I had an extremely upsetting and unacceptable experience at The Green Parrot that needs serious attention.
I walked into the bar with my medically trained service animal and was immediately told by the bartender that I was not allowed to have a dog inside. When I calmly tried to explain that she is a service animal and protected under ADA law, he didn't just misunderstand--he was blatantly dismissive, disrespectful, and completely unprofessional. He threw his hands up, said "whatever," and walked away from me mid-conversation.
His behavior was honestly deplorable. I was made to feel unwelcome, embarrassed, and completely dismissed for simply entering the establishment with a legitimate medical service animal. No one should ever be treated that way.
After I told my husband what happened, he went back to speak with the bartender to address the situation. Instead of taking accountability, the bartender escalated things--he became aggressive, rude, and began cursing at my husband. He doubled down on his stance, saying it was "still a dog in a bar" and bringing up allergies, completely ignoring the legal protections surrounding service animals. His behavior was hostile and entirely unacceptable.
He then told my husband to speak with the owner. Thankfully, the owner handled the situation much more appropriately--he listened, was respectful, and seemed to understand the seriousness of what had occurred. My husband explained that employees need to be properly educated on ADA laws regarding service animals, as denying access can lead to serious legal consequences.
I truly hope this was due to a lack of training and not reflective of the business as a whole. However, the bartender's behavior was inexcusable and needs to be addressed immediately. No one should feel excluded or disrespected the way I was simply for walking through the door. read more
