    Hot food menu
    Will S.

This place is tucked away in a strip mall at 84th and F streets. I'd read other yelper reviews and wanted to try some of their made-to-order food. So I go in and the store is actually pretty tiny, but stocked with all kinds of Middle Eastern goods. A lot of canned and jarred food with quite a bit of frozen/refrigerated offerings thrown in for good measure. I didn't see a hot case or a kitchen, so I had to ask the man working there (I assume he's the owner) if they had hot food. He said yes and pointed to a laminated menu taped to the front counter. Now we're in business! I ordered a shourma beef ($3.50) and a falafel ($3) and the man disappeared in the back for about 5 minutes. So I browsed a bit, grabbed a couple cans of Vimto and a candy bar -- this needs to be a complete meal, right? Once he returned to ring me up, he mentioned to check out his Facebook page for weekly updates on their stock, which changes fairly often from what I gathered. Also, if you don't want to wait on your food order, he suggested calling ahead. Cool fava beans. So when I got home and dived into my food I was happy to find out that he makes a mean shourma beef. It's subtly spiced and tasty processed beef, some veggies and sauce wrapped in homemade flat bread. The falafel was along the same lines, just swap the beef for -- you guessed it -- falafel balls. Humble and delicious -- the best kind of food out there, in my opinion. I'll definitely back soon. And, like Sarah G said in her review, I'm dying to try their pizza!

I decided to go here after reading Will, Sarah and Matt's reviews of this place, not knowing that it has been here for 4 years, and I was not disappointed. I was in here for a few minutes before a gentleman appeared from the back. At first pretty introverted, Bassim soon warmed up to telling me about his store. Originally from Jordan, he spent a few years in Saudi Arabia, before trying to emigrate out of the Middle East. 20 years ago the US accepted him in Florida, and after 6 months gave him a brochure of a land full of lambs, goats and grasslands, and soon came to Omaha. He has loved it ever since, and bought this store from a friend 4 years ago after working at various places throughout town. I ordered a Beef Shourma sandwich and a Spinach and Cheese pie, both of which were excellent, seasoned like I would expect, cooked in the back of the store. I will make a note to try out their pizza next time!

Menu as of 12/1/2012. Everything I have had so far is delicious.

The term "hidden gem" gets used a alot but it truly applies here. This is a small grocery store tucked in a strip mall but they are turning out some awesome food.

As of 2/24/17 the menu. All sandwiches and pies are $4.99.

I would like to complement your associate at 50th & Center St. I know her only be the name "Madi"…read more I have seen her at the store but this was the first time she was my shopper. I want someone to know that she is super and excellent in customer service. She has always been willing to help me any way she can and I feel she is a valuable associate for Family Fare. She would probably say that she was only doing her job. May be true, but she does it in an outstanding manner. I cannot complement her enough to let her know how much I appreciate her attention to detail and her outstanding customer service.

What a difference it makes to be able to glide through the aisles without people pushing and shoving past you. Second, it's clean. The carts are nice (no rickety wheels here) and there are a good amount of smaller ones that come in handy for those quick trips. Plus, they don't clog up the aisles either. Finally, I LOVE the self check lanes. They aren't all clustered together and there are two sizes. The small ones for those in and out stops and my personal favorite, the larger ones with a belt length like a regular check out lane. If you're a crazy organized bagger like me, you will greatly appreciate these lanes. My husband probably does too because our self bagging process has improved immensely since discovering this, which means I'm not nagging him to bag better or get out of my way. Definitely make sure you have the customer card because those discounts do add up - I've had as much as $14 of savings in one trip. You also earn cents off the gallon at Quik Trip. Another reviewer mentioned the Direct Your Dollars program which I hadn't investigated yet, but I will now. I'd say you should shop here but I don't want to it become crowded like all the other stores. Maybe I shouldn't have written this review. Hmmm.

I stopped by today in particular to get apples because I forgot to grab them during my normal grocery run and I happened to be nearby. The first thing I noticed was the exterior building. It doesn't look like it's been updated or that well kept up since it was constructed. It looks like the building has aged, and that big sign on a post looks dated as well. The interior was not dirty, but also looked dated and could definitely use a refresh. Businesses in the Regency area tend to look fancier and better well kept up, so I'd like to see this Whole Foods get a little TLC. I just feel like the vibe is off a little from what I would expect. I also expected to see a wider variety of apples. I guess to me Whole Foods means lots of organic and natural items as well as a broader selection than what you might find at conventional grocery store like Hy-Vee. But that really wasn't the case. Other than having lots of organic options, the specific types of apples weren't that unique or exciting. When it came time to check out, there was not a single open register with a human being. They only had self check out open, which is not my immediate preference.

It had so many different places, deli, flowers, huge produce section, and eating area. It was all a bit overwhelming to me. I got a disoriented, like I was roaming Costco or Sam's Club. The food on the salad bar and deli area was the same as what I get in Honolulu though. And I'm not sure if that is good or bad. It's nice to have the familiar dishes I buy at home, but its always nice to try local food from the area.
