We chose Green Mill for our after work get together Christmas party. The first waitress we had was fine although a smile would have been nice. Must have been shift change never informed we would have a new waitress. We had a group of 7 ladies the next waitress came on and was training a new employee. Our new waitress made a comment to my coworker "apparently you have had enough to drink" very rude. Never had such a terrible experience at a restaurant. Never came to check if we needed refills and never came back to ask if we needed anything. We were going to buy a gift certificate for our Doctors but decided against it! We ordered a personal size pizza for pick up and it was burnt when we showed up to pick it up at the restaurant. It was also very thin and we did not order thin pizza. My husband had to drive back to the restaurant with the pizza and ask for a different one. This isn't the first time they have burnt our pizza. Never asked if my sister wanted another drink. Spinach dip and bread were very good. We ordered a deep dish pizza and a calzone. Got a hand tossed pizza. Was told the kitchen made the wrong one and if we wanted to them to make another one. Asked to talk to a manager. No one came. Check was dropped. Received $5.75 off. So we arrived 30 minutes before opening on Father's Day (with my handicapped father). We were in assured we did not need to be on a list to be seated. So we waited a half an hour, and then they proceeded to seat everyone that came in, except us, because even though there were enough seats, they had reservations! Wow! Management is unwilling to half a sandwich. Lunch portions are ridiculous. Also, for many of the sandwiches you'll need some kind of advanced degree to be able to eat them with as messy as they are. They really need to get rid of the ciabatta bun since it falls apart. A select few servers are good but unfortunately most seem to be stuck in low gear. read more

What a great find for lunch! Looks like it was recently remodeled- really nice! My husband commented that the beer was chilled at a perfect 36 degrees. First and last time here. The side of corn was overdone and flavorless. They have a story about finding the walleye on a trip to Canada -- they should give it back to the Canucks for some proper seasoning. Bland? Nah, that would imply at least some taste. But it's the little things that drive this to the bottom -- the waitress that couldn't remember the two (yes, two) soups of the day, the table that you had to plant your feet against to keep it from rocking, and the fruit side (yep, your grand choice of sides was fries or fruit) that was rock hard and unripened. Oh, and did I mention the customer washing his hair in the bathroom? Granted, that's not the restaurant's fault, but just a foreshadowing of the delightful ambiance you can expect from the Green Mill. Do yourself a favor and dine at the nearby Casey's ... at least there you can get a tankful of gas to go along with your meal. I have eaten at several Green Mills. If you are willing to wait then definitely get the deep dish pizza, otherwise the thin crust is good too. As for this location, it is pretty much the only place to go if you are staying at one of the four surrounding hotels. The service is pretty good. read more

Better than I expected. Given that this town is fairly far out in Minnesota (which is pretty much the middle of nowhere for this East Coast boy) I freely admit to having fairly low expectations. They also had the the bonus of being open on Christmas day. The last 3 times I ordered food from the Green Mill it didn't taste bad, but was nothing like described on the menu. Don't expect an item to taste the same twice. Once, my husband had a special order for the gyro (he didn't want the onions in the sauce) and they basically gave him a fajita in a pita and called it good. My chicken was burned and the waitress noted that it was, but wouldn't take it back to the kitchen! That was the worst of my experiences. I had the Sunday brunch buffet and it was okay at best. I understand underseasoning on buffets, but, the pasta was tasteless. It obviously hadn't been cooked in seasoned water, and it doesn't matter how good a sauce is, if the pasta is tasteless it affects the whole dish.
