeks.) And, once the system was installed, it still took nearly 5 months to have it working correctly. While one COULD argue that they were let down by their electrical subcontractors who did the actual install, there's still some quality control on their part. More to the point, I wouldn't have held those problems against them necessarily had the fixes been prompt and effective. I would really LIKE to give them a better review (I actually like most of the individuals I have worked with), but when I look at the sum total of this experience, and what the actual results have been, and how much in utility spend this underperformance has cost me, I just can't go higher. read more

My experience with NRG was great from start to finish. This ended up being a particularly dicey install because the county of Riverside doesn't seem to have their act together. Multiple, major delays dealing with them but NRG kept me well in the loop at all times. My installation coordinator, Edward Rodriguez, was very responsive to all my dumb questions and often sent me updates before the county's own system sent them to me, if the county bothered to send updates at all. Adriana Montes in accounts receivable also went above and beyond in guiding me through the financing process. We live in a very rural area and the installers that came out were awesome, despite how long I knew they had to travel to get here. Sabino and his team took a piece of our siding which needed to be cut out to Home Depot and color matched the paint to help camouflage the conduits. How awesome is that? I wouldn't hesitate to recommend NRG (and Sabino!) to anyone needing solar panels plus any additions (battery, like us) installed on their property. A+. read more

After a long time researching and exploring my options, a couple months back I decided to go forward with NRG to install solar and a battery in my house. In this research, I went through the too rated companies in the US and in my state. All of them offered very similar prices, but the differentiator in this case was the customer service and the technologies used. NRG's sales team (Al A) was straightforward and easy to work with, not spamming my phone or setting up endless calls and surveys. Their system design team were very quick to get back to me on my questions and shared a comprehensive document of the technology of their panels, batteries, and other components. Once I decided what would be the technology I wanted (460W panels and Tesla Powerwall 3), their finance department contacted me with multiple financing options. None of the other companies offered me the array of rates and timelines that Adriana M showed me. She went through them with me as this was my first time getting a loan like this. After all the initial setup was "OK" by the city and the loan company, I was transferred to Aracely L. She was my project manager and she coordinated the installation with the engineering team and the communication with my power company. This was one of the parts where people complained the most in other companies, but she made this stage go smoothly and with almost zero interaction with me. I didn't even have to be at home during this process and by the time I came back from my travels, the installation was completed. I recommend this company to anybody who wants to get solar. We needed to be permitted and have a solar installation designed and priced out in time for the NEM2.0, and NRG Clean Power's quote came out to be the most competitive among the nearly ten quotes we requested. They also carry top of the line solar and power products. NRG Clean Power also provided me with three different tiers of product options based on pricing. We ultimately went with the highest efficiency REC panels with Enphase microinverters for each. You can easily tell the folks at NRG Clean Power are passionate about their work. Everyone I spoke to was extremely knowledgeable in all facets of solar power, including technical specifications, software, roofing, to the regulatory process, I felt reassured every step of the way. Our project manager, Edward Rodriguez, was extremely responsive, accommodating, and professional. This courteousness extends to every single NRG team member I worked with. Not just for solar, working with Edward and the NRG team was definitely the smoothest contracting experience we have had so far into our home ownership experience. We even ran into multiple personal hiccups, but the NRG team was patient, and always willing to work around our needs and schedules, while never pushing. As with most other solar companies, the sales team is amazing at explaining everything in hopes of getting your business. However, once I signed the contract, getting responses from NRG's sales team was very hit or miss. I had specifically ordered Panasonic all-black solar panels (EVPV370K) but instead, they delivered the black panels with white outlines (EVPV370). Contacting my original sales advisor was useless as there was no response. At this point, I decided to just move forward with it to not delay the installation since they were already bombarded with install requests to meet the NEM2.0 deadline. From there, everything was smooth sailing with the Project Manager, Rick, and the Permitting contact, Bill. No issues with getting my project correctly installed under NEM2.0 in California, which is a huge relief. The roof and solar contractors they hired were very professional and speedy. After the fact, speaking with their communications contact, Adrianna, was amazing. I had referred a few other friends to NRG and she made sure I was credited for it. read more

Update to my review as my system is now fully installed. Per my request, I recieved a new Installation/Project Coodinator and was assigned Matt Lamel. He was courteous, understanding, pro-active, responsive, accountable, effective communicator and everything you would want in a Project Coodinator. He took care of me and kept me up to date as the project progressed. There were still a few hiccups as can be expected but there were resolved quickly and without much headache thanks to him. Matt also pushed my paperwork to operate my system at the tail end of my project a little early so I my system could get running once everything was complete. It was really perfect timing. NRG asked me to update my review and Im only do so because of the exceptional service provided by Matt. As for their subcontractor, I personally supervised the work to ensure that it got done properly. Overall, I'm giving the company 3 stars. If this review was for Matt only, I would give 5 stars. NRG needs to do themselves a favor and hire more people like him. read more
