This is not the first restaurant I visited with the name Amsterdam falafel, which is kind of an idiom. So this place had an impression in my mind to live up to. However, I came seeking something that was both fresh and local as well as ethnically and culturally distinctive, and it was a winner. The menu is marked for vegan and gluten-free concerns. Falafel is available as a platter, a wrap, or a salad. I opted for a salad. I appreciated the toppings, but I also appreciated the ability to customize. I opted to stick with everything (since they don't do cucumbers like a lot of places) and found the chickpea and carrot salad and red cabbage to contribute a significant texture and flavor variety. There were only two falafel balls, albeit large ones, but the overall result made for a nice light meal. I made it a bit heavier of course by ordering fries, which were made freshly and tossed in curry-flavored spice that delivered a mouthwatering aroma that elevated the fries themselves. A little slotted stick was given as a utensil to pick up the fries, which I started by using and then stopped when the fries cooled down. Overall, I could not ask for much more in a falafel place. Do not go here and think you are having Döner like you would get in Germany. I was hopeful, but it is not the same. That being said, I still really enjoyed my meal. There's nothing Dutch about this place--I know because I'm Dutch and grew up in the Netherlands. I was so disappointed. Even the doners, which aren't Dutch but Middle Eastern, felt out of place. We don't typically serve much hummus unless you're at a Middle Eastern restaurant. Overall, the place gives off more of a Middle Eastern cuisine vibe. The service, however, was great. read more

This is a great little falafel shop in Dundee. Food is made fresh and is always really tasty. Lots of great colors and textures going on. The menu is not overly large, but I really like that the meals can be made as sandwiches, salads, or a hummus plate. Curry fries, obviously, are amazing. The soup ...yum. It's all so good and vibrant. It feels really healthy (well except the fries, again, obviously). The shop is really small so it might be hard to get a seat inside; there is also some seating outside. Since my last review here, they have added a new menu item! You already know I'm all about the spicy falafel sandwich and feta fries, so imagine my pleasant surprise when the new menu item was something called Super Fry, which is basically the combination of the two minus the bread. I KNEW I had to try it. I called about 20 minutes ahead of pickup for a weekday lunch and they had it ready right on time! While I was picking up, I also noticed they were selling a small side of ghost pepper hot sauce for a couple bucks, so I tried that as well. The super fry was perfect - it was exactly what I wanted! It was a little too much food for lunch, but I ate it all anyway because it was so good. The ghost pepper hot sauce was very spicy, but with great flavor. It was a little on the expensive side, but I only used about a third of it for this meal and saved the rest to use for other meals that week. As always, AFK never misses for me! read more

Amsterdam has my favorite falafel in Omaha and the curry fries are just a great bonus. I always opt for the spicy falafel bowl with garlic sauce and spicy green sauce. The spicy green sauce is my favorite but all their sauces are great and add to the already complex flavor profile. As a vegetarian, I also love how much plant based protein is packed in. First time here & it hit the spot for craving. We tried the doner kabob plate that came with a generous serving of meat, tabouli, pickled red cabbage, and carrot chickpea salad. I got the curry vinegrette for my sauce and it was excellent. All the salads were delicious & loved that the carrot chickpea had a strong curry taste. The meat was excellently seasoned and the hummus was smooth. We also got the super fry with doner kabob. It came with a generous amount of curry seasoned fries & meat. They put all the salads on the side for us (one of us is a picky eater) & it was nice tasting 4 more sauces. Both employees were very friendly and we appreciated the outdoor seating. I didn't like this place, I'm sorry because it seems like they have very good reviews but there was almost no redeeming qualities for me to ever want to return. I tried a falafel plate and that was by far the best thing I had, but everything came cold. It was two falafel and a little tiny bit of hummus. The beef kebab sandwich was completely filled with pickled cabbage which overwhelmed the entire sandwich. It was honestly gross to the point I picked out the meat and threw the rest out. A complete waste of money. I also got a combo and they completely forgot my drink. So overall, very little food, all came cold, overwhelmed with the nasty taste of pickled cabbage, and forgot my drink. I threw my money and this food in the trash. The Amsterdam in the mall is good, but you can't beat the ambiance and vibe of the original hole-in-the-wall location. My go-to order is the falafel sandwich with herb and garlic sauce, add hummus, and a side of curry fries. It's like getting a sandwich and salad in one. My husband loves the kabob meat, and we both agreed the we left feeling full but not disgustingly bloated.
